The Down Low on Department Store Sales

This week, mark the official start of discount season. Almost all designer brands are on the sale list. (Chanel and Louboutin are still the exceptions.) At all of our department stores, fall and winter clothing is discounted 40% off but the prices of shoes and handbags vary greatly.

Take note, some boutiques offer even lower discounts than the department store. For instance, Tom Ford and Prada are both offering customers a 50% savings. Below is a comparison chart of Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks. Take note, online discounts are the same as the stores.

Warm-Up Sample Sale: White + Warren

As the days are getting shorter and the weather is cooler, it’s just natural to feel the need to snuggle up with cashmere. We couldn’t think of a better way to stock up on cold-weather warmth than at the White + Warren sample sale.

Get Shoes at TheOutnet Clearance Sale

TheOutnet is hosting their bi-annual clearance sale and a wide assortment of designer goodies are reduced 85% off. We spent some time browsing through the site and were rather impressed by the great looking shoes that were included in the clearance promotion.

Check out these Pierre Hardy color blocked lace-ups that are $265 from $1325. Rick Owens leather wedge sandals are a steal at $367 from over $1300 and these quirky Charlotte Olympia platforms are $295 from $1475.

The selection outside the show department is a bit light but we did find a striking Erdem velvet print gown for $631 from $3155, an adorable Marni color blocked poplin dress is $170 from $1372 and a Matthew Williamson romper is $159 from $795.

The sale runs for another five days but suggest shopping the sale sooner rather than later. With these types of discounts it’s not surprising that merchandise and sizes are going very quickly.

Inside the Yigal Azrouel Sample Sale

Yigal Azrouel has quickly become one of our favorite designers. His clothing is edgy and youthful without looking overdone or overly-sexy. This season’s sample sale doesn’t start until Tuesday but we couldn’t help ourselves from spying a day early– and we are sure glad we did.

Last year, the sample sale was held at the designer’s boutique in Soho but this season shoppers will need to head to the company’s showroom, in the garment district, to shop for coveted Yigal and Cut25. Sample prices are the most attractive but there is only one of each item and the best merchandise was being snatched up by employees. We grabbed this Cut25 blouse for $40 from $310 along with an all black version of this jacket for $40 from $495. A Yigal bodycon dress was $60 and the designer’s high-end leather skirt was $125. All Yigal samples are $60 and Cut25 samples are $40. Leather Cut25
samples are $90 and Yigal leather samples are $125.

While there is less open stock than last season, there are still lots of great items from which to choose. One of the hottest items was this shearling and leather combo coat that was priced at $500 from $2900. This Yigal Azrouel leather-panel pencil skirt was $150 from $590 and Cut25 sweaters were $100. Yigal blouses and tops are $125 and Cut25 blouses and tops are $100. Full pricing details are in the image to the left. (Click on the picture to enlarge)

In addition to all the women’s finds, there are also a few racks of men’s clothing.  Today, there were hardly any men shopping but there are bound to be more tomorrow. Women should take note that there is no dressing room. We suggest dressing in sample sale attire or leggings and a tank for optimal modesty. Cyber Monday: Moda Operandi, Intermix & Yoox

Most stores have now taken a markdown on their fall and winter merchandise. Finding the best deals, however, is not always the easiest job. In honor of Cyber Monday, many online companies are offering extra shopping incentives to get you surfing and purchasing on their sites. Below are a few of the best designer deals we found:

    Moda Operandi
The exclusive online site is known best for their pre-season trunk show sales and just-off-the-runway looks. We happen to like the site’s non-preorder boutique best. The merchandise is curated flawlessly and not only from the regular designer suspects.  What’s even better, is Moda Operandi is reducing all pre-fall and fall designer merchandise by 40%, starting Monday. Be sure to check out this Kule herringbone coat with fox collar that was $695, the pop-art hand-beaded bag from Sara’s Bag that was $980 and Tabitha Simmons floral print pumps that were originally marked $925.

    Intermix
Designer merchandise is discounted 40% off and for Cyber Monday shoppers can save an additional 40% for a total savings of 70% off. A Missoni fit and flare black dress is under $1000 from $2225, Barbara Bui leather skinny pants in ox blood are $480 from $1355 and Surgio Rossi classic leather booties are about $420 from $995. Don’t worry if you don’t see your additional discount immediately in your shopping cart. The additional 40% comes off once you enter your credit card information in the checkout page.

    Yoox
The international online retailer is blowing out select winter merchandise at 50% off and through Monday shoppers can use the code THANKYOOX and save an additional 15% off. These Giuseppi Zanotti high boots come out to just $336 from $825, this dramatic red Marni cape comes to $587 from $1390 and this adorable Love Moschino tote bag is $67 from $135.

