Barneys & Bergdorf Goodman Discounts Hit 60%

It seems as if sale season just started but retailers aren’t wasting any time. Both Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman started their second round of markdowns today. The discounts at both stores top 60% off.

We started the day at Barneys and went directly to the shoe department where we found all discounted shoes reduced 60%. Christian Louboutin only hit the sales racks last week but they still got the extra markdowns. (You can see pictures from our shopping trip right here.)

Some of the most poplular styles include these Aquazzura flats in solid black, Dries Van Noten with interesting heels and Fendi face loafers. Take note, the online assortment is even better than what we saw in the store. The only difference is that we couldn’t find any reduced Louboutin shoes online.

Downstairs, in the Prada section, we found lots of great pieces. That pink lips skirt, we have been coveting all season, is now reduced 60%,along with this printed silk dress. You can see pictures of the Prada sale selection right here. The Off-White selection is disappearing fast. Online you can still find a size range of the stripped jeans and roses styles.

Most of the bags are now reduced 40%. We spotted several Fendi styles, Balenciaga, JW Anderson Pierce bags and lots of Alaia. We can’t say anything in particular was too noteworthy. Again, the options are more plentiful online.

Over at Bergdorf Goodman, the shoe selection is better but the discount isn’t as high. The markdown is just 50% on the second floor. Highlights include a selection of Manolo Hangs pumps, Nicholas Kirkwood Beya loafers, Fendi mules and Miu Miu slides and Balenciaga printed satin booties.

Upstairs we spotted this Delpozo coat that’s now about $1000 from $2600 and this dramatic top/cape/blouse/fabulousness is $880 from $2150. Equal in style and markdown is this Rossie Assouline one-shoulder top that’s $900 from $1500. A Mary Katrantzou optical print dress is $800 from $2000.

Among the bags are still lots of Balenciaga, Tom Ford, Fendi, overpriced Valentino, Anya Hindmarch and Libertine. Most are reduced 50% now.

Between now and the end of the season there are flashes of additional discounts at Bergdorf Goodman. There will be a third markdown at both stores but that won’t happen until July. Don’t worry, it’s not as far away as you think. The days always seem to fly by during Summer.

    Net-A-Porter 2nd Markdown 70% Off

We just got word from a secret source that Net-A-Porter will take their second markdown Thursday morning. The sale includes additional items and brands, as well as, discounts up to 70% off.

    ???? @damselindior

The sale section will now include Brunello Cucinelli, Alaia bags and shoes, Johanna Ortiz and lots of Adidas by Stella McCartney.

The discount is now up to 70% off. We expect that the bags will go very quickly once the discounts top 50% and that a bulk of the shoe section will be reduced to 60% off. We suggest you start organizing your shopping list immediately. Once the sale goes live, the site can come to a crawl as shoppers virtually fight to complete their transactions.

We suspect that the discounts will get even better as the month progresses. Just try not to get too greedy. It’s not worth waiting save 10% and missing the opportunity to buy something you’ve wanted.

Inside the Mara Hoffman Sample Sale

We arrived at the preview of the Mara Hoffman sample sale just minutes before  closing and was surprised to find the space filled with dozens of fully naked women. The setting was made even more awkward by the fact that most of the sales staff are men who were, understandably, trying not to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

The lack of changing room space is reason enough to make sure you dress for this sample sale occasion. We suggest that anyone planning on attending this sale to come prepared wearing a camisole or sports bra with booty shorts or leggings. After all, Mara Hoffman is most known for her flattering swim and beachwear.

Prices are nicely discounted but not more than an end-of-season retail sale. Print and solid bikini tops and bottoms are $40 each, one pieces are $75, embellished bikinis are $50 each for a tops and bottoms and embellished one pieces are $90. Sarongs are $50 each. Among the clothing, maxi dresses are plentiful and priced at $115, jumpsuits are $120 and tops are $55. (You can see pictures and more pricing right over here.)

We didn’t see anything at the sale from this current season’s collection but found many of the items listed in the sale section of the Mara Hoffman website. It appears as if the brand is clearing out it’s warehouse because even an industry expert couldn’t identify a bulk of the merchandise.

