The Diane von Furstenberg sample sale is back. Today the sale opened to a huge crowd of shoppers. Although there is a lot less current season inventory than normal, there is a great selection of $50 samples that can’e be beat.
Usually this sample sale is fully stocked with the designer’s wrap dresses but this season there doesn’t seem to be too many of the iconic DVF item. Instead, you will find a real scattering of past seasons’ fashion. A majority of the merchandise seems to be from past winters. There are coats and leather items as well as sweaters and jackets. There are no shoes, swimsuits or traditional beach coverups.
Prices are a bit better than usual. All dresses are $100 (they normally range from $125 to $150), jackets are $90 and blouses are $60. Leather and fur is priced at $150. The more ornate cocktail dresses and gowns are also $150. Sizes from from a petite zero to 14.
This season there is also a lot more $50 samples than usual. In total there are six full racks and we are told that there is a lot more sample inventory that will be pulled out as the sale continues. We found leopard print dresses and blouses, puffer coats and lots of interesting items that could not be pegged to a particular season or collection.
The best part of the sample sale is the handbag selection, which includes our favorite red patent leather lip clutch for $175. There was also another gorgeous clutch with real stingray for the same price. Smaller clutches are $75 and a large assortment of scarves are $60.
As always, the DVF sale is a worthy shop. The open stock may be more scattered than normal but a little bit of digging can yield some major rewards. We expect price cuts to start Wednesday. Jump on the jump for more pictures and pricing details.
