    Cyber Storm Shopping

Truth is that there is only so much you can stare out the widow watching the wind and rain. The next logical entertainment outlet is surfing the web. In order to provide a bit of entertainment we scouted the web for some of the best online sales or deals and here is what we found:

    Target: Kirna Zibete

The almost-chic box store launched their collaboration with Soho chic boutique Kirna Zibete on September 9. The merchandise is now marked down anywhere from 30% to 50% off. We highly endorse this huge lip ring for $10.50 from $15 and the lips envelope clutch for $21 from $30. The clothing is a bit more hit or miss. The style is great but that cheap polyester makes our skin crawl.

    TheOutnet.com

Net-a-Porte’s discount site, TheOutnet can be better than a trip to Woodbury Common. The site is filled with unbelievable past season designer merchandise. Doesn’t everyone need a pair of combat heels? Well Acne thinks so and for 65% off these will do the trick ($270from $770. This simple print Marni dress is stylish, simple, yet affordable at $370 from $745. Then of course, you’re going to need to snag these Miu Miu glitter high-tops for $198 from $500. You can also go the other way and grab these Reed Krakoff shark leather sandals for $255 from $850 or suede jacket for $750 from $2500.

    Yoox.com

Although Yoox carries almost every brand imaginable you have to be careful that you’re not paying more than you should. On some occasions we have found products on the site more expensive than retail. Today we browsed closely and found this black-and-white Lanvin print dress for $2000 from $2500 or Proenza Schouler jacket spice up simple jeans ($660 from $825). Our favorite feature of Yoox is that you can place an item in your “dream box” and the site will alert you when the product is discounted. We’ve snagged some amazing deals this way.

    Overstock.com

Sometimes you can’t dismiss the obvious. Overstock has tucked away some very interesting designer surprises. To sort through the huge assortment of merchandise on the site we usually use the sort feature to pull up the most expensive items. (Really, are you surprised?!) Today, we found a blue Chloe Sally bag for $1350. The medium sized bag is $1900 at Saks. Then a Stella McCartney bag from last season is $1200.

    It-it: Balenciaga Moto Jacket

It’s no news that this season’s hottest item is a motorcycle jacket. Unlike most fashion items, a good moto jacket never goes out of style. Lets rephrase that, motorcycle jackets do go in and out of style but a good one looks good in any decade.

If you don’t have a great motorcycle jacket from the early 2000s or a vintage one from your aunt or mother, then you’re going to want to pick the perfect version that will look great on you and the next generation of it-girls. We recently scoured all the department stores and local boutiques in order to find the perfect leather biker jacket. We tried $8000 Alaia jackets that felt as soft as melting lipstick and a $6000 McQueen version that had the perfect combination of edge and high fashion. There are also the less expensive motos made of imitation leather but we are looking for the jacket of a lifetime.

There is no doubt that our absolute favorite is the Balenciaga Moto ($2650). The sleeves are perfect. The fit is amazing. The leather is high quality but still has a twist of rugged. The best part is that that they come in a rainbow of colors. This season the designer focused on a mustard version and a heather grey, in addition to basic black. If you search pre-owned versions, which seem to run between $800 and $2200 on eBay, you will find a dazzling variety that includes cobalt blue and ultra violet.

If the Balenciaga jacket isn’t quite your style, our close runner up is a Sandro version in basic black ($825). Sandro has a store right here on Madison and a boutique within Bloomingdales that is currently stocked with a great cramberry color.

You truly can’t go wrong with either of these jackets and we are sure that your children or nieces will thank you in decades to come.

    Manolo & Louboutin Sample Sales

When election day comes around in about two weeks keen shoppers are going to have to choose a lot more than who they want to run this nation. Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin are hosting overlapping sample sales and some people will have to choose.

