    Dunhill First Markdown

Discounts in men’s boutiques traditionally starts a few weeks later than women’s wear. This weekend, Alfred Dunhill started their first markdown where most seasonal clothing, shoes and accessories are 30% off. Classic wool suits and blazers are about the only items not on sale. Cuff links, pens, belts and small leather goods are also being discounted 30%.

The greatest value is in the watch department where the discount is 60%. The company is awaiting a revamped line of timepieces and closing out the styles that are currently in stock. Before you male watch snobs turn up your nose, remember Dunhill is owned by Richemont Group, which also owns watch companies like Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Piaget, Vacheron Constantin and Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Towards the real end of the season the Dunhill discount usually closes in at 60% across the collection. We are told that there was a big budget cut this season and there isn’t as much inventory as usual. Truth or come-on? We’ll let you decide.

Paige Turner, our on-location spy, says there are no lines to get in and the line to try on clothing went very fast.
“The selection is picked over and it’s a mess.”
    “It’s a madhouse.”
    “It’s hard to shop.”

Is it worth going to, “I’m getting a dress or two.” There you have it…

    Lynn Yeager, MadSpy Fan

We were thrilled, yesterday, to find out that Lynn Yeager is a fan of Madison Avenue Spy. In the NY Time blog, The Moment, Yeager, cronicles a recent trip to Gabays where she searches for Bendles castoff:

When rumors reached me that goods bearing the once vaunted Henri Bendel label were now decorating the racks at Gabay’s, a down-at-the-heels, cut-rate East Village version of Century 21 (if you can imagine such a thing), I decided to walk over and see for myself.

We are so glad that we were able to inspire a shopping trip and a story. Lynn, we are fans of yours too!

    Mikimoto Sample Sale

Twice a year Mikimoto holds a private sale for employees and their friends. The sale usually takes place at their Fifth Avenue showroom, but like the economy the Mikimoto sale is changing. The exclusive private event is now a sample sale at Soiffer Haskin.

Supposedly the selection this season is more abundant and they needed to outsource the sale because they needed the extra space. Along with the increased inventory we imagine you can expect higher prices. Sale details are below but also know that Mikimoto carries a lower-end line than their prized AAA-quality pearls. The company also manufactures a collection of pearls for jewelry stores like Kay. So if the deal seems too good there might be a reason for that.

    Bergdorfs Private Online Sale

First Neiman Marcus sent out their link to their best customers. Now Bergodrf Goodman has a hidden passage to get discounts on their site.

As with Neimans, the discount is about 30% to 40% off across the board. The selection is currently top notch and much better than what’s left on Neimans. For some reason, though, the shoe collection seems a bit anemic.

We found a $1,895 oversize YSL Muse reduced to $1,270. A Dolce & Gabbana Tulip Chiffon Blouse was $1,095 and is now $657.

Be careful, some boutiques are running better sales than department stores. For example, Herve Leger is 35% off at Bergdorfgoodman.com but the boutique is 40% off (sizes and styles at the boutique are already depleated though.) Chloe is 40% off here but 50% off on Madison Avenue. So before you click to buy do a search. It’s right there on the top left.

    Chanel Sale 40% Off

The Chanel sale begins Wednesday. Shoes and ready-to-wear are 40% off. There are only two styles of bags on sale and they are both a seasonal fabric style. We hear 57th Street unsurprisingly has the best selection but usually the worst service due to the inundation of tourists. Head over to Madison for more personalized attention.

    Neiman Marcus “Best Customer” Sale

The big spenders of Neiman Marcus are often thanked with pre-discount shopping incentives. Today, the department store’s best customers were offered an exclusive web link to an online sale, shoes and bags are 33% off, designer apparel is 40% off and contemporary clothing is up to 50% off.

Speaking of Neiman Marcus, a Mad-Spy today wrote us saying that the Bergdorfs sale has already started. The sale wasn’t scheduled to to begin until Wednesday but maybe Bergdorfs is starting to feel the heat from Barneys and Saks 40% off…
