Discount shoppers will thrilled to learn that Century 21 is now having their summer clearance event. While promotions boast savings up to 75% off their normal prices, we found most designer clothing to be discounted 25% to 50% off Century’s normal discount.
We headed Downtown to the discounter’s “flagship” store and were rather pleased with the assortment of sale inventory and prices. Merchandise from Italian design houses were most plentiful and seemed to have the best discounts with a 50% cut. Other designers were either 1/3-off or 25% off Century 21’s already discounted prices.
It appears as if Dolce & Gabanna enthusiasts will make out best. Many of their sexy dresses are priced around $250 and corset tops are $150. In fact, most of the designer dresses from the likes of Alberta Ferretti, Rochas, Salvatore Ferragamo, Moschino, Derek Lam and Chloe ranged from $100 to $300.
The majority of the most desirable clothing on sale was limited to dresses, while many of the separates were in rough shape and largely unappealing styles. However, we were a bit shocked to find a boxy Chloe cropped leather jacket reduced to a mere $166! (Even the See by Chloe label prices a cropped leather jacket for nearly $1000.)
Be sure to browse the racks of designer outerwear, which are all 50% off. We found amazing classic Jil Sander trenches, Dolce Gabanna and Jason Wu woolen numbers priced between $250 to $350. A quick sweep of the wall racks may also be in order since most of the diffusions lines like McQ, Just Cavalli and Vivienne Westwoord Anglomania are hanging at half off.
Over in the shoe department there is a great selection of designer footwear included in the markdown. Most shoes are now an extra 25% off. Our favorite finds were the $199 Chloe leather wedges but a Ferragamo version is a budget steal at $99. While not on sale, we couldn’t help but notice the abundance of Tory Burch shoes, including their flower ballet espadrille flats for $80 and green leather Reva-esque wedges for $150. While the shoe section is usually hit or miss, the prospect of finding discounted Manolos and Casadei pumps is worth the extra effort.
