    Weekend Shopping: Obsessions & Impulses

DSW continues to drop assorted past season Gucci shoes for 40% to 60% off. If you’ve been following along, you’ll notice that a new selection and restocks happen every morning. You might have also noticed that prices have inched up. When we first reported about the sale Jordaan loafers were $349 and now they are priced at $499.
To sweeten the deal, DSW just started offering a promo code that will afford you an extra 5% off the entire Gucci selection. Just register your email address as an insider to engage the additional savings at checkout.

As I scrolled through Vogue.com looking for inspiring fashion week pictures, I started to wonder; Can fashion week really exist if there aren’t any selfies? Beyond Corona, this year was just too heavy to endure the look-at-me-sitting-front-row brag. Could anyone really stomach the ‘I think you’re sitting in my seat’ or the ‘I don’t see your name on the list‘ confrontation?

As much as I love fashion and fashion shows, I must say, good riddance! I’m very happy to not know what Bella Hadid ate backstage or Nikki McGuire’s fashion week survival tips. It was never very interesting and this year proves how little it’s always mattered.
The online venue was a disaster for most designers looking to attract eyeballs and create buzz. As I predicted, however, the most thoughtful and creative minds in fashion emerged as delicate leaders.  The debut of the Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons duo collection might not have been earth-shattering but I did love that they took to the stage for a public conversation.
The most creative fashion week presentation was by Jeremy Scott for Moschino. The designer staged a full puppet show that was filled with imagination. The concept celebrated the whimsy that has always been part of the Moschino DNA. Marionettes of famous models showcased 40 couture-level looks. The front row was also reenacted by scaled-down futures representing the likeness of fashion’s most known figures such as Anna Wintour and Edward Enninful.
Let’s step off off the runway conveyor belt and move on to shopping sales.  Friday night, Nordstrom started a private designer markdown where reductions are up to 70% off. You must use this link to view the discounts. Some of the highlights include Roger Vivier shoes with a classic buckle for $262 from $875 and here is a Prada floral print pump for $225 from $750. Sizes are limited for all styles.
Moda Operandi started another round of markdowns. This Brandon Maxwell dress worn by Jill Biden at to the DNC is reduced to $658 from $1200, Roxanne Assouline bracelets are $72 from $240,  and a Prada scarf is $160 from $400.
Macy’s is hosting a beauty promotion with discounts of 15% off.  Dior beauty and  Gucci fragrances are included. It might be worth checking out if you are starting to scoop at the bottom of your favorite moisturizer.
Looking back on the week, Net-A-Porter started an early Fall shoe promotion, where many styles are discounted 15% off with the code SHOPSTYLE15. Some of the most tempting purchases include the great assortment of Golden Goose sneakers I also love these Fendi boots that come to $892 from $1050, Nicholas Kirkwood boots with a pearl heel are $833 from $980. You can click here to see what brands are excluded and to see my other finds.

    Giglio Discounts on Fall Collections

It’s always fun to explore a distant store’s fashion online and then have the opportunity to physically visit. The experience is usually a lot different than you imagine but there are always nice surprises.

Giglio, has stores in Milano and Palermo and is deliciously Italian. The boutique carries local contemporary brands like Pinko and Twin Set in addition to all the luxury brands you would expect to find in an upscale multi-brand store.

To encourage international exploration through the ease of your fingertips Giglio is offering 15% off Fall merchandise with the code MID15. The discount isn’t huge but the bright side is that you can find a lot of items that are difficult to source or are already sold out at other retailers.

Over this way, we found a Bottega Veneta Airpod case that comes to $382 from $450 and this is the first time we spotted a Bottega Veneta Cassette belt bag. It rings out at $1020 from $1200. Here is a mini woven Jodie for $1462 from $1720.

This Prada Spectrum bag is new this season and this new little Prada Matinee has a retail price less than it would be in the US and comes to $1800 from $2450. The same goes for these Golden Goose sneakers that come to just $213 from over $500 usually. The code doesn’t work for Gucci but if you’re looking for Lamé Princetown slides, they have them here.

All shipping is free for purchases over $150 and all duties are already included in the price shown. That means there is no tax and no surprises.

    Weekend Shopping: Obsessions & Impulses

After years of discontinuing designer discounts, DSW served up some major discounts on Gucci shoes. Prices are discounted up to 70% off. Styles have been selling out fast but the website seems to be restocking daily. We suggest you continue to check back even if what you want has sold out.

Once upon a time, New York discount shoppers had numerous options. There was Loehmann’s, Daffy’s, Filene’s, Syms, and Century 21. Now there will be none. On Thursday, Centruy 21 announced that it filed for bankruptcy and will be closing all 13 stores leaving behind an era of shopping legends.

The stories that would emerge if those racks could talk. The life lessons learned from the “Back Room” to the home of “Clothing Bargains for Millionaires” educated generations of deal hunters. They were shopping destinations where even a little bit of money could take you far.

Everyone has a story. I still remember the way my hand was shaking 20-years ago when handed over my credit card to be swiped to charge a $900 for a $2500 Prada coat at Century 21. So much lust. So much adrenaline. So much doubt.
There were real bargains on real designer labels. All New Yorkers quickly learn that nothing lasts forever. and this chapter of shopping has unequivocally come to an end. TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack will never offer the thrills that were provided by the traditional and independently owned discount store. How can they? Without falling too far down the path of nostolgia we will persevere.
Those looking to spruce up their wardrobes for Fall can find good discounts on MatchesFashion. The code EXTRA20 will save you an additional 20% off. Highlights include a Fendi dress for $1300 from nearly $4000, a Marine Surre dress for $370 from $1120, and a Balenciaga shirt for $340 from $825. Lots more on the full post over here
In an absence of Fashion Week, we started diving into the chunky sole boot trend. There are numerous options to stomp your way into tough-luxe, including options from Stella McCartney Bottega Veneta’ and lots more. Check out the more over here.
With international shopping on my mind, I clicked over to the UK version of Net-A-Porter and was amazed by the deals and that’s even after the currency was exchanged to US dollars. There is a Gucci apple tee that’s $442 from $690 US retail and a small Gucci belt is $325 from $360. Read up on how to sort for the most savings here.
Lastly, if you’re in New York and want some old-world discount shopping feel you can head to 375Showroom’s clearance sale. Designer merchandise from Off-White, Palm Angels, Amiri, and more are up to 85% off. You can find all the details here.
That’s it for now folks. Until next time… same time, same place?

    Net-A-Porter UK: Lots for Less

How much fun is it to travel and shop? It’s one of the things I’m personally missing most this year. I can’t tell you how many times I have made my way through London and ignored the fact that the British pound isn’t equivalent to the US dollar.

It makes it feel like everything is on sale. That is– until you get your credit card bill. But by then, you’re already home and it’s too late to do anything about it. With international shopping on my mind, I clicked over to the UK version of Net-A-Porter and was amazed by the deals even after the currency was exchanged to US dollars.

Some of my most exciting finds were among the Gucci items. This Gucci apple tee that’s $442 from $690 US retail, a small Gucci belt is $325 from $360, Jordaan loafers are $700 from $790, a jacquard hat is $450 from $590, tights are $110 from $120 (if you can find them), and a metallic double-G sweater is $806 compared to $980 in the US.

Be careful, not all items are less expensive and some pieces will cost you even more money. The key to finding good deals from abroad is to stay under the $800 price point, which is when duties kick in.  Another key point is that all shipping is free over $200 pounds or $257.
