In New York, your coat isn’t just an accessory, it’s your whole outfit for nearly half the year. You can go months without anyone seeing what’s underneath, which may explain why my impulse to buy more never quite fades. Shop my cold-weather edit to stay warm, stylish, and just a little over-prepared for whatever the city throws your way.

Save the Date: Jimmy Choo Sample Sale

The Jimmy Choo sample sale opens to the public on Tuesday, October 14, at the Metropolitan Pavilion. You’ll need to RSVP to attend. and enter the code JCGA25.  After registration,  email will be sent to you with a  confirmation number. That said, this RSVP system doesn’t do much for crowd control. To my surprise,  every season, the line stretches down to 8th avenue and around the block. I suggest you skip the morning rush, the line waiters, and herders and go later in the afternoon. Better yet, wait until the second day when the lines finally thin out. There’s always shoes to buy.  Most styles heels are $350 and boots are $375. Men’s shoes are usually the best bet (and the most civilized section of the sale.)  If you’d rather avoid the crowds altogether, Jimmy Choo runs good online sales throughout the year. Some current finds are below.

Prepping for the Cold: Early Boot and Coat Finds

This is the time of year when, while it’s still warm, we can see what’s coming and prepare. Early markdowns and European sale opportunities mean you can score boots and coats before the rush—think sharp wool coats at 30% off or shearling-trimmed puffers at half price. Knee-high boots that will be impossible to find in your size come November are stacked online at 40% off. Acting now turns the hunt for cold-weather staples into a strategy rather than a scramble.

Manolo Sample Sale vs. Online: Finding the Real Deals

The Manolo Blahnik sample sale drew lines starting at 2am, with classics priced from $375–$595 and samples from $125, but by late morning most of the best styles were gone — and with long waits, tight shopping windows, and extra checkout lines, the hassle outweighed the rewards for many. The good news? You don’t need to trek to Hell’s Kitchen to score a deal. Net-A-Porter has one of the strongest selections. Just be sure to sort by size to avoid heartbreak. Mytheresa and Saks are offering healthy sale sections too, bringing prices close to sample sale levels without the overnight camping or endless lines.