A Manolo Blahnik spokesperson confirms that their bi-annual Worwick hotel sample sale will begin Tuesday, November 6th and run through, Wednesday, November 7th. We are told that the entire first day will be invitation only and then the sale will open to the public for the full day on Wednesday. Invitations have not yet been mailed but you will be alerted if you are a day one shopper very soon. Andre Leon Tally has yet not confirmed that he will be there but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

The Christian Louboutin showroom will be hosting their bi-annual sale starting on Monday, November 5th and extending through the weekend. Getting access to this sale is much more difficult since the sale is held in the designer’s showroom. The first few days are usually reserved for red-carpet stars while the final days are open to invited guests, which normally include press, vendors and employee friends.

So what can you expect from either sale? At the past Manolo sale, the bulk of the inventory was size 7 and slimmest selection was size 8 through 9.5. Basic shoes started at $100 and prices went up to $500 for high exotic boots. You can read all the details from the sale last season, here.

Over at Christian Louboutin, during the press days the shoe selection is best for ladies size 36.5 and below and 40 and up. (We are sure starlets of all sizes score big at the beginning of the sale.) Prices for this sale start at $100 although we don’t usually have luck finding shoes in that price point. Last season, even some of the wedges were $225 and most of the desirable styles were $350 and above. Boots were $500 and up, while the exotic skin styles are priced upon request. You can see past coverage here.

So where will your wallet do it’s voting during the sample sale wars of fall 2012?

Which sample sale do you vote for?

    Zadig & Voltaire 80% Off

Zadig & Voltaire likely fits best in the contemporary-grunge section of your closet. It’s cool. It’s young. It’s on Madison. And yes, it’s on sale.

The Zadig & Voltaire sale starts Tuesday at the 260 Sample Sale space. This evening we took our spy gear and scoped out the situation. Shoppers will find an assortment of shoes, bags, belts, scarves and clothing for men, women and children ranging from 60% to 80% off.

If you’re looking for leather jackets or pants you are going to want to get to the sale early. There isn’t a lot of inventory and you can bet leather jackets priced at $300 and leather pants at $200 will be the first to run out. Silk pajama tops for $150 from $450 are also poised to be a big hit. A tattered leather jacket, which was clearly a return from Macy’s was priced at $350 from over $1000. Blazers with bedazzles skulls on the back are $190 from $530.

You’re in luck if you’re looking for items from last year’s sequin collection. There are sequin dresses ($200), tops ($150) and tanks ($150). There’s obviously also lots of brand classic tees and tops for $60 and sweaters, which range in price from $90 to $120.

Moving on to shoes, there are a few styles of combat boots ($150) and an eye catching sparkle style wedge ($100). On the bags table, shoppers flocked to the classic style leather tote, which was priced at $130 from $380. Clutches are $100 and cool colored bowling bags are $170. The sale also includes a great range of hats, including straw styles for $30 and leather ones for $70. Scarves are priced between $30 and $50.

If you’re a brand fan, this is a sale you won’t want to miss. Those who find the contemporary-grunge outside of the comfort zone may find more satisfaction shopping elsewhere. You can browse though a full catalogue of sale pictures on my Flickr account here.

DSW Wall of Fame: From Alaia to Zanotti

    By ManhattanMataHari

It’s always fun to shop at a discount store and find current season merchandise for less money than a department store. While browsing DSW we found this season’s Balenciaga booties and Chelseas priced from $539 to $649 (normally $800 to $1100).

Upon further investigation, we found Jimmy Choo flats for $399 to $499 (normally $425 to $500) and elegant silk Manolo Blahnik pumps for$499 to $599. In addition, we found a selection of Fendi, Prada Sport, Emilio Pucci, and Sergio Rossi shoes.

If you look closely, in the same section, you will find Miu Miu, Giuseppe Zanotti and Ralph Lauren Collection discounted 50% off. We were a bit disappointed  to see loads of the same past season Gucci pumps and flats for $230 to $260. We recall seeing the same styles on clearance racks last season.

Heading over to those famous clearance racks, we found most designer footwear to be marked down only 30%. With some searching we found some nice Sergio Rossi suede boots, Gucci wedges and Ralph Lauren Collection oxfords.

