Sally LaPointe is well known for catching the eye by sending monochrome ensembles down the runway with a wide array of texture and shine. It’s the designer’s keen use for color and tone that leads us to fall in love every season. It would be a huge incentive to attend the show already armed with a Pantone color wheel or even an oversized box of Crayola crayons.
This season, Sally LaPointe’s color stories included, Matcha green, Irish buttery white, Garnet red, orchid, Dijon gold and, of course, blackest black. Each of these shades brings complexity to each outfit and enhances the layering of sequins, shine, fur, and satin. The only pitfall is that to achieve the same look you would need to purchase the entire head-to-toe ensemble. There is no way to look-for-less any of these outfits and that might be the genius of Sally LaPointe.
In the show notes, the designer says she drew references from Elvis’ 1968 comeback special and applied the aesthetic to modern day dressing. The Fall 2019 variation included newsboy hats, relax-fit belted pants and faux wrap midi-skirts with a high slit. Click here to see pictures from inside the show.
As accessories go, we especially liked LaPoint’s use of utility belts. It was an urban element with a high-end twist. That’s not surprising there is nothing low-rent about any of the looks shown on Tuesday. We would be scared to ask for more details about those died-to-match Manolos.
