Saks 25% Off New Fall Collections

Stores may be offering customers the best sales of the season but it’s hard not to resist shopping the new fall fashions. Not all hope is lost if the temptation is too strong to resist falling for the looks in the “September issues.” This week, Saks Fifth Avenue is offering shoppers 25% off when you spend over $1000.

The promotion runs from Thursday, August 25 to Sunday, August 28 and includes fashions from the fourth and fifth floors. Shoes, handbags and accessories are excluded. Collections that are located on these floors are primarily contemporary and diffusion lines like, Marc by Marc Jacobs, See by Chloe, M by Missoni, Milly, Alexander Wang, DVF and Theory.

We suggest taking advantage of this sale as the first promotion of the season, friends and family, is usually just 20% off. Presale for this sale is already underway and DealGirl has taken full advantage. Those who have disconnected for summer vacation will have to wait until October for friends and family.

    Madison Avenue Spy Fashion Hunt

Fashion’s Night Out is the world’s biggest shopping event and we couldn’t imagine spending the night anywhere else than the avenue with the world’s best stores. That’s Madison Avenue, of course!

This year, yours truly– yes, that’s me—is working in conjunction with the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District and hosting an incredible Twitter “Fashion Hunt” on Madison Avenue, on September 8. Shoppers can collect amazing prizes and enjoy an exclusive champagne toast at the end of the night.

It’s really easy and lots of fun. All you need to do is select three of the participating retailers and tweet a photo of the designated item to @MadisonAveSpy. Randomly selected participants who complete their three tasks will be directed to a secret Madison Avenue location where they will meet at 9pm. Winners will toast their success and walk away with amazing prizes from assorted Madison Avenue stores.

Fashion Hunt Participating stores to date are listed below with more to come. In the Madison Avenue Spy spirit, no purchase is required. Spot me, Lila Delilah, and tweet my photo, and you’ll receive an extra point. Remember to check back as additional retailers are added and follow @MadisonAveSpy and #MadisonAvenueFNO to play along and get helpful clues.

    Dreams of Gold

In recent weeks, investors have flocked to gold to hedge against the market’s volatility. But you don’t have to have a background in high finance or flash trading technology to benefit from gold nearing $1800 an ounce.

Divorce Your Jewels’, Missy Schorr says that her gold business is booming. A recent customer recently liquidated his gold collection that he had been accumulating for over 10-years. He would buy all types of gold chain and odds and ends from eBay, yard sales and flea markets.

The man, who is a litigator by day, brought Missy several bags of the precious metal. She tested it all piece-by-piece for authenticity and weighted the bounty, which she describes looking like a rapper’s rope chain ransom. The end result was a six-figure check paid to the order of the litigator.

How is he going to spend the money? It’s anyone’s speculation. Now is the perfect time to collect your unused gold and call Missy to cash it in for your next big purchase. On the flip side, the Divorce Your Jewels store has an array of designer watches that are mint condition. Some pieces retailed for over $28,000 but are reduced to about $7,000. Now that’s a discount we like!

    Chanel at Daffy’s

One of our spies has a keen eye for Daffy’s and recently told us that the discounter had received a shipment of merchandise from Hirshleifers. The super luxury boutique is located at the Americna Manhasset mall on Long Island, and carries high-end brands like Chanel, Valentino, Roberto Cavalli and Missoni.

To confirm the information, we hit the Daffy’s at East 57th Street. We searched the store with the determination of a Project Runway contestant. Right before we were ready to give up, we spotted the rack, which is located directly outside the lower level women’s fitting room.

We were not disappointed. We found oriental theme print Chanel blouses for $430 from a suggested retail price of $1790, a Givenchy wool jacket for $580 from $2450, a Michael Kors full length skirt fit for a ball for $1200 from $6500 and a Rodarte sequined cocktail dress with navy illusion for $600 from $2530. The real show stopper, however, is a tweed coat that we are sure is Chanel. There is no tag and the buttons were removed but the lining and the tailoring are a dead giveaway. The price is $870 from a suggested retail of $3600.

Unfortunately, there are not many pieces of each item. We are told that the merchandise was spread throughout Manhattan stores and we imagine that sizes and assortments will vary. The merchandise is about three years old but most of these items are timeless in design. You can click here to see a full catalog of pictures from our Daffy’s trip.

    Ladurée Coming Soon

    By: L. Evans

The famed French patisserie, Maison Ladurée is set to open their first NYC location by Fashion’s Night Out (September 8) on Madison Avenue, next to Celine. The lux pastry boutiques are known for their macarons filled with ganache and have locations across the world from Paris to Bahrain.

The company’s pastries are loved by French tourists and locals alike. As one Paris native explained, “It’s not just a fantastic pastry but the best pastries ever… and the experience is divine. I can’t wait. I can’t wait!”

Santoni, the Italian shoemaker, was formerly in the space at 864 Madison Avenue, at 71nd Street. Unfortunately, this location will not serve food but we’re sure most customers can make a lunch of napoleons.

    Giorgio Armani Fourth Floor Sales

    By ManhattanMataHari

While most of the Madison Avenue markdowns have come and gone, the Giorgio Armani boutique is having their collection sale through the end of August. Go straight to the elevator and up to the fourth floor where all the merchandise including accessories and ready-to-wear are discounted 40% off retail.

At a glance it seems the stock is rather limited, but there are multiple sizes and styles in the stock room. This is actually considered a consolidation sale but the discount still doesn’t seem to make a large dent on these big ticket items. We immediately spotted a large selection of leather jackets that are perfect for fall with a structured smooth black lambskin starting at $4825. A finely textured thick gray lambskin version is a bit more at $6425 and brown ruched snakeskin jacket was $10,975.

We spotted a lot of pieces from the spring/summer “La Femme Bleue” collection. Interestingly, the sales racks were overwhelmed by blazers, jackets, and dresses. Dresses in summery whites and beiges ruled the racks. Beige dresses ranged from $1525 for a body-conscious knit to a $2775 for a draped number.

After the hectic summer department store and sample sales, the personalized customer service at Giorgio Armani is quite refreshing. It might even help you forget that the discount is only 40% and the final purchase price is still four figures long.

    Matthew Williamson Final Markdown

Matthew Williamson has started their final markdown. The 60% discount isn’t as good as the customary friends and family sale that was 80% off but we hear promotion has gone the way of the subway token.

The sale ends August 21st and then the merchandise is sent back to Europe. It’s likely that the company has more to gain from a refund on custom taxes than the income from continuing to mark down the merchandise.

The new prices are not yet available online but we anticipate that they will be shortly.
