    Saint Laurent 85% Off

It’s been increasingly difficult to find great prices on Saint Laurent merchandise ever since Hedi Slimane took over. The bi-annual sample sale has been a disaster and even the Hawaii discount was discontinued after we posted about it.

Amuze is one place to shop that has a great selection and consistent low prices. Right now, the site is hosting a flash sale, which includes YSL clothing, shoes and bags. The sale’s prices are reduced up to 85% off retail. Be sure to check out this Muse Two, which is discounted to $495 from $1345. Classic black Tibute pumps are just $295 from $795 and a white peplum dress is $350 from $2290.

Have no doubts, all the items on Amuze are authentic. Just be warned that Amuze’s deals are addictive. We are hard pressed to find another website with better prices. And get this– use the code MADAVESPY and you’ll save an extra 10% off your purchase.

Gap Friends and Family 40% Off

This is Rebekka Bay’s first season as creative director of Gap and she has focused on going back to the company’s roots and highlighting basics. Most of the editorial and financial communities are very positive about the direction being charted by the H&M veteran. As a shopper, we aren’t convinced.

Sure, we all need great jeans and tees but there’s no shortage of places to buy these core items. Those shopping for basics are generally looking for two things: quality and value.

Gap is very good at offering value but over the years the quality has been inconsistent. Jeans stretch out too fast, sweaters lose their shape and tees just don’t hold up. When a customer shops at Gap, they know their purchases are unlikely to last past that season.

The other problem is that marketing basics as they were done in the 1980s is not very exciting. Does the above ad make you crave a cozy tee and slouchy jeans? It’s just boring. Vanilla. You know, the type without fresh Madagascar vanilla beans. In order to keep shoppers coming back, you need to catch their eye. Where is the buttery leather moto jacket that’s also affordable? How about letterman sweaters instead of ill fitting blazers? What about a spring coat that’s not a trench?

We think it’s great to capture the heritage of Gap but the retail landscape has way too many competitors. Gap can’t just depend on basics to entice shoppers. The company needs to continue with offering great value, improve the quality of their merchandise and offer the season’s top trends.

For now, you can grab your basics at 40% off using the code SAVE40. The friends and family sale runs through Sunday, March 16. Let us know what you think about the new creative direction in the comment section.

Inspiration: What We Need For Spring

Two days of tepid weather has us beginning to plot our fashion strategy for Summer. Inspiration is everywhere. All we need is a few more days of blue skies and warm weather to put our looks into action.

So, what fashion items are inspiring us while we shop for our summer wardrobe? To start, we are longing for a pastel coat. Pink Chanel seems to be especially perfect this season. Other color options include peach, nude, a light blue gray (think Lanvin blue) and mint green.

We have also fallen in love with Givenchy’s floral prints, which are poised to be the most iconic print of the season. The contrast of sweet and dark sets the perfect tone. We also long for an item in vintage Gucci floral print. If you are super into the sweet floral theme, you must check out Dolce & Gabbana’s flower sunglasses.

Speaking of prints, Valentino’s oversized camo is a huge hit. There so many variations of this print, that we would suggest going with the “look for less”–a non-designer version that will cost you a lot less money. The same advice can be applied to Loree Rodkin’s oversized bondage ring. One need not feel compelled to spend $20,000 to enjoy the trend.

Other trends that are catching our attention? City appropriate shorts, dresses with unexpected cutouts, slacks with racing stripes and ethnic jewelry. Do you agree? Share the trends are inspiring your spring wardrobe in the comment section below.

    TheOutnet Clearance 85% Off

Although we’ve been trying, it’s hard to find a great retail sale right now. If you’re looking to browse large discounts we suggest you track your courser over to TheOutnet. Discounts on clothing, shoes, bags and accessories head upwards to the 85% mark.

Some of our favorite pieces include this gorgeous Antonio Berardi silk coat. The retail price was $5100 and it’s now $1000. We also wouldn’t mind owning this red Marni cape that is $516 from about $2600. Perhaps all you need to kickstart spring, is a Kenzo print dress that’s $213 from $1065? (We just suggest swapping out that strange looking belt.) Alexander Wang mid-high boots are $300 from $1200 and it’s hard to resist this Anya Hindmarch bag that’s now just $240 from almost $1000.

It seems that a lot of the selection is from the winter 2012 retailing season. Take note, that for many items there is only one size and one unit. That’s a warning not to procrastinate. The sale runs through Monday and there are usually extra discounts taken during the last hours. We just wouldn’t expect there to be many desirable items left at that point.

    This Week’s Worthy Sample Sales

It’s still early for sample sale season but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a full calendar of events. None of these sales are– exactly– blowing our doors off but they all offer significant savings. Below are details on the Bric’s, Jack Rogers and Pratesi sample sales.

    Spring Ahead: J. Crew Sale

The clocks have been rolled ahead and the days are officially longer. Warm days can’t be too far away– at least we hope. Nothing seems more appealing than freshening our wardrobe with some fashionable spring staples.

Through Tuesday, J. Crew is offering 25% off women’s clouting and accessories in stores and online. (Of course, discounts can’t be applied when shopping at 869 Madison. Is that considered a Madison Avenue tax?) We can’t get enough floral prints for the coming season and the overblown floral blouse ($398) and shorts outfit ($189) is polished enough for strolling city streets or Main Street. A classic varsity jacket ($290) tops our list of needs for the new season, along with this leather moto jacket ($1200). We also love this jeweled Thomas Mason shirtdress ($498).

Those looking for more wardrobe stapes can should take this opportunity to stock up on our favorite pixie pants ($88) and a very thin cashmere sweater looks always looks perfect with a skirt. We can’t think of anyone who doesn’t need a jean skirt. Don’t have one you love? Try this version ($98).

If you’re looking to shop for men or children, we suggest that you wait. This discount is strictly for women but we predict that more promotions will be coming soon.

Intermix 20% Off a Single Item

This isn’t the ideal time of year to shop for Spring. There are very free promotions, and well, it’s still cold out. Sometimes, however, a single item gnaws at your shopping sensibilities. Lucky we have a lucky online shopping code for Intermix.

You can save 20% off a single, full price, item by using the code BDMAR14. Take note, the is only for online shopping and there are some exclusions. For example, this IRO leather moto jacket goes to about $1000 from $1350. (There is one in silver too!) These 14k gold and diamond Adina Reyter star earrings go from $400 to $300 with by using the same code. These Veronica Beard brightly colored leopard shorts are warm weather positive and are reduced to about $260 from $350. In preparation for the rainy season, as opposed to the snowy season, you might want to grab these Rag & Bone for Hunter rain boots that come to $220 from about $300.

While shopping you should also consider using the code for every blogger’s favorite, Vita Fede jewelry, Helmut and everyone needs a Sara Battaglia fringed bag. Just a note: Applying the discount in stores is more difficult but not impossible…
