The Madison Avenue boutique, Worldly Things may be better known among those who carry an AARP card but after 30 years this neighborhood mainstay is closing its doors. The store, which is located on Madison and 70th Street, is hosting an “End of an Era” sale where most merchandise is discounted 50% to 70% off.
Although much of the fashion would not be considered modern by today’s standards, one has to admire the craftsmanship and product quality carried in this boutique. While talking to the store owner, he highlighted several cashmere coats that were all and sown. (Couture anyone?)
As expected, this type of quality usually comes with a high price tag but the discounts do make the fashion a lot more affordable. Coats, which range from $1800 to about $2400 are now 50% off. Silk scarves are $100. Sweaters that resemble Chanel’s tweeds and multi-color knits are now $500 from $1400.
Younger shoppers might appreciate the accessories. We found the most adorable lizard bag that looked to be inspired by the mini-Hermes Kelly for $750 from $2500. A CDC-inspired belt was $300.
The boutique officially closes in December and we expect that extra discounts will be taken. Between now and then you might need to make a date with mom or grandma to show off your shopping prowess. We are sure she will be impressed!
