For most people, the post-Super Bowl snowstorm was another weather disruption as part of a horrible New York winter. For those stranded in New York, flight cancellations just meant the perfect opportunity to shop Manolo Blahnik’s final markdown.
Today was the first day of the bi-annual sale. Prices, as expected, run from $195 to about $325. The selection compared to past seasons, however, is much smaller. Usually the sale is comprised of almost everything from outgoing season. This time around, the sale merchandise is void of any basic colors and the normal classics. For instance, a classic boot in maroon is marked down but the black version is still full price. This normally is not the case and was a major disappointment to Manolo sale veterans.
Despite the demise of discount classics, there are still lots of great style shoes from which to shop. There is a full assortment of BB style shoes for $225. there’s black and white, green, purple, teal and various textures. There is also an assortment of Hangisi jeweled pumps but they are also in non-classic colors. There is a full color assortment of Srilasca style shoes, which is a low heeled scalloped pump. There are a few styles of smoking slippers and Mary Janes. As usual, there is an assortment of exotic skin shoes but they are still very expensive at 50% off. (Best to buy exotics at the sample sale.)
Note that despite the snow, the boutique was quite crowded. Sizes were beginning to go quickly. This is one of those sales that you should not wait to attend. That being said, this isn’t our favorite Manolo sale and we wouldn’t suggest going too far out of your way to shop. Take note, the store does close from 2pm to 3pm. Lights go out and shoppers must wait for the store to be reorganized before entering.
