Neiman Marcus First Markdown – Contemporary

For the fast few months, we have been locally tracking lots of reward shopping incentives– sale-on-sale discounts, and friends and family promotions. Sale season is about to get real serious as stores begin their markdowns on contemporary designer merchandise. Neiman Marcus started its first markdown on contemporary labels.

The discount is 30% to 40% off on most merchandise. The highlighted brands include Cinq a Sept, Frame, and L’Agance among others. This ALC military green blazer immediately caught our eye at $242 from $575 and these pants with ankle slits seem perfect for stylish boots at $234 from $395. This Zadig & Voltaire light cashmere sweater is $261 from $348 and this Alanui cardigan is $1813 from nearly $3000.
The clearance section is also amply stocked with designer finds that are drastically reduced. This Moncler puffer is $700 from over $2000, Valentino high boots are $665 from $1650, and this Brandon Maxwell white silk shirt is $323 from $1300.
Next week we should start seeing real first markdowns, which will mark the real beginning of the sale season. Stay tuned.

    Weekend Shopping: Obsessions & Impulses

Just in time to celebrate its 90th anniversary,  Madison Avenue’s famed, Carlyle Hotel opened its doors to guests this week. Bemelmans Bar, Café Carlyle, The Gallery, and The Carlyle Restaurant are set to reopen in phases.

New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers alike are enchanted by the romanticism of the Rosewood-owned Carlyle. It’s the tallest structure on Madison Avenue and understandably has some of the best views that extend past Central Park, through the Hudson River, and over to New Jersey. The famous Empire Suite, which is located on the 29th floor, has absolutely breathtaking views from the master bedroom and has been featured in numerous films.

As we head into a fun-filled Saturday night you can click here to read more about the Carlyle Hotel and insider information from a host of other Madison Avenue hotel properties here.

One wouldn’t dream about walking into Bemelmans Bar underdressed and the flurry of Singles Day sales is a fine way to plan ahead. Most recently Nugnes 1920, a boutique located in Italy, started a promotion where most all merchandise is reduced 25% off with the code DEALMOON25SD.  A Gucci belt $291 from $470, a Fendi camera bag $874 from $1290 US, the Saint Laurent Loulou bag is $1151 from $1490 US, and a is Moncler Puffer $752 from $1200 US.

Another great Singles Day promotion can be found at Harvey Nichols where the code SINGLESTYLEUS will save you 22% off purchases over $800 (excluding beauty) or 11% off everything $799 or under. We highly suggest you check out the Golden Goose options that come to nearly 50% off US prices once you apply the discount. This promotion is a also prime opportunity to also stock up on some gift items. This Off-White Jitney bag is $805 from $1225 normally and Roger Vivier pumps are $472 from $695. You can click here to see some more of my favorite deals from Harvey Nichols.

In other shopping news, Bergdorf Goodman is hosting a sale where a plethora of designer sale merchandise is discounted an additional 20% off, which brings the total saving to nearly 80% on some items. The Manolo Blahnik selection is plentiful. Here are pink suede pumps for $212 from $666 and multi-color lizard heels are $300 from $924. The sale ends at midnight Saturday, so you might want to do one last scroll through my suggestions of the best finds

Looking forward, the holiday season has unofficially started. (The Park Avenue trees are even up.) In the US, there will be a smattering of smaller markdowns and the big designer sales will start in mid-November.

That’s it for now folks. Until next time… same time, same place?

Harvey Nichols Pricing Advantages & Big Promotions

Sponsored by Harvey Nichols and ShopStyle

It’s always fantastic to pounce on a great deal but what do you do when it’s not sale season and there is an item you need. Paying full price is always an option of last resort but another tactic is to price compare stores overseas.

Harvey Nichols is a famous London luxury department store. We’ve consistently found retail prices for less than you would find stateside. These Golden Goose sneakers are regularly priced at Harvey Nichols for $410 but these Superstar sneakers normally retail for $530 in the US. The same goes for many beauty items like Creme de la Mer moisturizer is $145 at Harvey Nichols but $190 at most US beauty suppliers.

The deals are even better during a good promotion, which is right now. Through November 14 you can shop Harvey Nichols and save 22% off purchases over $800 (excluding beauty) or 11% off everything $799 or under.  Just use the code SINGLESTYLEUS at checkout to engage the extra savings. That means those Golden Goose sneakers go down to just $364 and my favorite La Mer face cream is only $129.

Some other great standouts include this Canada Goose Down parka that comes to $936 from $1200, this ‘S Max Mara alpaca blend teddy-type coat comes to $866 from $1765 in the US and this Barbour jacket by Alexa Chung is $382 from $688 at many other retailers. Don’t miss all the great Herno jackets and the excellent price advantage. This quilted shell is $382 from $645 in the states and this heavier style with a fur collar is $1496 from $2235 normally.

This promotion is a prime opportunity to also stock up on some gift items. This Off-White Jitney bag is $805 from $1225 normally and Veja sneakers are $93 from $105.

The moral of the story is that a good sale or promotion is always opportune but knowing where to find a great price advantage as offered by Harvey Nichols can be equally as important. You really hit the jackpot if you can score both– like NOW!

