    FWRD Markdowns: Discounts 75% Off

Mid-season discounts can be hard to find but it’s always a good idea to scroll an aging sale section. Today we cruised through FWRD and were impressed by some of the items we found discounted up to 75% off.

Here is a Valentino V logo bag that’s $1700 from $3045. We love these Gianvitto Rossi suede and denim boots at $470 from $1200. Here is a Loewe Flamenco knot bag for $1630 from $2550 and the basket bag is reduced to $650.

These Saint Laurent studded slingbacks are a good deal at $400 from nearly $1000. Check out this zebra blazer from Brognano that’s $390 from $557. It seems like a fun piece to style. We love anyohne who is willing to dare Versace print leggings and I might try styleing this RtA cardigan backwards with leather pants.

Take note, this is a forever sale section and the most reduced items are only available in limited size ranges. To avoid too much frustration, we suggest you eliminate anything that’s not in your size. It also never hurts to check back periodically.

Boots, last season, were priced at $375. Women’s shoes run from size 35 to 42 and men’s go from 43 to 46. You can read all about it right here. Insights are now live in our most recent post over here

Obsessions & Impulses: Bottega Price Hike and Great Finds

This week’s installment of Obsessions & Impulses brings  news of a Bottega Veneta price hike. The price hike started today at all brand owned retail stores.

The prices on many popular items were raised $100 to $200. Classic smooth Pouches are now $2500 from $2400, the woven style is now $3100 from $2950 and the small variety is about $100 more expensive too.  (Metallic color Pouch prices remain the same.) Cassette bags are the next most popular style at BV and prices were bumped to $1900 from $1800. The Nodini, which doesn’t have as much traction is $50 more at $1700. Those boots you saw all over the runway and are almost sold out are now $1150 from $990.

I suggest you move now if you have a Bottega Veneta bag under consideration. The new prices have not been populated in other stores. Saks Fifth Avenue has a large style pouch available in white and brown for $2400. Farfetch has a blue and blush for the $2400. If you’re looking for a Cassette bag Harrod’s has them for $1456 ($1550 with taxes). Saks skill has some Cassette bags for $1800 but the new colors are priced at $1900. Here are the boots for the $990 price but there aren’t a lot of sizes left.

In other news, I’ve have been locking eyes with the matte black square toe Balenciaga slides ($695) and this Veronica Beard denim blazer ($500). Both are sale-worthy stalking.

This week, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus are hosting friends and family sales. The discount is 25% off most verticals but the exclusion list is immense. Yoox is hosting a sale where designer merchandise is discounted up to 90% off. It takes a lot of scrolling but there are some great finds.

24S is my favorite online store. Right now they are hosting a promotion where most designer items are 15% off with the code HAPPY15. There are only a few designer exclusions like LV, Celine, Dior and Gucci. The code also works with sale items. Some of my top picks are in the scroll above.

Keep your eyes on this space over the weekend. I’ll be sure to add new items as I scroll through. Also, feel free to send over any hot tips.

    Shopbop’s First Official Markdown

Online retailers don’t quite run sale season the same way traditional store calendars negotiate markdowns. Shopbop, for example, just started its first full markdown on Fall clothing, shoes and accessories. Meanwhile, most retailers won’t start markdowns for at several more weeks.

The discount seems to run from 30% to 40% off retail. An R13 leopard print tuxedo jacket could be a little much or absolutely fab. It’s now $900 from $1300. This Ronny Kobo floral print dress is a great price at $116 from $388. APL sneakers are $140 from $200, an Alice & Olivia form fitting crew-neck dress is $245 from $350, a black Halo jumpsuit is $117 from $390 and a Fila sweatshirt is $42 from $60.

Of course, there are items even reduced more from prior seasons. A Dion Lee blazer is $690 from $2290, a Silvia Tcherasssi plunging neckline dress is $570 from $1900 and Proenza Schouler boots are  $330 from $1090.

If the item you’re watching isn’t included in this markdown it is likely to be added in the next sale drop. Usually, the site adds batches of merchandise every few weeks.

Save the Date: Jimmy Choo Sample Sale

The Jimmy Choo sample sale info just slid into our inbox. This is one of those shopping-trips that requires a confirmed RSVP. No worries, we have all the details to get you in and out in no time.

The sale opens to the public on Wednesday, October 23 at the Metropolitan Pavilion. To attend the sale you must RSVP. The RSVP link isn’t active just yet but you can bookmark this page so that you’re the first to sign up. You’ll be able to scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter the code SAMPLESALE20 to receive your email confirmation number.