The sale also includes a hefty assortment from the designer’s activewear collection. Sports bras are $40, leggings are $60, sweatpants are $70 and sweatshirts are $50. There is even one rack of bridal gowns at the sale. We suppose you can use these gowns as an opportunity to add a wardrobe change during the big day.

Before you head to Soho, we suggest you first look online. Many sites have items priced at about the same if not less. For instance, here is a pair of leggings for $52, this maxi dress is $121 and this one piece bathing suit is $90. We have several more good finds in the scroll above.

We are confident that there will be additional markdowns before the sale ends on Sunday. We will add an update to the top of the post when we we receive additional information.

    Inside the Etro Sample Sale

Update: Prices now reduced to 90% Off retail.

The Etro sample sale opened to the public today. During lunchtime the line to get in was about an hour. Despite the line outside, upstairs wasn’t very crowded but the wait to checkout was excruciating.

Inside the sale, everything is 80% off. The room is divided equally between men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories. A majority of the merchandise is a range of skirts, coats, dresses and pants. There are a few tables of shoes decided by style, a few scarves still waiting to be purchased and a handful of bags and other small accessories. The tables in the center of the room are covered in an assortment of sweaters divided by size.

As expected, the assortment is plentiful. The ethos of Etro offers a mature and heavy esthetic that translates better during winter months. The most ornate and elaborate items seemed the most attractive but the retail prices on such items can easily range up to $10,000.

A Mongolian fur jacket is about $1000 from over $5000, a purple leather jacket is $572 from $2860, a fox fur jacket is comes to about $1600 and a jeweled dress is just above $800 from $4100. Some less expensive items include a light Spring silk coat is $552 from over $2700, suede ankle boots are $284 from $1420 and a plaid wool coat is about $470 from $2370. You can see lots of pictures in the jump or shop the items above for similar discounts.

Along the men’s side of the sale there are tables of color polos, shirts and sweaters. The colors come to about $50 after the discount and the men’s button downs range from $80 to about $120. If you’re shopping for your man, be sure to take note of his European sizing. Etro tends to run small and it’s always a shame to be stuck with items that don’t fit.

There are fitting rooms at the back of the sale but that’s another line. Speaking of which, the checkout desk was disaster when we were trying to leave. There were only three cashiers and each customer had a pile of purchases that they were sorting through, deciding on and one women was repeatedly running back to the racks and shopping as the line continued to grow.

We happened to like the assortment of men’s merchandise more than what we saw for ourselves. The prints and colors were a bit heavy for a Spring-time optimist. We also have a feeling there will be a markdown before the sale ends on Wednesday. It might be worth the secondary trip if there is another markdown. We’ll keep you posted. (For now, you can browse our pictures.)

    Prada: Finding the Best Discounts

It’s no secret we are huge Prada fans. We don’t care that it’s not the hottest label, that there is no IT-bag or that it’s not the hottest sidewalk fashion. Prada is timeless, versatile and wearable.

This season, the Italian fashion brand has extended it’s reach into more retail venues and more online stores. Most notably, Net-a-Porter launched Prada fashion for the first time. Insiders say that sales have been healthy, which makes us generally happy. Now that it’s sale season, we are on the hunt for the hottest Prada items for the best price. Here is where to shop for Prada and all the discount details.

    Prada
Prada boutiques are offering customers a 50% savings on spring and summer clothing and shoes. Bags are discounted 40%. Historically Prada only offers one markdown. So it’s best to get what you want right away. If you’re looking for bags or shoes, it might be best to shop Prada’s online store. Boutiques usually don’t transfer merchandise and the e-boutique draws their inventory from stores across the country. Clothing is not yet sold online.
    Prada Madison Avenue: Betty- 212-327-4200

    Net-A-Porter
Over On NAP, the discounts range from 30% to 50% off depending on the popularity of the item. NAP actually has some great exclusives, which can’t be found anywhere else. For instance, we haven’t seen any of this particular style of floral slides anywhere and the difference between 40% to 50% off is only $65. We simply can’t get enough of this lips print. The best part is that NAP will have a second markdown shortly. Keep your eyes glued.

