    Weekend Shopping: Impulses & Obsessions

‘How do I look?’ is always a loaded question. In most cases, the query is posed to seek validation.

I most recently asked my teenage daughters about an outfit.  The sweatpants brigade, as I’ve come to call them, was not satisfied by dressed-up look. As I started to reconsider the components of my outfit, I raised my eyebrows –as best as I could– turned on my toes, and responded, “I like it, I really don’t care what you think.”

At this moment, I started to wonder if great fashion was a precise compilation of the perfect items or the confidence in that they are presented. Drag queens are famous for their dramatic and often over-the-top outfits but the presentation often projects as fabulous and fierce. Maybe we need to spend more time perfecting our presentation and less time fretting over the individual outfit components.

Speaking of finding great components, DSW is hosting extra markdowns on its Gucci selection. We found Gucci slides for $450 from $790, sneakers are $299 from $790 and slippers are $262 from $750. You can use this size conversion chart if you want to search the men’s shoe department.

Net-A-Porter is the latest retailer to begin big markdowns on skiwear and winter accessories. I love buying new items at this time of year and keeping them pristine until the Fall. It’s like having a free gift when you finally get to wear it. A Goldbergh black jacket is $525 from $750 and this Perfect Moment puffer is $385 from $550.

We also spotted some great Winter markdowns at Harrods. This Fendi logo puffer is $1455 from $1926 and this zip-up Fendi warmup jacket is $337 from $688. You can check out more winter weather sale items in this blog post.

Harvey Nichols is hosting a private sale where a small selection of merchandise is distinguished 30% off. The deal gets even better and we have the inside scoop. Use the code HNMOON40 and the discount goes up to 40% off. A mini Off-White Jitney bag that’s $411 from $685 and a Balmain tank is $180 from $300. Click here to see more.

This week, we also hit the hot stuff with a Net-A-Porter private discount code today that works with most items on the site.  Using the code NEW10 at checkout will save you 10% off your purchase. The discount might not be huge but that upshot is that it works on nearly everything we’ve tested. More details are in this post.

Intermix just landed some great items to power your wardrobe into Spring. You can save 10% off on all INTERMIX branded items by using the code PL10. The promotion is live until April 3. You can see our top outfit picks right here.

Last but certainly not least, LN-CC is offering a variety of merchandise with savings up to 25% off Take note, the sale can only be accessed through this link <–CLICK HERE FIRST. This Gucci horsebit bag is $2000 from $2690 US and this Saint Laurent LouLou puffer bag is $1880 from $2350. This Bottega Veneta Cassette bag is $1584 from $1980 and a Prada nylon duffle is $1560 from $1950. Click here to see more of our top sale picks.

Ok kids. That’s all for now. Next week? Same time, same place?

Late Winter Sales: Coats & Ski Gear

It seems cliche that this year is very different, but there is no way around it. This is usually when Moncler has its big markdown but we haven’t seen anything… yet.

Moda Operandi just started its markdowns on ski gear. The discounts are up to 50% off and the best part is there are lots of options available that are sold out at other retailers. This Toni Sailer jacket is $550 from $1100, Erin Snow ski pants are $353 from $558 and a Perfect Moment puffer is $385 from $550.

    Weekend Shopping: Obsessions & Impulses

This past year was undoubtedly historic. For the first time since WWII, the entire world shared a similar experience. In relation to fashion, there was a seismic shift. Even avid shoppers questioned and deliberated over every purchase regardless of the price tag.

We questioned how any new purchase would be used. When it would be used. Where it would be used. Even today, I must admit to having an abundance of unworn purchases. As we begin to think about how fashion will evolve post-Covid it’s important to remember how our clothes reflect our mood and creativity.

As we move from lockdown to freedom I can clearly see a world where people seek to celebrate and share. In terms of fashion through 2022, that may translate to a surge of consumption, decadence, and show-off culture. We have already started to see the beginnings of this trend as the art world and high-end jewelry and watch values have skyrocketed. Clearly, there is no ceiling on Chanel prices.

