The Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale is back. This is Nordstrom’s biggest sale of the year. The discount is 40% off most all Spring and Summer merchandise. Take note, the sale only runs through June 4.
Some items may not be discounted as much as other department stores but some brands are reduced even more. Nordstrom is also notorious for price matching. If you see an item priced less at another store make sure to contact customer service and Nordstrom will match the price in most situations.
It’s sale season-cum-Summer and just because everyone has headed out of town, doesn’t mean the discount hunt comes to an end. So while you’re sipping your rosé, you can browse the hottest sale items on the internet.
You can scroll through the slideshow below to see some of the most wanted sale items and find a full list of available holiday weekend discounts. As always, shoes and handbags are a hot commodity but uptown girls will never underestimate the value of a great dress.
Much of the seasonal merchandise in department stores and online retailers are on sale now. At most of our local shopping destinations, spring and summer clothing is discounted 40% off but the prices of shoes and handbags vary.
Some boutiques are offering even lower discounts than the department stores. For instance, Lanvin and Prada are both offering customers a 50% savings. Below is a comparison chart of Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Take note some designers have still haven’t gone on markdown and others, like Louboutin and Valentino, are still on presale. We expect a sale to break on these brands on June 1 but we’ll keep you posted. Saks seems to have the best shoe selection and best discount. Bloomingdales still has an assortment of Gucci shoes discounted 50%. You can click here to see the available styles.
Most stores have already started their first markdowns on contemporary and luxury lines but there are always a few brands that hold off on discounts. Starting Thursday, you will be able to presale seasonal merchandise from Christian Louboutin.
The discount from Saks Fifth Avenue and Barneys is 30% off. We haven’t received details from the Louboutin boutique but will update the post when we do.
The sale officially goes public on May 26. Purchases from most stores will be held until then. A selection of much of what’s on sale is in the scroll above.

It took a few days but Valentino has finally hit the sale racks. The discounts range from 30% to 40% off depending on the item and the season it was released. (Some stores are still showing past season merchandise.) As we suspected, the bag variety is focused on the very expensive embroidered and embellished styles.
Among the discounted shoes are several Rockstud styles. We find that Saks Fifth Avenue has the best selection and best discount at 40% off. Presale is already underway. The sale officially becomes public on June 1. Among the styles on sale are these classic style Rockstuds in blue (Denim), taupe and blush. The point-toe pumps are available in ‘Stone‘ and a burgundy and a variety of d’Orsay styles have also been marked down, including the basic black.
MatchesFashion is likely to take it’s Valentino markdown soon and also has a large assortment. NetaPorter is likely to put the merchandise online after June 1. Neiman Marcus will begin at the same time and the discount will also be 40%.
Net-a-Porter just went live with their Spring season markdowns. Like many other multi-brand stores, the luxury fashion site instituting a designer phase-in program.
The designers that are currently on sale include Balmain, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Lanvin and Stella McCartney. Later this week, you’ll see the sale selections from Off-White, Givenchy, Fendi, older season Gucci and many more. The full designer sale calendar is below.
Net-A-Porter usually doesn’t wait too long for their second markdown. We suspect the next price cut to come on June 7 and prices will drop to up to 60%. We advise that you don’t wait until then if you’re shopping some of the hotter items of the season. We know for sure that items like these Off-White jeans or these miss matched Chloe mules will not make it to the second markdown.
The sale calendar looks something like this… We’ll keep you posted as we see more designers added to the sale.
The current rumors are that Gucci boutiques and certain department stores are going to bypass this season’s markdowns. We can’t say we are very surprised. Last year’s VIP lists upset customers and was a hardship on sales associates. Although it’s a bit harder to find Gucci markdowns we know exactly where to look.
Right now, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales are offering discounts of 50% off on select Gucci items. The available selection is not the most desirable pieces but some are okay and look rather attractive when on sale. There are about six bag styles in the available sale selections. There is this Lady Web that’s $1540 from $2200, which is still available online. There is this GG Supreme top handle bag, which is no longer available online. An Animalier top handle bag is $1788 from $2980 and is still available. Our favorite of the bunch is the Bamboo Shopper bag with the cherry blossom blooms is still available for $1314 from $2190. The GG Continental Wallet is also part of the sale but the discounted version isn’t available online.
The presale becomes official at Bloomingdales on Thursday. We are hoping that’s when the online selection will reflect the discounts too. We’ll keep you posted in the case we hear news about boutique markdowns but we tend to doubt that will happen.
As you’re finalizing your Memorial weekend plans, retailers are beginning to start their seasonal markdowns. The past couple of sale seasons have been peculiar. Frankly speaking, the retail business has been difficult and retailers are trying to figure out how to markdown ‘wisely’.
A honcho at Bergdorf Goodman told us that the store has decided that it will no longer be discounting any Gucci. We hear that this is also the newest policy at Gucci boutiques. We’ll see for how long that policy lasts. After all, old merchandise needs to go somewhere.
Among the items on presale are lots and lots of bags and shoes. This season, Bergdorf Goodman is implementing a phase in system. Over the course of the next few weeks more designer brands will be added to the sale. For now, you can choose from Tom Ford and Saint Laurent, which are both discounted 40%. Most other designer shoes and bags are marked down 30%. The sale officially goes public on Tuesday.
Some of the sale highlights include the Tom Ford Sienna bag in various colors is discounted to $1470 from $2450. The grey is $1350 from $2250 and is quite lovely. The Saint Laurent bag collection isn’t really very good but we have an affinity for this rainbow envelope bag and the Monogram shoulder bag is $1390 from nearly $2000. Here is a Sac Ju Jour in basic black for about $2000n from nearly $2900. The presale also includes Alaia, Alexander McQueen, Anya Hindmarch, Balenciaga, Givenchy and more. (All the sale bags except Givenchy are already discounted online.)
Valentino, The Row and Fendi are part of the next phase. We are expecting to see lots of the seasonal bags included in the markdown like the tribal patterns or ultra-expensive embellished bags. The Fendi bags should run along the same lines with the studded flower bags and some Dotcom bags hitting the sale tables.
Upstairs the shoe presale selection is enormous. There are dozens of Prada styles, rows and rows of Aquazzura.(All the sale shoes are already available online too.) We particularly like these Fendi sandals with studs that are $630 from $900, ruffle suede sandals from Alexandre Birman that are $437 from $625 and Gianvitto Rossi’s block heels are starting to prove to be timeless.
We highly suggest that online shoppers start browsing online now. Most of the products we saw at the store are already discounted online. Once news gets out the best items will be gone very, very, very quickly. Those who prefer to shop at the store can begin by browsing pictures from our shopping trip right here.
