As you’re finalizing your Memorial weekend plans, retailers are beginning to start their seasonal markdowns. The past couple of sale seasons have been peculiar. Frankly speaking, the retail business has been difficult and retailers are trying to figure out how to markdown ‘wisely’.
A honcho at Bergdorf Goodman told us that the store has decided that it will no longer be discounting any Gucci. We hear that this is also the newest policy at Gucci boutiques. We’ll see for how long that policy lasts. After all, old merchandise needs to go somewhere.
Among the items on presale are lots and lots of bags and shoes. This season, Bergdorf Goodman is implementing a phase in system. Over the course of the next few weeks more designer brands will be added to the sale. For now, you can choose from Tom Ford and Saint Laurent, which are both discounted 40%. Most other designer shoes and bags are marked down 30%. The sale officially goes public on Tuesday.
Some of the sale highlights include the Tom Ford Sienna bag in various colors is discounted to $1470 from $2450. The grey is $1350 from $2250 and is quite lovely. The Saint Laurent bag collection isn’t really very good but we have an affinity for this rainbow envelope bag and the Monogram shoulder bag is $1390 from nearly $2000. Here is a Sac Ju Jour in basic black for about $2000n from nearly $2900. The presale also includes Alaia, Alexander McQueen, Anya Hindmarch, Balenciaga, Givenchy and more. (All the sale bags except Givenchy are already discounted online.)
Valentino, The Row and Fendi are part of the next phase. We are expecting to see lots of the seasonal bags included in the markdown like the tribal patterns or ultra-expensive embellished bags. The Fendi bags should run along the same lines with the studded flower bags and some Dotcom bags hitting the sale tables.
Upstairs the shoe presale selection is enormous. There are dozens of Prada styles, rows and rows of Aquazzura.(All the sale shoes are already available online too.) We particularly like these Fendi sandals with studs that are $630 from $900, ruffle suede sandals from Alexandre Birman that are $437 from $625 and Gianvitto Rossi’s block heels are starting to prove to be timeless.
We highly suggest that online shoppers start browsing online now. Most of the products we saw at the store are already discounted online. Once news gets out the best items will be gone very, very, very quickly. Those who prefer to shop at the store can begin by browsing pictures from our shopping trip right here.
