    Saks Gives 25% Off Kids’

Most children are already back to school but keeping your kids suited up with everything they need is practically a full time job. If you don’t want to spend your full salary, you might want to head over to Saks Fifth Avenue.

Right now, the department store is hosting a sale where you can 25% off an assortment of merchandise. We even found some merchandise already reduced with an additional 25% off discount. Unfortunately, designer brands– Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Chloe, Gucci et al.– are not included in the promotion.

While browsing through what is including in the sale, we found a 7 for All Mankind denim jacket that is $45 from $60, a long ADD down coat is now $220 from almost $300 and a girl’s long-sleeve tee from DKNY is $19 from $26. We were surprised to find this Dolce & Gabbana floral and dot dress from the Summer that’s now reduced to $230 from $465.

The discount is available in stores and online but only runs through Monday, September 21. Just remember, it never hurts to think ahead and plan for birthday gifts and parties.

    Athleta Offers Shoppers 70% Off

Athleta took a while to catch it’s groove. The Gap’s athletic wear concept is now taking marketshare away from industry giant Lululemon. As Lululemon’s patterns and color palates have taken a dive off the deep-end, Athleta has been developing a look that balances sporty with urban sophistication.

The best part about Athleta is their bi-annual sales. Right now, shoppers can save an extra 20% off sale items for a total savings of about 60% off. Just use the SALE20 code at checkout. A lot of the merchandise is from the past Summer collection but there are a lot of items that are perfect to wear now. This jacket comes to $40 from $98, head this way to see a different zippy jacket that comes to $38 from $118 and a down metallic jacket is just $75 from almost $200.

Over in the pants section there are these yoga leggings with a tuxedo stripe for about $30 from $80. These Power Lift tights are my favorite for running outside in (or taking the kids to school) winter because they are lined in fleece. They are now $28 from $95. These basic capri leggings are also $38 from $80. The sale also includes a large assortment of tanks, tops and dresses.

While you’re shopping don’t miss the Athleta collaboration with Derek Lam. We especially adore the color blocked tops and leather jacket.

This extra 20% off promotion runs through Monday. We suggest you shop right away because the next discount like this won’t happen until after Christmas.

    The Stylish Hostess: Kim Kushner

It sometimes takes a new season to get us thinking about how fashion works its way into other segments of our lives. From fashion to food to home design to hostessing, we are always looking to be inspired.

Leave it to food author, Kim Kushner’s newest book, ‘The New Kosher‘, to bring a new twist to fresh and simple. Despite the book’s title, kosher is not the main theme. Kim’s recipes are healthy, seasonal, and hearty but they are also easy and always have lots of of texture.

Like a great Prada piece, Kim suggests recipes that are as classic and playful as a trench coat with a jeweled collar. For example, the author suggests mixing panko with cornflake crumbs and adding a bit of lemon zest and sun-dried tomatoes to make a perfect breading for fish or chicken. The result is flavorful and wonderfully crunchy. Roasting small potatoes with za’atar spices adds an unexpected mouth watering explosion. Using Herbs de Provence on thinly shaved and roasted butternut squash yields a chip that is the food equivalent of a Valentino Rockstud pump– delicate with a bit of attitude.

We couldn’t help ourselves from exploring the connection to simple food and wonderful style. When asking Kim about cooking and fashion she remarked, “I like to wear skinny jeans, a white t-shirt and lots of gold bracelets on most days. The food I cook also reflects who I am. I like simple foods with a little punch or spice.” Continue below to see more about fashion, shopping and cooking with Kim Kushner:

How do you think cooking style and fashion style relate to one another?
I think the connection between cooking and fashion is very personal. Each person may relate differently. For me, the same way I take risks in the kitchen, I also do in fashion. I love trying the new food trends– as I do fashion trends. Color is everything to me– both when it comes to food and fashion. Everyone can pull off a little black dress, just like anyone could pull off white rice. I always seek out intense spices and bold flavors just like I always look for statement jewelry. Most of all, I think food should be fun, just like fashion.

What ingredients are worth a big spurge?
Splurge on seasonal items, like peak season fruits and vegetables, and on classics like, a good olive oil and wine.

    Are there foods that clash?
Yes, there are foods that clash. You can’t put too many strong flavored dishes in one meal. I wouldn’t serve curry with merguez– its just too much. Sort of like a dark lip and a smoky eye. The combo is too heavy. [Editorial note: Merguez is a spicy kosher sausage.]

What are some of the big food trends?
It’s all about health these days- kale, quinoa, juices.

