    Weekend Shopping: Obsessions & Impulses

    This past year was undoubtedly historic. For the first time since WWII, the entire world shared a similar experience. In relation to fashion, there was a seismic shift. Even avid shoppers questioned and deliberated over every purchase regardless of the price tag. 

    We questioned how any new purchase would be used. When it would be used. Where it would be used. Even today, I must admit to having an abundance of unworn purchases. As we begin to think about how fashion will evolve post-Covid it’s important to remember how our clothes reflect our mood and creativity.

    As we move from lockdown to freedom I can clearly see a world where people seek to celebrate and share. In terms of fashion through 2022, that may translate to a surge of consumption, decadence, and show-off culture. We have already started to see the beginnings of this trend as the art world and high-end jewelry and watch values have skyrocketed. Clearly, there is no ceiling on Chanel prices. 

    As society opens we should focus our buying power on items that enhance our lives. Items that have longevity and reflect our individuality. They should have meaning and give meaning to our daily existence. That doesn’t mean we need to pay full price.
    This week, Saks Fifth Avenue started a promotion where you can save $400 of your purchase with the code SHHB21SF. Some of the best values include this Saint LaurentMedium Matelassé Leather Wallet-On-Chain that comes to $1150 from $1550 or Manolo Blahnik Lurum heels come to $1000 from $1300.
    Bergdorf Goodman is offering an extra 30% off sale. The best selection is the athletic clothing. These Ultracore leggings with roses are $98 from $188 and Monrow sweatpants are $76 from $146. Generally, the pickings are slim but we did find these Gianvitto Rossi low suede heels are $295 from $84 and this fringe suede jacket from Dan Cassab for $490 from $1400. 
    The biggest sale of the week was undoubtedly J Brand. Almost the entire inventory is discounted up to 90% off. this Highrise Slim Straight comes to $68 from $288, these leather joggers come to only $119 from nearly $1000, and here are Highrise Boot Cut Leather pants for $89 from nearly $1000.     We were subsequently told that going forward, J Brand will only be sold directly to consumers and at Theory = and Uniqlo stores. J Brand is currently owned by Fast Retailing, which operates Uniqlo, Comptoir des Cotonniers, GU, Princesse Tam-Tam, and Theory.

    If you are shopping for any outerwear or ski gear you’re not going to want to miss this post. Both MyTheresa and MatchesFashion are offering discounts up to 50% off. There are lots of great options from Bogner, Perfect Moment, Goldbergh, Holden, and more.

    Nugnes 1920: Early Season Discounts

    A lot of our local stores are done with sale season but that the world is big. There is always an alluring reason to shop! Nugnes 1920 is a multi-brand store with several boutiques along the Eastern coast of Italy and they are offering 15% off new Spring and Summer merchandise with the code WELCOME15.

    The site has a great selection of Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Prada and YSL for which you can apply the discount code. The site even has a selection of the new Ken Scott Gucci collection. Check out this floral print bucket hat that comes to $354 from  $530 US. That’s essentially a 30% savings. This white Gucci belt is $374 from $470 US. This Bottega Veneta messenger style bag is $1700 from $2150. It’s probably more usable and less trendy than some of the brand’s other new styles. This Prada net pouch is $860 from $1220 US and a Saint Laurent Baby Sac du Jour is $2000 from $2290. 
    The savings doesn’t always seem huge but when some items are comparied to US retail the difference can be a good first markdown. Take note, that some new seasons shoe sizes are selling out fast.  If there is a great classic, you might want to take this opporunity to snatch it up now.

    Denim trends diligently shift every season. That’s how your favorite pair from last season doesn’t look quite right after a few months. The shift is sometimes subtle but the esthetic can be huge. Avoid styles that look like they are painted on your body or a wash that’s too light. Opt for heavier-weight denim that leaves some room at the ankle.

    Normally this would be a very exciting week of fashion shows and parties. The Covid version of New York Fashion week is limited to a series of short films and interviews, which are as eventful as, well, standing at Penn Station and waiting for the next train. Yes, it’s that excruciating.

    As I stare into my closet of unworn clothing I can’t help but wonder if fashion can exist without being seen. Is an unboxing of new Chanel shoes on Instagram Reels the same as sauntering into Indochine and air-kissing remote acquaintances? It certainly doesn’t feel nearly as validating as catching the eye of assorted street photographers as you wait for your Uber on a feezing coroner of Tribeca. 
    This week we witnessed the influencer activation of the new Louis Vuitton Coussin ($3550). It is a logo-embossed leather bag with a heavy chain and thick guitar strap. Seems like a hybrid between the Bottega Veneta Cassette bag with a heavy chain and the LV Multi Pouchette. It’s sure to hit the scene like garlic hitting a frying pan of overheated oil–hot for a moment and quickly overdone.
    Speaking of overdone, that’s one way we can categorize sale season. The options are slim and far between.  At the Italian boutique, Coltrori you can save 15% off sitewide with the code DEALMOON15. A purple padded Bottege Cassette bag comes to $2210 from $2990 US and this Saint Laurent canvas tote is $888 from $1250 US. 
    Elise Walker’s FWRD is taking final reductions. This Valentino studded crossbody bag is $814 from $1600 and Aquazzura sandals are $262 from $600.  We also spotted a great deal at Gilt. which is hosting a flash sale where all Manolo Blahnik Hangisi shoes are $650. Most styles normally range from $995 to $1035.

    What Happened to All the Gucci Belts?

    It was only last year at this time that Gucci’s double-G logo belts were an integral part of every fashionistas war chest.  Over the course of the past several months, they have become an example of banal style choices. An eagle eye follower, however, reached out and shared stories of her hunt for the notorious Gucci belt. It seems to besold out nearly everywhere. 

    Nordstrom is sold out. Saks is sold out. Neiman Marcus is sold out. Bloomingdales is sold out. Bergdorf Goodman is sold out. Very peculiar, right?

    If you’re in the market for the OG, you can still grab some color varieties on Gucci.com. There are some styles available on LuisaViaRoma. You can find a wide assortment on Ssense. There are even a few color options that are priced a little bit under retail. This brown belt with a gold buckle is $410 from $470. Jomashop has this black belt with a gold buckle for $299 from $470. 

    The only explanation is that the passe accessory is about to be redesigned and reintroduced. The outstanding question is if Gucci still has the attention of the luxury market.

    Obsessions & Impulses: Wicker, Straw & Rattan– Oh My!

    Straw isn’t only for beach bags and picnic baskets. This Spring’s biggest designer trend is a little wicker mixed with leather details. Every designer from Chanel to Prada is offering raffia options to weave into your warm-weather wardrobe.
