I Spy: A Private Moda Operandi Sale

It’s hard not to faun over the selection of luxury online retailer Moda Operandi. The site specializes in allowing customers to pre-order fashion from the time they are shown on the runway but they also have a great selection of current merchandise. Right now, the site is hosting a private sale where a wonderful assortment of spring merchandise is 50% off.

To access the private sale you must register with the site and use this link. If you’re still having issues you can call or email customer service to have the discount applied to your shopping cart. The best part of the sale is that these items are more highly discounted here than any place else — online or offline. Did we mention that all of the orders are returnable too?

During a not-so-quick shopping spree, we nabbed a perfect-in-every-way Prabal Gurung drop wasted dress for about $1600 from approximately $3200. Opening Ceremony cat-eye sunglasses are about $80 from $165, a Clover Canyon print summer dress is $125 from $250 and this figure perfecting one shoulder bathing suit from Adriana Degreas is about $150 from $305. If you’re ready to max out the Amex go for this Valentino tulle dress with silver beading for about $5000 from about $10-grand.

Really, Moda Operandi’s assortment is so wonderful  that more is just never enough. Have fun and remember to email customer service if you have problems accessing the sale!

    Shopping the Meatpacking Markdowns

    By ManhattanMataHari

Many of the downtown — Meatpacking– boutiques just started markdowns. We went to check out what is available and what discounts are still coming.

    Jeffrey
We always start our downtown shopping trip with a stop at Jeffery. Passing through the left side of the shoe area are the freshly marked down shoes. We spotted some $695 Nicholas Kirkwood suede smoking slippers for $487, $1295 Charlotte Olympia crystal-embellished platform heels for $907, and $675 Balenciaga wedges for $473. You will also find Proenza Schouler sandals, Prada pumps and Miu Miu suede peep toes all 30% off retail. Don’t expect to find the Louboutin, Chanel or Alaia heels on markdown for another two weeks. Also not on sale: Saint Laurent shoes, and we were also informed the Tributes are going to be discontinued and may not go on sale. On the ready-to-wear sales racks you also won’t find any Chanel or Alaia yet, but there are some nice dresses 30% off retail by Erdem, Proenza, JW Anderson, and Marni. Our favorite picks were a $1450 Missoni signature print dress for $1015 and Thakoon print dresses. There are also some nice fall-ready Altuzarra separates.

There are two display cases replete with their signature skull clutches for a 30% cut, while day bags are discounted 40%. Scarves and flat shoes are also 30% off, with some cute $645 skull thongs for $464. High heels have a better reduction at 40%. While they seem to have very few small and larger sizes, the store is well stocked in most styles in sizes 37 through 38.5. There is also larger selection of sale racks of ready-to-wear marked down 40%.

    Catherine Malandrino
While there is no presale, this weekend on Saturday they will be marking down yellow label spring designs in lots of bright colors and flowy fabrics 40% off retail. There are lots of sizes in the back.  There are  none of the black label items like the standout laser cut leather dresses included in this markdown.
    Jose: (212) 929-8710

    Jay Godfrey
Get Hamptons ready with fun printed silk dresses for 30% to 40% off. Their maxi dresses should be a staple in every summer wardrobe; our favorite print version was $266 from $380.
    Siguel: (212) 706-8342

    Marni Edition
Marni’s casual offshoot Edition label is priced about 25% less than the collection label and is now marked down 30%. Most of the women’s clothing is included in the sale. We couldn’t help but notice the great summer abstract prints and a fab $2420 short cream leather trench for $1694.
    Kenny: (646) 442-6015

    Nicholas Kirkwood
If you’re looking for an utterly unique pair of heels, head to the designer’s salon for the most eccentric and avant-garde styles the department store buyers tend to avoid. Presale will begin after the first week in June and will start with a 30% cut.
    Marell: (646) 559-5239

    Ports 1961

    Ports 1961

    Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale

Nordstrom may not reside on Madison Avenue and not even in Manhattan but that won’t be the case for long. The national department store, which is coming to NY in just a few short years, is renowned for their wonderful customer service but we know them better for their wonderful markdowns. Right now designer clearance is priced up to 40% off retail. This includes bags, shoes and accessories but not Chanel and Louboutin– yet!