    Noteworthy Beauty Launches

Fall is a great time to look at your beauty regimen and shake it up a little and beauty companies love releasing their new products with the change of season.

Before we call out some of the hottest new launches take note that we are seeing a big shift in the beauty industry. Conturing has been replaced by flushed pink blush, red lips dominate in every shade and hue and black eye-liner is a must have from dramatic lines to thick and heavy or just a light smudge. It also seems as if every cosmetic line is now offering a matte lipstick option. We just don’t know if we are ready to give up our glossy pout.

Below are a few new releases to help you accomplish a full beauty makeover or just a light touchup:

    Christian Louboutin Lipstick
At $90 a pop it’s hard to justify the splurge but it’s Christian Louboutin, ladies. On the bright side, the lipstick is a wearable charm. Seems a little gimmicky but I wouldn’t mind having a few hanging off my vanity. The lipsticks come in 36 shades and three finishes–Silky Satin, Velvet Matte, and Sheer Voile. Silky Satin collection, which offers a medium-to-full-coverage lip color with a satin finish and hint of shine. The full collection is carried at most premium department stores and Sephora.

    Charotte Tilbury Magic Foundation
If you’re not already hooked on everything Charlotte Tilbury offers then you have to try her products. The celebrity make-up artist launched her collection just a year ago and is already dominating the contents of fashion junkie’s cosmetic bags. For Fall Charlotte is offering her signature Light Wonder foundation. The product is an air-light formula that illuminates, smoothes, hydrates, minimizes pores and reduces wrinkles for perfect skin. Perfect skin? We’ll drink to that– water, of course. The foundation line already launched in the UK and we are told that it’s coming soon the US. The complete Charlotte Tilbury line is available locally at Bergdorf Goodman.

    Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Tint-in-Oil
Fashion is always about extremes and if you’re not opting for matte lipstick you might want to go in a different direction with tinted oil. The company’s new technology, Color Link Infuser, brings together pigments with five nourishing oils –apricot kernel, macadamia seed, coriander fruit, jojoba seed, and passion flower, What’s amazing is the color doesn’t separate in the tube. The result is sheer and gorgeous, while the formula makes lips feel super soft without any stickiness. The oils are available at department stores nation wide and Sephora.

Dior Pastel Eyes Multi-Wear Adhesive Eyeliner Patches
Seems like we’ve been living a life with naked eyes. Dior is now offering the opporuntity for us to cloth our peepers. The laser-cut satin patches adhere to the top lid of the eye. The best part is that they won’t smear or fade. The only problem is that they only come in pastel colors and won’t be out until February 1.

Loisaviaroma Slashes Prices to 75% Off

International luxury shopping site, Luisaviaroma is hosting a sale were most Summer merchandise is already discounted 50% and then they are offering another 30% off for a total savings of 75%.

This ruffled Givenchy ruffled cotton shirt was originally $990 and is reduced to $300 but comes to just about $200 with the extra discount. That discount is closer to 80% off but there aren’t many of those. This House of Holland ‘Bag of Crap’ comes to $116 from $334 and a Rick Owens strapless dress is $550 from $1570.

What we love most about this site is that there are lots of items and brands that never made it to retailers in the US. Check out this Marco de Vincenzo dress or this I’m Isola Marras shirt dress.

Enjoy shopping in Europe without the jet lag!

The IT-it: Turning Heads at Fashion Week

Welcome to unofficial Fall. We kindly ask you to ignore the 90-degree temperatures and focus your attention on more important things like preparing for Fashion Week.

When preparing for the perfect off-the-runway look, you’re going to need to get very creative if you’re going to attract any attention. The tents (et al.) are the big leagues. A Celine luggage tote is not going to turn heads. In order show off your fashion prowess we suggest channeling brands that haven’t been over exposed in magazines and on Instagram. Below are our favorite undiscovered brands. We promise that any of these items will cause an onlooker to gasp whether you’re are kissing a Haddad sister or grabbing a cappuccino at Sant Ambroeus.

    READYMADE
    @readymade_official: 2809
Where to buy: Hirschliefers (Long Island) 516-627-3566

Yuta Hosokawa’s Readymade is based out of Osaka, Japan and is destined to become some of the most coveted merchandise by hip-anista. Most of the merchandise is made from vintage US army duffle bags and everything is made in limited runs. We’ve been trying to contact the company to get a Birkin-like bag with graffiti but were told that they weren’t being produced. We suggest you contact Hirschleifers if you are trying to get anything from Readymade as they seem to have the most reliable communications with the brand.

