The Chloe sample sale opened this afternoon to invited press and brand VIPs. We were one of the lucky few to have the opportunity to shop the freshly presented merchandise. The line outside today was just a few minutes but we expect the wait to be much longer when the sale opens to the public tomorrow.
Discounts range from 50% off for bags all the way up to 80% off for Chloe ready-to-wear. The bag selection was the first stop for most shoppers. Most customers weren’t thrilled by the markdown and we noticed more bag inspecting than buying.
We agree on taking a pass on the half-off bags. Shoppers are better off waiting until there is a good Bloomingdales markdown. If you catch it right, you can snag a Chloe bag for over 60% off. The sampel sale also has a two bag limit, which will reduce the hoarding even if there is a price cut. (You can click here to see a few of the bags that were available at the sale.)
The remainder of the upstairs portion of the sale is comprised of clothing from Chloe and See by Chloe–the lower end line. Chloe and See by Chloe clothing are reduced 80% off retail. We spotted some pretty See by Chloe ruffled dresses that come to $90 from $450. The price point is clearly fantastic but the fabric is the type of rayon that makes your skin crawl. Another See by Chloe standout was a silver leather and shearling jacket that came to $470 from $2350. The is a much better quality item, which is reflected in the higher price. We have more pics this way.
Chloe items are obviously more pricey. A rack of linen blouses is very pretty but not stand-out enough to justify the price at even 80% off. One style comes to $950 from $4750. A poplin cotton shirtdress is probably a better option at $400 from $2000. Pants are generally priced at about $1100 and come to $220. (Click for pics.)
We found the best options downstairs in the shoe section. Shoes are reduced by 70%. We spotted various scalloped Lauren heels and flats that range in price from $150 to $180 after the discount. There were also Laren shoes with the pointed toe, which look a bit more modern than the classic round flat. We also really like the Lauren flat sandals for Summer but think they are pricey at nearly $200 from $650. The sale also has lots of boots and shoes. You can click here to see a lot of what’s available.
We expect that the first days of this sale will be very busy. Lines may even extend around the block. We would suggest restraining your shopping impulses until later in the sale run. The Neiman Marcus sale section has discounts very similar to the sample sale. We added some examples above.
We are pretty sure that there will also be price cuts. We will be sure to keep you posted on Instagram if we hear any changes.
