    ShopBop 70% Off Sale

ShopBop has started their clearance sale where lots of designer clouting, shoes and accessories are discounted 70% off. Since all sales are final it is best if you shop for items that you’ve tried or seen before.

Rodarte fans will be happily surprised by this final markdown. Look at this studded leather jacket that’s $1315 from $4300, a tie-dyed chevron pattern dress that’s $310 from $1035 and a two-tier woven and silk skirt that’s $517 from $1725. We are also huge fans of these Maison Martin Margiela snakeskin boots that are about $600 from $2000 and these Alexis Bittar arrow drop earrings are $58 from almost $200.

It’s really hard to pass up leather stretch pants from DVF that are now just $300 from $1000 and while you’re settling on those leather pants you’ll have to go for the Yigal Azrouel leather bustier for $237 from almost $800.

Although the 70% off section offers the best discounts, it’s usually a good idea to explore the other markdown sections. Those, at least, offer items that are returnable.

Beware of Marni Sample Sale Hype

Today was the first day of the first-ever Marni sample sale. Since there hasn’t been a major sample sale, we weren’t surprised with the amount of buzz that surrounded this event. Most blogs have reported that the prices are pretty good and we agree. It’s the selection of inventory that disappointed our Marni experts.

Although the space is full with Marni merchandise, much of the inventory is “from year one,” our resident Marni expert reported. Most of the dresses are priced at just $195 but many of them are badly damaged and oddly shaped. (Oddly shaped beyond the standard deviation of Marni’s unusual silhouette.)

One of the better items she found was a canvas coat, trimmed with fur. The price on this one-off was $1135. A three-quarter sleeve jacket for $355 was a much better deal, but again, there was only one. The sale has lots of pants and skirts along with shoes and lingerie–all of which, were not too popular with fans of the brand. “Who needs a plain sweater for $75 even if it is from Marni?” our expert questions.

The sale includes a very small collection of children’s clothing (hot pink silk blouse $45, beige coat $80, cashmere sweater $75) and a bit more for men. We would skip the sale if you’re focused on shopping for either category. Addition pictures from the sale are after the jump. Take note, most people who shopped, left empty handed or with very little loot. That’s usually a pretty telling sign.

Inside: Day 1 of the Manolo Sale

For most people, the post-Super Bowl snowstorm was another weather disruption as part of a horrible New York winter. For those stranded in New York, flight cancellations just meant the perfect opportunity to shop Manolo Blahnik’s final markdown.

Today was the first day of the bi-annual sale. Prices, as expected, run from $195 to about $325. The selection compared to past seasons, however, is much smaller. Usually the sale is comprised of almost everything from outgoing season. This time around, the sale merchandise is void of any basic colors and the normal classics. For instance, a classic boot in maroon is marked down but the black version is still full price. This normally is not the case and was a major disappointment to Manolo sale veterans.

Despite the demise of discount classics, there are still lots of great style shoes from which to shop. There is a full assortment of BB style shoes for $225. there’s black and white, green, purple, teal and various textures. There is also an assortment of Hangisi jeweled pumps but they are also in non-classic colors. There is a full color assortment of Srilasca style shoes, which is a low heeled scalloped pump. There are a few styles of smoking slippers and Mary Janes. As usual, there is an assortment of exotic skin shoes but they are still very expensive at 50% off. (Best to buy exotics at the sample sale.)

Note that despite the snow, the boutique was quite crowded. Sizes were beginning to go quickly. This is one of those sales that you should not wait to attend. That being said, this isn’t our favorite Manolo sale and we wouldn’t suggest going too far out of your way to shop. Take note, the store does close from 2pm to 3pm. Lights go out and shoppers must wait for the store to be reorganized before entering.

Get Your Manolos for 75% Off

We have made it through two markdowns at Manolo Blahnik and the final price cut is finally here. Starting Monday, Manolo will begin their final markdown of the season. This four day sale is the perfect opportunity to stock up on classic and ornate shoes from the winter collection at up to 75% off.

This year, we are told that the saving are “not to be believed!” Styles are from the exclusive boutique collection and include some alligator. Prices are always marked by sticker dots, which usually range from $195 for a red dot up to $375 for a green dot. Most shoes and low boots– even highly ornate styles– are priced at $225. Last year, Lisa pumps were a budget friendly $225 and high boots were $325.

The store can get crowded but at least there isn’t usually a long line to get in. The sale will only run for four days and styles and sizes run low quickly. If you’re looking for a great deal we suggest you switch out of your heels and take a run over to the boutique asap.
