    Department Stores Run Competing Sales

This weekend is turning out to be a competitive time for department store sales. We want to make sure you spend your money wisely and allocate appropriately. Isn’t that what the folks on CNBC are talking about when they speak of diversified portfolios?

Here are this weekend’s highlights along with some upcoming sales. Notice that Bergorf’s beauty event is coming up and equates to 25% off of $100 while Saks friends and family is 15% off cosmetics. Read, shop, save and enjoy:

    Saks
Saks Friends and Family runs until Sunday, April 19th. The general discount is 25% off, an unprecedented 20% off for jewelry, and 15% off for cosmetics.

    Bloomindales
Until April 19th Bloomindales is offering an extra 40% off for a total savings of 50% to 75% off.

Bloomingdales friends and family event runs from April 23rd to April 26th. The discount throughout much of the store will be 20%. Chanel not included.

    Barneys
Barneys is running a gift card event until April 19th where you get a $25 gift card each time you spend $250.

    Bergdorf Goodman
From April 23 to April 25 Bergdorf is running a beauty event where they are offering $25 off when you buy $100 of cosmetics.

    Bloomingdales 50% to 75% Off

The following is from a Bloomingdales postcard:

    First Offer
Thursday to Sunday, April 16 to 19
    Take an Extra
    40% Off*
almost all permanently reduced items for her and him for a total savings of 50% to 75% off original prices.

Plus, take 25% -40% off* a selection of regular-priced fashions for her and him.

*Lots of small print. Here are the highlights: Certain designer and brand exclusions apply. Excludes Women’s Designer Collections and Men’s Tailored Clothing. I’m going to take a wild guess that Chanel is one of those “certain designer and brand exclusions.”

    Barneys Spend and Get

These gift card promotions are starting to feel a lot like a Macy’s one day sale. Their popularity, however, indicates that they drive sales.

This time the gift card is coming from Barneys where for every $250 you spend, you receive a $25 gift card. Spend $250 get $25. Spend $500, get $50. Spend $750, get $75. You get the picture. The promotion runs from April 16th to April 19th.

This seems to be a big week for department store promotions and unless you’re shopping Lanvin go for the Saks friends and family 25% off discount.

Bloomingdales Cocktails and Discounts for Men

We found this men’s promotion on one of our favorite sites: Party Crasher!

On Wednesday, April 15th from 6pm to 10pm men –and women–can enjoy cocktails and discounts tomorrow in the men’s department of both Manhattan Bloomingdales locations. The more you spend the better the discount:

    Spend $200 to $499.99 and save 20%
    Spend $500 to $749.99 and save 25%
Spend more than $750 and save 30%

Chanel Pulls Out of Bloomies Friends and Family

Bloomingdales is hosting a friends and family event from April 23rd to April 26th. The discount throughout much of the store will be 20%. Presale is already in progress.

Usually Chanel participates in friends and family with a gift card incentive. For example, spending $500 earns you a $100 gift card and spending $1000 earns you a $200 etc. We hear that preselling for Chanel was crazy and 90% of the stock room is filled from floor to ceiling.

However, Chanel customers-to-be were blindsided when they received the following information from their sales manager:

    Good afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.

I am very saddened to have to write to all of you, to notify you that Chanel has decided to withdraw from the friends & family event here @ Bloomingdales. The EGC offer no longer stands valid. We have tried to arrange compensation for those of you that were already promised an EGC, but sadly there is nothing they will allow us to offer to you.

For those of you that have already placed orders/requests, please note: they will be voided, unless you call or reply to keep them active
    .

Again, i am so very sorry for the misleading information. We were told early on that the offering would be the same as years past, but upon revision, Chanel decided that this promotion was not appropriate for their brand.

I thank you all (as always) for your business.
If I may answer any questions, please feel free to reply, or to call our handbag boutique.

    Sincerely,
    CHANEL Shoppe Manager
    Bloomingdales

Who do you think are more upset: the disappointed customers or the commissioned sales people?