Thanksgiving: Online Sales to Feast On

There’s no better way to digest your turkey than to surf the web shopping. Although Black Friday is the most hyped shopping day of the season, it’s not known to offer the highest discounts. Below are a few Black Friday sales that are worth your attention.

    Net-A-Porter
Now, some of the best fashion merchandise on the web is reduced 50%. Sophia Webster booties are about $300 from $600, a Charlotte Olympia Pandora clutch is $462 from $953 and a Barth silk-satin and jacquard coat from The Row is $1975 from $3750.

    Nordstrom
Although there isn’t a Nordstrom on the city (yet) they seem to be offering the best discount on designer shoes and accessories. Saint Laurent Chain Booties are $836 from about $1400, a cross body bag from Alexander Wang is $476 from about $800 and an Alexander McQueen dress is $1430 from $2385.

    Tag Heur
The watch brand is hosting an online friends and family sale that runs though Monday. Watches are discounted up to 60% off. You can access the sale by logging onto lvmhpartners.com and using the access key aquaracer2013. A Carrera Calibre 16 Heritage Chronograph with a leather strap is $3000 from $4600, a red-faced Formula 1 Quartz Chronograph is $800 from $1700 and a Aquaracer 500M is $1700 from $3100.

    Scoop NYC
Shoppers can save 25% off in store and online. Take note, the only women’s exclusions to the markdown are Alaia, Missoni, Jimmy Choo and Chloe. So that means you can apply the discount to Moncler (only in stores). This promotion can also be used on already reduced items. The sale runs though Sunday, December 1st. Online we found this print Helmut Lang print dress that’s now $232 from $520 . Stuart Weitzman knee high platform boots are $276 from $610 and these AG corduroy jeans are $74 from about $170.

Valentino, Tom Ford & Gucci 80% Off

The Internet is full of discount shopping destinations but few offer really wonderful designer merchandise at great prices. That is, until the launch of Amuze. This online flash sale site and boutique offers a varsity of merchandise from the most exclusive fashion designers and prices up to 90% off retail.

Lets take a look: Right now, the site is hosting a Valentino sale. Black Rockstud platforms are $275 from $845 and python versions are $425 from $1400. In the boutique section, you will find Tom Ford pumps for $255 from $870, YSL Tribtoos are $315 from almost $800 and a variety of elegant Valentino dresses priced 80% off retail. In addition, the site also includes a variety of handbags, shoes, accessories and clothing from Gucci, Marchesa, Judith Leiber, Chloe and more.

Seems good? We agree. But the deal gets better. For Black Friday, Amuze will add new inventory and items will be priced even better. As a matter of fact, Madison Avenue Spy readers can use the code “givethanks” at checkout and receive $50 off your purchase. The post-Thanksgiving sale beings at 10pm on Thursday night and will run until Monday at noon.

So, gobble … gobble… gobble and rest assured that this type of of consumption will not add a millimeter to your waiste line.

Presales: Prada, Miu Miu, Tom Ford & Vivier

It’s time to unplug the computer and put the Turkey aside. Prada, Miu Miu, Tom Ford and Roger Vivier are all hosting great private sales. All of the boutiques open their discounts to the public after Thanksgiving, but why wait when you have the inside scoop? Details are below. Don’t forget to tent the bird.

    Prada
Clothing and select shoes are discounted 50% off. Seasonal style bags and accessories are discounted 40%. For winter, Prada’s bag collection consisted of bowling bags in a variety of materials. One bag looks like a winter puffer jacket, another is a tweed and others jacquard check prints. Prada’s ready-to-wear consists of some of the brand’s greatest hits and is a true crowd pleaser.

    Miu Miu
The Miu Miu discounts are the same as Prada. Clothing and shoes are 50% off and bags are 40% off. This season’s collection was playful with a capital “P.” Polka-dotted neckerchiefs, jackets with a double sailor collar and stripy stockings remind us of a true fashion personality.
    Larena: (212) 641-2980

    Tom Ford
We love Tom Ford and we love his sales. Seasonal merchandise is a straight 50% off. Some of our favorite pieces are the heels with heavy gold zippers and Tom’s moto jacket, of course. The sale officially goes public December 2 but presale shoppers can take their merchandise home immediately.
    Veronica: (212) 359-0300

    Roger Vivier
Select shoes and bags are discounted 30% to 40% off. Unlike most other private sales, this one can be a bit difficult. The company requires that you have purchased an item at full price, at the boutique, before allowing you to participate in the markdown. Sometimes you can find an extra friendly sales person but we wouldn’t suggest calling the boutique for an order if you are not a regular customer.
