    Madison Markdowns Round II

    By ManhattanMataHari

Sale season along Madison Avenue is still going strong and some boutiques have even added additional markdowns. Below are some highlights to help you through the July 4th holiday shopping weekend.
    Happy Independence Day!

    Akris
If you head straight downstairs, you ill find a sale section filled with women’s dresses and separates all for 60% off. We were most impressed with the selection of fashionable colorful blazers. All available sizes are out on the sales floor. So you should head to Akris sooner rather than later for the best selection.
    Bruno: 212-717-1170

    Chanel
The temporary shop on Madison Avenue doesn’t currently have air-conditioning but they do have a good selection of sales shoes, which are discounted  40%. There are several sandal and pump styles available with the discount but none of the classic ballet flats are included. If you’re hoping to snag a small accessory or handbags on sale, you’re out of luck here. All the discounted bags were sold out on the first day of the sale.
    John: 212-535-5505

    Derek Lam
While the sales area at the back of the store has a few racks of discounted ready-to-wear, we were majorly distracted by the plentiful selection handbags and shoes which are also heavily discounted to 60% off retail. The lightweight oversized knits are especially tempting at under $200.
    Atsuko: 212-493-4454

    Jimmy Choo
While sizes and selection are dwindling, the upstairs part of the boutique has two full walls of summer sandals, heels and flats priced at 50% off. There are also a couple of boot styles available at the sale price. Our favorite sale shoes are the wedges, which now run between $200 and $350 depending on style.
    Heather: 212-759-7078

    J. Mendel
The exclusive furrier does not have any of their luxurious fur coats included in their 40% to 60% off sale. Instead, you can score some unique and beautiful fur shrugs and caplets for 60% off the $3900 retail prices. Head upstairs for the sale section, and be sure to check out some of the exquisitely tailored dresses too.
    Angellique: 212-832-5830

    Oscar de la Renta
While the sales racks are not marked, a helpful sales associates will gladly help you sort through ladylike dresses, separates, shoes and costume jewelry that are now 40% off. If you don’t see your size you you can likely have a your sized pulled from the stock room. This sale will likely go through the end of the month and we would expect an additional markdown shortly.
    Nancie: 212-288-5810

    Roberto Cavalli
All merchandise upstairs is now 60% off retail, including lots of his famous silk printed dresses perfect for a weekend in the Hamptons. There are also some lovely evening gowns, formal dresses included and casual summer dresses included in the sale.

    Shopping Woodbury Common July 4th

Independence day is almost here, which usually means major outlet reductions. We started snooping around Woodbury Common and found that many of our favorite outlet stores are adding extra discounts to lure customers. Don’t worry if your plans don’t include driving an hour north to go shopping. Most stores are willing to ship merchandise. Prada and Valentino seem to be the only exceptions. Both stores will not ship during a holiday weekend but are more than happy to send merchandise starting Thursday.

    Bottega Veneta
We are told that there is a very good selection of shoes and ready-to-wear from the spring/summer 20011 collection, which are additional 60% off for the holiday. Items from the fall/winter 2011 collection are extra 20% off. Select style bags are an extra 30% off. There are no woven style bags included in the extra markdowns.
    845-928-4563

    Chloe
The entire store is an additional 20% off for the weekend (except for classic style bags, of course.) The clothing collection is a bit sparse but the savings are huge. The total markdown, including the extra 20%, comes out to almost 90%. If you are looking ahead to fall the store already has a small selection of items from pre-fall 2011.
    845-928-6260

    Etro
The Etro outlet is offering customers an extra 50% off almost everything from the summer 2011. Men’s suits are an additional 25% off and sports jackets are an extra 50%. The only items not included in the holiday promotional markdown are men’s and women’s tailored shirts. We suggest checking out the women’s shoe collection. The styling is original and they aren’t overexposed like other brands.
    845-928-9256

    Prada
Prada has become a lot more conservative with their markdowns. Clothing and shoes are just an additional 30% off. That’s on top of the basic 40% outlet discount. Small accessories, handbags and Prada sport merchandise are not included in the additional markdown.
    845-928-7415

    Valentino
The spring and summer collection from 2011 is an extra 50% off. Day bags are cut an additional 20% and clutches are an extra 50% off. Unfortunately, there are no shoes included in the holiday markdown.
    845-928-0820

    YSL
Ready-to-wear from the most recent collection is an additional 20% off. Shoes are also an additional 20% discount. Don ‘t get too excited, there are no handbags or Tribute sandals or shoes included in the promotional markdown.

Dolce & Gabbana Friends and Family

We just received intelligence that Dolce & Gabbana will be hosting a private friends and family sale, which will drop the discount on most summer merchandise to 60% off. The sale will start Thursday and run through the weekend.

The current Dolce discount is 40% off but many department stores marked down similar merchandise to 60% last week. Essentially, this friends and family sale is a private second seasonal markdown.

Our best Dolce friends and family purchases was a classic leopard print tote bag. It works wonderfully as a beach bag. It’s light and versatile and classic enough to use for many summer seasons.

    Century 21 Sale Time

    By ManhattanMataHari
Discount shoppers will thrilled to learn that Century 21 is now having their summer clearance event. While promotions boast savings up to 75% off their normal prices, we found most designer clothing to be discounted 25% to 50% off Century’s normal discount.

We headed Downtown to the discounter’s “flagship” store and were rather pleased with the assortment of sale inventory and prices. Merchandise from Italian design houses were most plentiful and seemed to have the best discounts with a 50% cut. Other designers were either 1/3-off or 25% off Century 21’s already discounted prices.

It appears as if Dolce & Gabanna enthusiasts will make out best. Many of their sexy dresses are priced around $250 and corset tops are $150. In fact, most of the designer dresses from the likes of Alberta Ferretti, Rochas, Salvatore Ferragamo, Moschino, Derek Lam and Chloe ranged from $100 to $300.

The majority of the most desirable clothing on sale was limited to dresses, while many of the separates were in rough shape and largely unappealing styles. However, we were a bit shocked to find a boxy Chloe cropped leather jacket reduced to a mere $166! (Even the See by Chloe label prices a cropped leather jacket for nearly $1000.)

Be sure to browse the racks of designer outerwear, which are all 50% off. We found amazing classic Jil Sander trenches, Dolce Gabanna and Jason Wu woolen numbers priced between $250 to $350. A quick sweep of the wall racks may also be in order since most of the diffusions lines like McQ, Just Cavalli and Vivienne Westwoord Anglomania are hanging at half off.

Over in the shoe department there is a great selection of designer footwear included in the markdown. Most shoes are now an extra 25% off. Our favorite finds were the $199 Chloe leather wedges but a Ferragamo version is a budget steal at $99. While not on sale, we couldn’t help but notice the abundance of Tory Burch shoes, including their flower ballet espadrille flats for $80 and green leather Reva-esque wedges for $150. While the shoe section is usually hit or miss, the prospect of finding discounted Manolos and Casadei pumps is worth the extra effort.