Bergdorf Goodman Sale Finds 80% Off

The sale section and promotions never seem to go away. Bergdorf Goodman is now offering a discount of an additional 20% off their sale merchandise. The sale started Thursday morning and markdowns top 80% off.

The handbag department surprisingly has a few gems still remaining. Here is a Tom Ford bag reduced to $1100 from $2750. You should also check out all the Hayward options. The prices are incredible and it’s a great little stylish bag. Here is a little leopard style for $252 from $790 and a crushed velvet clutch that’s $250 from $775. We also spotted this VBH sparkle clutch that’s $460 from $1149.
If you’re browsing for shoes, it’s best if you sort by size. There are only one or two available in each style but the deals are really good. The Manolo Blahnik selection is plentiful. Here are pink suede pumps for $212 from $664, multi-color lizard heels are $300 from $924, and these embroidered BBs are $222 from $700.  There are also these Nicholas Kirwood flats for $190 from $600 and Aquazzura boots are $370 from $924.
There is a serious assortment of Moncler items. We spotted this Moncler leopard print puffer for $800 from $2025 and this Richard Quinn animal print is $865 from $2165. This wool blazer from The Row is $437 from $2200 and this Balmain dress is $530 from $1350.
There are some great options for men shopping too. The sale runs through Saturday. Also check out sister store Neiman Marcus, which is also offering a promotion where sale merchandise is up to an extra 30% off.

    Singles Day Sales Cheat Sheet

Singles Day is the Chinese version of an anti-Valentines day. Really, what’s there not to love? Celebrating social freedom with shopping.

    We.Are.In!

The shopping-focused day first started in 1993, by a group of Chinese college students, to celebrate the state of being single. The date November 11 (or 11/11) was chosen because of the ones– obviously. Elevens, according to numerology, is a “master number” which signifies intuition, insight, and enlightenment.

We’ve started to think of Singles Day as ‘Treat Yourself Day.’ After all, we’ve never turned down an occasion to shop and buy something nice. Retailers are jumping in on the trend too. Last year, Singles Day was referred to as the new “Black Friday.”

There is really a great assortment of sales. So in light of this day of spiritual consumership, we’ve highlighted some great places to shop and a few things we wouldn’t mind “single-ing.”

    Weekend Shopping: ???? ???? Obsessions & Impulses

This weekend is the convergence of several notable occurrences: it’s Halloween, daylight savings, and a blue moon. As October briskly morphs into the holiday season, it’s the perfect time to speak about our markdown and sale expectations.

The holiday shopping season started so early you can almost hear the twinkling lights as we packed up from the beach on Labor Day. This season, I expect to see heavier discounts earlier than we’ve ever seen. I also think that there will be waves of exclusions, depending on the popularity of the brand.

Everyone should keep that stores will be overwhelmed with shipping requests. You can expect there to be lots of delays from the convergence of increased online orders and sales associates shipping most purchases. You can expect shipping companies will pass along lots of delays too. My advice: ORDER EARLY!

This week we’ve already seen some serious promotions vailed in the celebration of Singles Day, which isn’t even until November 11. Net-A-Porter is already offering 22% off a full assortment of merchandise with the code SINGLES22. (You can read more details about the promotion here.)

You can shop at Harrods now and benefit from the price advantage and 10% off to those who register with their loyalty program. These Golden Goose seakers come to just about $310 from about $500 in the US. This Bottega Cassette bag (in my favorite teal color) is $2378 from $2800 US, here is this year’s updated style with the heavy chain (which isn’t very heavy at all) for $3186 from $3800 US and this woven linen tote is a great deal by all accounts for $1511 from $1850 US. Don’t miss the Bottega rain boots for $470 from $650 US or Lido heels for $850 from $1200 US.

If you need to stock up on beauty items and cosmetics, you should keep an eye on Sephora. Depending on your loyalty status you can save up to 20% off everything at the store. Rouge members, or those who spend $1000 or more a year at Sephora, can save 20% off right now. The Dyson hairdryer comes to $320 from a value of $464 for the gift set and the Airwrap styler (curling iron) set is $440 from $550. Don’t miss all the holiday gift sets. Check out this YSL “Lipstick Vault” and this Artis brush set

This week we also dove back into 24S, where we have found a steady discount on LV items. French legislation has thwarted the tradition of destroying merchandise and luxury retailers are only beginning to figure out new ways to abide by the new laws. That means discounts for us. The selection is continually restocked. We suggest you check back often. You can click here to read more and to see all of my great finds

Moda Operandi is currently offering 25% off a large selection of Fall clothing. You can save 25% off by using the code FALL25 with anything in this edit.  Check out these high-rise boot cut leather pants from Goldsign that comes to $825 from $1100, these Paris Texas knee-high leather boots are about $630 from $840 and this Philosophy sweater is $356 from $475. You can check out more details here.

Coming up this week, we can expect to see a lot more promotions leading up to Singles Day. We would keep an extra keen on European retailers, which have really started to heavily compete against US pricing.

That’s it for now folks. Happy Halloween! Until next time… same time, same place?