    Bloomingdales
If you’re looking to buy a Prada bag we suggest you head to Bloomingdales where some styles are discounted 50%. The 59th Street store doesn’t carry Prada shoes any more and there is no Prada clothing. We don’t believe there will be a second markdown on bags but sometimes loyalist points and other store promotions can make the purchase even more attractive.

    MyTheresa
Prada is a straight 40% off on MyTheresa but, like NAP, the site did a Prada capsule collection and there are some great exclusive pieces. For instance, this robot print bag is just about $1200 from nearly $2000, here is a dress that will look perfect today and 20-years from now and this lightweight sweater is equally as timeless.

    SAMPLE SALES ⛵️⛱???? for June

Sun’s out. Bun’s out. It’s officially June and we are excited to catch those early rays of Summer. Long beach days and short Fridays. This month’s sample sale winners are those filling the need for bikinis and dressing for hot days.

As department stores and boutiques increasingly discount Summer merchandise, the sample sale arena must also become more aggressive with pricing. Look for sales that include in-season merchandise with discounts that top 70% off. You can expect retailers to begin final markdowns of 70% or more during the last week of June.

We’ve exclusively listed only the sample sales that we think are worthy of your time and effort. The post will continue to be updated throughout the month and remain just a click away in the right sidebar. You can also follow along on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook for sneak peeks and immediate updates. Feel free to leave feedback in the comments section so that everyone can benefit from the ‘Spy’ network.

    Etro

Stay tuned for a full review and head to Instagram to win a chance to join us for a VIP shopping experience.

    Montblanc
As of day one, there was a line spanning an hour to get in…This sale historically takes place during the holiday season and is a great opportunity to stock up on gifts. It seems a little out of step to be stocking up on luxury pens and small leather goods at this time of year. Forward thinking shoppers will love grabbing items discounted up to 70%. The less expensive items tend to go fast and there isn’t usually restocking.

    Inside the DVF Sample Sale

The Diane von Furstenberg sample sale is kicking off the post-holiday weekend shopping line-up. This morning the sale opened to an eager crowd of VIP shoppers that were no doubt looking to capture a glimpse into the legend of the DVF sale.

As with most sales, the legend is far gone. There are no sample sale racks and there aren’t many items from the current summer collection. On the bright side, prices are the same besides for a few small exceptions.  This season, wrap dresses are $15 more than last season and are priced $115. (Last season, they were $100.) We even found this classic black-and-white wrap dress online for under $100 from nearly $400.

Non-wrap dresses are still $100, tops are $50, gowns are $150 and fur and leather items are $200. (That’s $50 less than last season for the leather items.) Sweaters are $50, which s $10 more than last season. Just take note, that the cover ups are categorized as $100 dresses, which doesn’t seem to make much sense.

A lot of the sale’s inventory is from winter 2016. The best items are the gowns, which are located on the far left of the sales floor. There you will find long kaftans, fabulous laced pieces and embellished gowns what are all well worth the $150 price tag. The clutches are also a good take-away for $50 and there are several nice scarves for $30. Sunglasses are more pricey than necessary at $50 considering they are all online here for $40 and are returnable.

Shoppers weren’t loading up with merchandise, which is a tall-tell sign. We suggest waiting a few days until there are additional discounts. At this point, you can find more seasonal merchandise at similar prices online.

    Disecting Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale

The Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale is back. This is Nordstrom’s biggest sale of the year. The discount is 40% off most all Spring and Summer merchandise. Take note, the sale only runs through June 4.

Some items may not be discounted as much as other department stores but some brands are reduced even more. Nordstrom is also notorious for price matching. If you see an item priced less at another store make sure to contact customer service and Nordstrom will match the price in most situations.

Since Nordstrom added more edgy designers it’s become a great place to find items that might be gone from other retailers. For instance, we are infatuated with Brandon Maxwell’s strapless jumpsuit, this Ellery blazer and this Shrimps vegan leather biker jacket. Plenty of shoes are at 40% off too, which ranks the savings near the tops with Saks. Here are the Prada Oxford platforms with hearts, Miu Miu slides and Dolce & Gabbana rose print heels.

There is usually another discount but Nordstrom doesn’t usually drop prices below 60%. If you’re shopping in the stores– that’s another story.