Although you won’t find the Balenciagas and Manolos online, DSW.com is stocked with a huge amount of designer shoes, including Alaia, YSL and Valentino. In the clearance tab of the site, we spotted loads of Sergio Rossi boots for $250 to $450, Giuseppe Zanottis for $200 to $450. Even our favorite Zanotti crystal ballet flats were $450 from a retail price of $930. While the online prices tend to be a bit higher than in-store, there’s never the problem finding a missing shoe in a pile of mess.

Regardless of where you shop, be on the lookout for DSW’s frequent coupons. At the very least, you should be able to score an extra $50 off.

    Inside the YSL Sample Sale

    Update: Wednesday 9:45am
We were just told that the sale has received a new shipment of merchandise and sale hours have been extended to 9pm on Wednesday and 6pm on Thursday.

Chances are that if you’re headed to the YSL sample sale that you’ll be reading this while standing on a very, very, very long line. Today we went to the VIP preview and can definitively tell you that this sale lives up to the hype.

Before we get to the details we are going to give you a bit of advice. If you don’t like waiting on long lines we suggest going to the sale after 3pm. Generally, this is the slowest time of day at a sample sale. You may not get first-round draft material but there’s still lots of items to help you empty your wallet.

Now that we have those details out of the way, we can continue onto selections and pricing. First, there are bags. Lots of bags — or enough bags to get through tomorrow. There are Roadys ($600), postcard patent totes ($400), YSL canvas totes ($300), duffels/weekenders ($400), Cabases ($800), clutches for $200 and wallets for $100.

Now, shoes. Yes, there are Tributes ($350) but there aren’t a lot and the colors are not very desirable. If you’re looking for sandals you’ve come to the right place. There is a great assortment of colors and hights. If you’re into Palai bow pumps, you can expect to score big. All sandals and boots are priced at $350. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of boots. When we last checked there were exactly three pairs. Pricing is as follows: Trib 2 $350, sandals $350, boots $350 and all other shoes $200. Men’s shoes are all $200.

The best deals, as always, was in the clothing section. Much of the assortment is from fall 2011. You can browse much of the selection from that collection right here. Prices are as follows:

    Coats: $600
    Jackets: $300
    Dresses: $300
    Pants: $150
    Skirts: $100
    Blouses/Tops: $100

As in past years, the sale also includes lots of jewelry, sunglasses, belts and other accessories. Most shoppers would be wise to grab a few heavy cocktail rings, which are priced at $50. They are great gifts for girlfriends and cooler relatives. More specialized jewelry is priced individually and runs in the $200-$300 range. Among other accessories you will find a variety of sunglasses for $75, scarves for $100, belts for $50 and umbrellas for $100.

Overall, this sale is one that is worth shopping but you can avoid a lot of hassle by going to the YSL outlet at Woodbury. The prices may not always be as good but there’s never a wait to get in.

    Montblanc Sample Sale

Montblanc’s “private” friends and family sale is always a great place to pick up sophisticated gifts without breaking the bank. This sale is usually a reader favorite. You can print out the below image for private sale entré. (We doubt it’s necessary, but why not go prepared?)

This season, the sale has made a venue change and prices may not be as discounted as its been in the past. During previous sales we found $600 fountain pens selling for $150, watches for $500 from $1500 and $1,000 leather bags marked down to $250.

The sale is only two days, starting Monday. Usually lots of loyal fans turn out for the is discount opportunity, which can translate to long lines. This year, we expect the crowed control to be a lot better now that the sale has moved to a professional sample sale location. (Some times you have to give a little to get a little– higher prices/ shorter lines.)

Those planning to majorly stock up should be warned that there there is a maximum of five pieces for each shopper. That should be more than enough for shoppers like you and me but enough limits to keep the reselling hoarders at bay.

Those looking for some more feminine gift items should mark their calanders for the Ippolita sample sale, which is scheduled to start Saturday, October 27nd.
