Earlier this week, I asked a salesman at Bergdrofs about Chanel markdowns and was abruptly told that there was no Chanel sale. “We haven’t even started designer markdowns. IF Chanel goes on sale it won’t be until much later in the season,” he flatly responded.
I can never tell if these falsities are made out of pure ignorance or if salespeople think it’s okay to assume the customer is ill-informed and can be persuaded to buy merchandise at full price. Either way, this type of arrogance creates an environment of mistrust and should be avoided. The real responsibility begins at the top. It’s incumbent upon top management and brands to foster an exchange of accurate information and give the customer a sense of confidence. That’s how loyalty is created.
Chanel’s bi-annual officially opens to the public on May 25. Lots of presales and VIP previews are already underway. You can tap over to our Chanel sale post to review a sampling of merchandise that’s included in the markdown. Shoe inventory from Bergdrofs and lots of RTW from Saks were just added to the post.