We clickety clicked over to Nordstrom to see what’s available online as part of their big markdown. We love these Jimmy Choo Willow ballerina flats ($330 from $550) because they are a great transition piece into summer and again into fall. At Saks, the same shoes are $385.

There is no shortage of Herve Leger dresses marked 40% off but we prefer Yigal Azrouël’s body con dresses if you’re looking for form fitting with more urban style. We’ve also been eyeing this Mary Katrantzou print dress ($695 from $1160) since the beginning of the season and Nordstrom currently has the best price. Net-A-Porter has the dress marked $731.

Although these items were all less expensive at Nordstrom you still have to shop around because the pendulum tends to swing in all directions. We’ll be sure to watch which way it swings all season long.

No DVF Sample Sale this Season

The Diane von Furstenberg sample sale is normally a favorite among sale shoppers but this season it seems as if it just ain’t happening. That means no $50 sample sale rack, no $150 dresses and no additional markdowns. Organizers of the sale say that a date was never set and a press representative for DVF told us that there is nothing in the planning stages.

Those of you have stashed away for the DVF sale should not fret Racked NY has a list of almost 30 sales for the month of June. Just remember,  not sample sales offer great deals. Below is a short list of upcoming sales that we would consider worthy of our time and (some) money.

    Rodarte
    Saturday, June 1
    By appointment: andy@rodarte.net
    Ace Hotel 38 West 39th Street (b/w 5th & 6th Ave)
Commentary: Expect to find the obvious dress that’s $4800 reduced to $1200 but there is also usually a selection of clothing in those with a more temperate budget. Last season we found clothing was priced between $200 and $500, shoes ranged from $150 to $350 and bags were about $200ish.

    Helmut Lang
Sunday, June 2 through Wednesday, June 5
    Sun 10am— 6pm, Mon 11am—8pm, Tues—Wed 11am—7pm
    Clothingline, 261 W. 36th St between 7th & 8th Aves, 2nd fl
Commentary: Prices are marked up to 60% off, which isn’t necessarily epic. The biggest draw is always the leather jackets, which were priced at $475 from about $1000. Basic tops and dresses, which are always a great staple were priced at $95. Tees were $55, but we prefer the Gap for $10. Helmut Lang fans could also check out Net-a-Porter, where a great variety of merchandise is discounted 50%.

    La Perla
Sunday, June 9 through Thursday, June 13
    Sun 1pm—5pm, Mon—Thurs 11am—7pm
    225 Fifth Avenue between 26th & 27th St
Commentary: The sale will include nightwear, swimwear and clothing that will be discounted up to 80% off. At the last sale La Perla & Black Label collections were priced $80 for bras, $50 for undies, $110 for babydolls and $130 for gowns and silk robes. One piece bathing suits were $110 and bikini’s were 90%.

    Celine Markdown 40% Off

Presale at Celine boutiques will start this Thursday and the sale will officially go public on June 4. The markdown will be 40% on clothing and select shoes. The brand’s popular bags and leather goods are usually not included in any discount or sale promotion.

Celine normally represents an ideal where women don’t make fashion errors. This collection had many customers scratching their heads as it was filled with questionable fashion statements. We don’t see this collection flying off the racks even at a 50% cut. You can pretty much bet that the sale will include those furry stilettos that come in blue, red, lilac and yellow. And those Phoebe Philo fur lined versions of Birkenstocks are more fitting for the eccentric billionaire.

    Tom Ford Pre-Sale

The presale at Tom Ford started today. Men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories are now 50% off. The sale officially opens to the public Tuesday but it’s never too early to get the ultimate in hot-sexy-luxury for half-off.

One of the helpful sales associates hooked us up with a virtual catalogue of the bags on sale. You can click here to start browsing. They stock lists just came in so it may take a bit if time until a sales associates can add photos of clothing and shoes that are included in the markdown.