As society opens we should focus our buying power on items that enhance our lives. Items that have longevity and reflect our individuality. They should have meaning and give meaning to our daily existence. That doesn’t mean we need to pay full price.
This week, Saks Fifth Avenue started a promotion where you can save $400 of your purchase with the code SHHB21SF. Some of the best values include this Saint LaurentMedium Matelassé Leather Wallet-On-Chain that comes to $1150 from $1550 or Manolo Blahnik Lurum heels come to $1000 from $1300.
Bergdorf Goodman is offering an extra 30% off sale. The best selection is the athletic clothing. These Ultracore leggings with roses are $98 from $188 and Monrow sweatpants are $76 from $146. Generally, the pickings are slim but we did find these Gianvitto Rossi low suede heels are $295 from $84 and this fringe suede jacket from Dan Cassab for $490 from $1400.
The biggest sale of the week was undoubtedly J Brand. Almost the entire inventory is discounted up to 90% off. this Highrise Slim Straight comes to $68 from $288, these leather joggers come to only $119 from nearly $1000, and here are Highrise Boot Cut Leather pants for $89 from nearly $1000. You can see more of our top sales picks in this post

We were subsequently told that going forward, J Brand will only be sold directly to consumers and at Theory = and Uniqlo stores. J Brand is currently owned by Fast Retailing, which operates Uniqlo, Comptoir des Cotonniers, GU, Princesse Tam-Tam, and Theory.

If you are shopping for any outerwear or ski gear you’re not going to want to miss this post. Both MyTheresa and MatchesFashion are offering discounts up to 50% off. There are lots of great options from Bogner, Perfect Moment, Goldbergh, Holden, and more

If you’re getting ready for a post-Covid Spring, you should head over to Nugnes 1920 where you can save 15% off new collection merchandise with the code WELCOME15The site has a great selection of GucciBottega VenetaPrada and YSL for which you can apply the discount code. The savings don’t always seem huge but when some items are compared to US retail the difference can be a good first markdown. See our top picks here

Ok kids. That’s all for now. Next week? Same time, same place?

    Nugnes 1920: Early Season Discounts

A lot of our local stores are done with sale season but that the world is big. There is always an alluring reason to shop! Nugnes 1920 is a multi-brand store with several boutiques along the Eastern coast of Italy and they are offering 15% off new Spring and Summer merchandise with the code WELCOME15.

The site has a great selection of Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Prada and YSL for which you can apply the discount code. The site even has a selection of the new Ken Scott Gucci collection. Check out this floral print bucket hat that comes to $354 from  $530 US. That’s essentially a 30% savings. This white Gucci belt is $374 from $470 US. This Bottega Veneta messenger style bag is $1700 from $2150. It’s probably more usable and less trendy than some of the brand’s other new styles. This Prada net pouch is $860 from $1220 US and a Saint Laurent Baby Sac du Jour is $2000 from $2290.
The savings doesn’t always seem huge but when some items are comparied to US retail the difference can be a good first markdown. Take note, that some new seasons shoe sizes are selling out fast.  If there is a great classic, you might want to take this opporunity to snatch it up now.

    Denim Blowout: JBrand 70%+ Off

It’s no doubt that the sweats revolution has taken a big bite from denim sales. J Brand is fighting back with a huge blowout sale. You can use this link and the code GETMORE to save 70% off when you purchase three items. That includes all sales items.

Some standout sale styles include this Highrise Slim Straight that comes to $68 from $288, these leather joggers come to only $119 from nearly $1000, and here are Highrise Boot Cut Leather pants for $89 from nearly $1000. There are also lots of plus-size options and some cool non-denim and non-pants options like this oversized leather shirt jacket

Denim trends diligently shift every season. That’s how your favorite pair from last season doesn’t look quite right after a few months. The shift is sometimes subtle but the esthetic can be huge. Skinny jeans, for instance, aren’t necessarily a complete fashion faux pas. You just have to choose the right ones. Avoid styles that look like they are painted on your body or a wash that’s too light. Opt for heavier-weight denim that leaves some room at the ankle.

At these prices, you can imagine that items are selling fast. We would suggest loading up and checking out fast. Once this sale goes viral all of the popular sizes will be gone fast.