You should take note, this sign-up system does nothing for crowd control. Last year, the line for admittance spanned down the block. Unless you have a VIP confirmation, we suggest you refrain from attending this sale until the second day.

For the uninitiated, this sale is legendary for its discount prices. Last season, the best deals are men’s shoes that were all $150. Women’s shoes started at $250 but anything with embellishment fell into the $325 category. Boots, last season, were priced at $375. You can click here to read all the details.

This sale is always one of the most popular sample sales of the year but I have never personally purchased anything even during the press preview. Jimmy Choo has some great styles shoes but none of them ever seem to make it to the sale. The sale is usually overstocked with older styles and they don’t seem worth the price at $250. Woodbury Common Outlet usually offers similar pricing and a much newer style selection.

There are pictures and the price list from the VIP segment of last season’s sale is in the jump. We think you’ll do better shopping from the above assortment of shoes that we found priced near or below the sample sale prices.

It’s also worth noting that prices get slashed drastically in the afternoon on the last day. (Don’t be surprised if you spot people squatting with piles waiting for the price cut.) Last season, at 3pm, heels were reduced to $100, jeweled shoes & booties were $150, boots were $200, small leather goods were $30 and men’s shoes were $50. That’s when it might be worth scavenging Choos. (No, probably not.)

    Net-A-Porter Designer Discount Promotion

The trend of early designer discount promotions is expanding. Net-A-Porter first started offering a small discount exclusively on designer shoes but has now extended the promotion to a full assortment of product verticals. Starting Monday,  you can save 15% off anything within this link with the use of the code NEWNOW15.

You’ll quickly notice that most of the merchandise within this promotion edit will be included in the first markdown. The fact of the matter is that the big first markdown won’t happen until mid-November and some items might sell out before then.

Net-A-Porter first started floating these pre-season nominal discounts last year and it was a big hit. You’ll notice that a lot more designers aren’t included in the promotion. There’s no Saint Laurent, no Fendi, no Givenchy. Even that newly emerging brand Khaite is excluded.

You can contemplate this new style of Tom Ford bag with numerous mixed metal chains or this Tara style works great as an every-day bag and is priced quite reasonably. This mini Boyy bag is adorable and much less expensive than other mini designer options. Picking up a piece of Away luggage might not be a bad idea considering it isn’t usually discounted.

This Rotate Birger Christensen dress caught our attention mid-scroll At after the discount it’s under $300 and that’s a lot of look for the money.  Balmain is included in the promotion. The short double-breasted blazer is already sold out but the longer option is still available. We actually like it better and there are numerous colors from which to choose.  This Versace tee is sold out in several sizes. It wouldn’t be a good idea to snag it with this discount if it’s been a consideration.

We were surprised to find an abundance of beauty products in the discount edit. We usually don’t like buying cosmetics online but a 15% discount on a restock might not be a bad idea if you use especially pricey products. (Callout: Frederic Malle that’s included too.)

We suggest looking for what you want most and inquiring about inventory levels. Once you have all the information, you can decide if 15% off is a big enough discount now or you can wait for 30% off later.

    Shopping: Obsessions & Impulses

Even though the weather is still quite warm but it’s only a matter of time until Fall materializes. For years, I’ve been yearning for a double-faced robe style coat and this season seems to be the right time to take the plunge.

I love the idea of trading out the standard issue belt with something more statement making. I initially had my eye on the Bottega Veneta horse bit belt. I later realized that it is a take on the original Tiffany Elsa Peretti Equestrian belt that’s $200 less and made of sterling silver. I also love the long coat paired with the Loewe Obi belt or a bold Alaia option.

Starting with the coat, I found that Italist has a great assortment from Max Mara that’s super discounted. Just for example the tremendously popular Max Mara Teddy coat is $3600 at Saks and almost sold out. Here it is Italist in black for $534, here is grey for the same price. Here is a Weekender teddy version in brown for $899.

My personal obsession is more focused on a sleek long coat. I prefer one with a small lapel and without a hood. Here is a simple beige style for $704. A similar version is $2950 at Saks.  Here is a shorter version in black for $534 and this version with a more Peterpan style collar for the same price.  I’ve pulled images of other great value options below. Prices this discounted pay for the statement belt.

In other add-to-cart sale intrigues, Century 21 has loaded lots of Christian Louboutin options to it’s site. This classic black Pigalle is $420 from $725 and a Navy Fifi is $400 from $700.

Keep your eyes on this space over the weekend. I’ll be sure to add new items as I scroll through. Also feel free to send over any hot tips.
