    Missoni Sale Includes Home Items

Missoni is always the first boutique on Madison Avenue to officially start their seasonal sale. What’s included in the markdown can fluctuate from year to year. This year, the Missoni sale is great– perhaps that’s a bad thing for the economy.

Unlike most past seasons, this Missoni sale includes swim, scarves and select home items. Most of the merchandise from the cruise collection–that came into stores in December–is discounted 50%. Other items are discounted from 30% to 40%. A black skirt with lacquered cloth and embroidered appliqué is now $1320 from $2640 and a more classic chevron patterned silk knit dress is $1440 from $2880.

The shoes to the left of the sale section are all 50% off. Black and white runway sandals are $575 from $1150. Swimsuits, cover-ups and other beachwear are 30% off. Baskets of scarves are 35% off. Most of the brightly colored scarves now range in price from about $250 to $340 from retail prices that ran from $430 to $560.

The best part of the sale, is the wall of home goods. Shoppers can find a small assortment of towels, robes and pillows that are reduced 40%. Brightly colored large bath towels are now $192 from $320, smaller versions are $186 from $310 and robes are $228 from $380.

Last season Missoni ran a second markdown where prices were reduced 70% to 80% off. We wouldn’t be surprised if we saw the same discounts this summer. The cold weather has left a lot of stores will extra merchandise. Click-jump to  see an assortment of pictures from inside the boutique.

    Pre-Sale Barney’s, Bergdorf & Saks

Memorial Day is traditionally known as the first day of the summer season but it’s also the start of sale season. As always, we will be starting our markdown roundups. Department stores usually kick-off the retail sale season with boutiques following closely behind. It’s generally taboo for a brand-owned store to begin a sale before the department stores. After all, a department store has to buy their inventory for a wholesale markup while a brand-owned boutique keeps the extra profit from a straight-to-retail model.

This week, is a big week for presales. Presale season akin to the “quiet period” before a company goes public. You can’t actually buy the merchandise but you can have your broker, oh sorry– sales person, hold your preferred items until the sale officially begins. Most stores take your credit card information and charge your account when the items ship or you pick them up.

In all instances, Chanel and Louboutin will not be marked down at any department store or boutique until the beginning of June. Nonetheless, it’s never too early to plot your purchases and share your acquisition wishes with a good sales person. Second markdown usually begins at the end of June and discounts usually range from 50% to 70% off.

Online markdowns usually start over the holiday weekend. For now, we have a roundup of first markdowns at our favorite department stores:

    Barneys
Pre-sale at Barneys starts Tuesday. Most designer collections and shoes will be discounted 35% off. The official sale starts May 27th. We are happy that the store was a bit restrained with the uber-print trend. We suggest you do the same. Most designers won’t be making such bold statements next season.

    Bergdorf Goodman
Wednesday will be the first day of pre-sale at Bergdorf. The discount is 30% off shoes and 40% off clothing. Purchases will be shipped or available in the store on Sunday, May 25. We are fully committed to purchasing an Alaia dress this summer but we still might have to wait until the next markdown.

    Saks Fifth Avenue
Pre-sale orders will begin Wednesday and merchandise will be available to be picked up or shipped after the holiday weekend. Shoes will start at a 30% discount while clothing will be discounted 40%. Most designer merchandise is included. We always appreciate the Vionnet collation at Saks, although we believe it could be a bit larger.

    Tibi Sample Sale

Feeling chic is an essential part of the Madison Avenue personality. Pulling off the summer casual chic, however, can sometimes be more challenging than the dressing-up chic. In these times Tibi is an easy stand-by. Eye catching prints and bright colored dresses can dress up the most dismal days packed with errands.

Sure we love a great dress but $600 for a casual items is cause for thought. Most days, we rather save our $600 for Saks’ third floor or Bergdorf’s second floor. Tibi at a fraction of the price, however, makes our compass turn.