    Dax Gabler
    @daxgabler_: 1892
    Were to buy: Barneys
Devi Kroll was well known for her namesake label’s artisanal-crafted, exotic skin accessories and shoes. When the designer split from her label we were afraid that the CFDA award winning designer would call it quits. We are happy to share that Devi Kroll has just launched an amazing line of sunglasses under the brand of Dax Gabler. The shades are all handmade in Cortina D’Ampezzo and come in eye-popping hues and shapes. We couldn’t imagine a better way to enjoy the last official days of summer while celebrating Fall.

    Candamill
    Where to buy: candamill.com
    @candamill: 2501
Can you remember the first time you saw the clean and minimalistic lines of a Celine Luggage Tote? The unique silhouette and understated gold embossed logo made our knees go weak. That doesn’t happen every day and you know you need an item badly when it causes such a physical response. That’s the way we felt when we saw the Candamill Russ Combo Tote. The bag comes in black matte or suede. Now that you’ve seen it, your heart will skip a beat any time you see one not on your own arm. This is sure to be the next IT bag and we suggest you get it now before the price goes up and there is a waiting list. The brand’s other bags are pretty show stopping too.

    Pre-Labor Day Sales

There are only a few more rays of sunshine left until the unofficial end of Summer uses her claw-like fingers to throw us back into reality. Lucky for us, there are still a few days to catch up on those things we’ve been meaning to do and buy all Summer.

As a personal rule, I like to try and fill in the items that I’ll need for next summer (or vacation) right now, while the prices are low and the discounts are high. The best part is that I am really in touch with what’s missing from and needed for my wardrobe. By the time Summer ’16 rolls around I will be secure in knowing that I have everything I need and won’t feel guilty for indulging in a few new trends and impulse purchases.

Below is a list of some of the most noteworthy pre-labor day sales. Keep checking back as more promotions are added to the list:

    Alice & Olivia
Each season Stacey Bendet makes this collection stronger and more irresistible. Right now, there are some great items on the site that are reduced up to 70% off. This watercolor halter maxi dress is now $280 from $700 and this sunflower print shorts and blouse are sure to make your mood brighter even during winter.

    Banana Republic
Save 40% off using the code BRFALL. Top hits this season include, lots of wine colored basics and fashion blogger styled parkas and distressed jeans. Sale ends 9/8.

    Gap
Everything from Gap is 40% off. They mean EVERYTHING. There are no exclusions. This is a great opportunity to get your kids the uniform items you’ve been procrastinating about buying. You can also stock up on basics for yourself too. The store is also offering “Gap Cash”– when you spend $50 you earn a $25 gift card to be used later. (Personally, I always forget to use them.) Sale ends 9/7.

    J. Crew
You can save 30% off most items when you spend $125 or more. Final sale merchandise is an extra 50% off and normal sale merchandise is 30% off. Use the code GETSHOPPING at checkout. Some top picks include these Illesteva mirrored sunglasses and lots of final sale collection cashmere sweaters that come to under $75.

    Milly
You can now save an extra 25% on already reduced prices for a total savings of about 70% off. Use the code LABORDAY15 at checkout. A floral print dress is $170, after the additional discount, from just about $400 and this Milly Minis dress is $75 from almost $200. Sale ends 9/7.

    Shopbop
There is no additional discounts on Shopbop but the site added a bunch of new merchandise to their sale section. The new sale items include lots of denim brands like J. Brand, 7s and Frame.

    Williams Sonoma Closing Sale

The Williams Sonoma store on 59th Street and Lexington is closing. We are told that everything in store is 40% off.

The sale started yesterday and a tipster said that the store is still very well stocked. Williams Sonoma is best known for their upscale housewares with upscale brands such as All Clad, Kitchen Aid, Nespresso and Cuisinart.

Many of the brands found in Williams Sonoma are difficult to find discounted, so saving 40% is a good deal. Discounts usually tend to get better as an actual closing date approaches. We just don’t think that there will be much desirable merchandise left as the sale continues– even at this discount level.

The New York Post reported in June that the national chain would not be renewing its lease. Prior to Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma the space was occupied by the famed Fiorucci. It’s reported that the asking rent is now $400 per foot for the ground floor, which is about half of what rents are on Lexington.

One could only hope that the Fiorucci brand could be resurrected. Hipsters could get schooled in the world language of parachute pants and goomie bracelets. More likely the space will be taken over by an international fashion chain. Is there a Topshop in the neighborhood?