This week, Tibi is hosting a sample sale where clothing, swimwear, shoes and home accessories will be priced up to 70% off retail. The best are always the $65 skirts and tops and pants for $75. Most dresses are priced between $150 and $175 but keep your eyes on their Facebook page for extra 20% to 50% off.

Tuesday, May 20 through Thursday, May 22
    Tues 12pm to 8pm, Wed 9am to 8pm, Thurs 9am to 5pm

Get to Know COS & Save 25%

H&M’s untra-chic little sister, COS, recently launched their website to American customers and we couldn’t be more thrilled. You see, COS is modern, sleek and super affordable. COS is less expensive than Zara but has the look and feel of Jil Sander. Who can ask for anything more?

COS has plans to open a store on Spring Street in the fall. For now you can shop the online store and save 25% off and free shipping on all orders through June 30th.

Come, take a look. Check out this poplin cotton cap sleeve dress in power blue. It’s just $115 and, we are told, the quality similar to a higher-end designer. These better-looking-than Birkenstock leather sandals are $125 and this cutout necklace is a mixture of Lanvin and Marni and is priced at just $39. COS even has a great assortment of children’s clothing.

Ironically, Rebekka Bay, the lead designer of COS just jumped ship to Gap. Although, we didn’t find Gap’s current spring collection very interesting. Gap’s fall lookbook has a striking resemblance to the signature COS style. Check it out here. Fashion insiders are betting that Rebekka Bay could be the new Jenna Lyons. (J. Crew’s head designer.) In the meantime, we highly suggest you familiarize yourself with COS now because it’s sure to make a big style impact.

VBH Boutique Private 40% Off Sale

The über-luxury handbag company, VBH is hosting a limited-time promotion where select handbags are reduced 40%. This is a rare treat for Madison Avenue shoppers, as the boutique (or more accurately the luxury gallery) does not often offer discount promotions.

Last week, the brand did host a sample sale at Soffer Haskin and these bags can very well be what was left over from the event. Nonetheless, we welcome a 40% discount without having to go to the Penn Station neighborhood. The best part is that the sale selection is quite good and there is a heavy concentration of exotic bags and accessories.

We secretly obtained access to the full inventory for the sale. You can browse all of the pictures after the jump. There is a large variety of the brand’s iconic Manila, which normally runs about $2200 in python and between $1100 to $1300 for fabric varieties. The python hobo retails for $4950 and a larger python handbag with bold hardware (Brera) is $4049.

It’s unclear if this sale will run for very long. You should call immediately, if you’re interested in any of the items in the pictures. We strongly suggest you go to the boutique for the experience. It’s like shopping in a fine art museum. Furthermore, we hear that VBH’s lease is up and Apple may be taking over.

    Inside the Bonpoint Sample Sale

The Bonpoint sample sale doesn’t officially start until tomorrow but there was a line of more than 50 people when we arrived immediately before the sale opened. This season’s sale is almost identical to past sales season’s, except that there seems to be less inventory than usual.

All of the  merchandise at the Bonpoint sample sale is at set 60% off the retail sticker. That means that more formal dresses, which are normally priced in the $400-range are reduced to $260-ish. More casual dresses are about $200 in the boutique and come to about $80 at the sale. Boy’s trousers are about $60 from $150 and collared shirt comes to $48 from $120.

The majority of the inventory appears to be from the spring 2013 collection. The most plentiful selection is within the shoe departmental Sizes range from itty-bitty to a size 38. Girl’s patent mary janes are about $140 from $220 , sandals are $85 from $220 and canvas derby shoes are about $80 from $120.

Sorting through the clothing, there is almost something for everyone. The only exception is those looking to fit a child who wears a size two or three. If this is the case, we might suggest skipping the sale completely. There is almost nothing. The best selection is for infants. You can furnish an entire layette with sample sale Bonpoint if you choose.

The sale also includes accessories, swimwear, sun hats, pajamas, jackets and sweaters. Most of the shoppers were loading up full bags of merchandise. So we suggest that Bonpoint shoppers head over quickly and those who aren’t can find lots of success at Zara kids.
