    Where to Shop After Christmas

We apologize in advance but we are going to take off for the rest of the year. We wouldn’t want to leave you hanging so we put together a list of sales you’re not going to want to miss.

In the meantime, you can always email us with your inside shopping tips. If we can find a reliable network we’ll be sure to pass on the information along with your unique spy name. Happy Holidays, Healthy New Year!

    1. Saks Fifth Avenue
Starting Thursday morning, Saks will be enticing shoppers with an additional 50% off from 8am until noon for a total savings of up to 70% off. After the clock strikes noon the additional savings drops to just 40% off sale items. So set your alarm clocks or presale Monday and Tuesday.

    2. Net-a-Porter
Luxury e-tailer, Net-a-Porter, already started their second markdown where some items are reduced up to 70% off. Starting Wednesday evening/ Thursday morning, you will notice that a lot more items will be reduced to that 70% off mark. Of course, you can wait for this merchandise to hit TheOutNet, but why wait?

    3. Manolo Blahnik
The Manolo Blahnik usually starts their first markdown immediately after New Years. The discount is normally 33% off but if you can wait three weeks, prices are slashed to 50%. Then right when you think your winter blues can’t get any worse, Manolo starts their February clearance sale where shoes are discounted up to 75% off.

    4. Ralph Lauren
When Ralph Lauren slashes up to 70% off we’ve been known to raid the Rhinelander Mansion for cashmere sweaters for ourselves. The best part is that most of the leftover men’s stock  is a size xs, which is just perfect for us. Just be careful, prices in the store don’t always match up online. So bring your iPad, so that you can price compare.

    5. Barneys New York Holiday with Jay Z
Barneys special holiday store was a huge bust on all accounts–no pun intended. We doubt that many people are going to the Madison Avenue department store to shop the collection, despite the fact that all the proceeds are going to charity. That makes the fate of the $17,000 special design Hublot watch into question, along with this $700 Elder Statesman cashmere ski mask and this Balmian Epaulette tee for $1000. All these items were customized for the collection and we couldn’t imagine any discount store wanting to be associated with the messy controversy. Barneys will have no choice but to close out the merchandise quickly. After all, the money has already been spent. That’s what we call a lose-lose situation.

    Huge Reed Krakoff Bag Sale

Reed Krakoff is hosting a large markdown on their handbags. The discount is about 60% and there are dozens of great styles from which to choose.

While shopping the boutique, we event found a classic black Boxer included in the markdown. The brand’s iconic style bag is now $626 from $1490. The more slouchy styled Fighter bag is $710 from $1690, a tri-colored Atlantique $626 from $1490 and a sweet Academy cross body bag is $416 from $990.

Surprisingly, the markdown on shoes and clothing is not as much– just 40%. In the meantime, we are going to be sure to keep our eye on the alligator printed long sleeve sweater that’s still $714 from $1190 and this crewneck sweater dress with leather front skirt that’s still $1014 from $1690. We should also talk about these perforated leather booties that are $510 from $850.

    Piperlime Closing Out Kids

Piperlime, a division of Gap, is closing their kid’s department. Children’s shoes are now reduced up to 50% off. Through Thursday night, you can also use the code NEWSTYLES for an extra 30% off.

These toddler New Balance sneakers are $22 from $44 and just $16 with the discount code. Sorel snow boots come to about $32 from $60 and boy’s Adidas Orions are about $27 from $52. Beware, sizes are selling out quickly and all sales are final. Sometimes the final sale situation outweighs the price savings– especially with small kids. Order with care!

What to do When It’s: ‘Sold Out’

Every season, there are a handful of items that top the list of the world’s most fashionable and then sell out. There are waiting lists and black markets. Resellers and bribes. This is fashion and you are only as cool as your last purchase, or some think. This year, some of the hottest items never even make it to the sales floor.

Rather than throwing up your arms in defeat, it’s always good to start searching stores that may not be on the average shopper’s radar. Below are a few of our favorite shopping destinations for hard-to-find items. If these stores fail, you can also try stores in other mid-tier markets, like Miami, Chicago and Houston.

    Hirshleifers
Our first stop is always Hirshleifers on Long Island at Americana Manhasset. During our last trip the tony boutique had waiting lists for the Chanel No. 5 Plexi Perfume Bottle bag ($9500) and the Boy Chanel Enchained ($5100). The store is also receiving ample shipments of Chanel espadrilles, if you’re looking to stock up for the spring. Of course, this season the brand raised the prices by $100. The store also has a large collection of hard to find Chrome Hearts merchandise and hard-to-find Buscemi sneakers.

    Coco Pari
The basic Christian Louboutin styles usually aren’t hard to find but it can be difficult to get your hands on some specialized styles. In these situations, I always give a call to Coco Pari, in Red Bank, NJ. The store is filled with a huge selection of the red soled shoes. The best part is that from time to time they will even wave a small discount to close the deal. Just be aware, the high school sales people are a bit stalkish and don’t have the most sophisticated style. It’s always a good idea to shop there with a critical eye.

    Scottsdale Fashion Square
It’s not as hip as California but they try. Scottsdale has a large affluent population and great shopping, but trends travel there a bit more slowly. For example, when Celine Luggage Totes were nearly impossible to find in New York, the Barneys at Scottsdale Fashion Square had a selection of almost every color combination. Looking for an Hermes item that shouldn’t be too hard to get– try the Hermes here. There’s also the added benefit that cold weather items don’t tend to sell very well. The best part of the Mall is that there is almost every store that you would find on Madison Avenue located in one place.

Second Markdown: Saks & Net A Porter

Tis the season of markdowns and shopping. Saks Fifth Avenue and Net-A-Porter both have started their second markdowns. The online retailer, NAP, has reduced prices up to 70% off and the discount at Saks is now up to 60% off. So where are the better deals? Lets take a look.

These days, retailers make a point of trying to keep their merchandise unique so that it’s more difficult to price compare. That doesn’t mean we can’t find lots of apples. For instance, NAP has a great sale on Charlotte Olympia’s kitchy bags. Prices are mainly discounted 70%. This Pandora is $277 from $925 and this fruit clutch is $298 from $695. Over at Saks, however, you can find a great assortment of discounted Fendi bags. A patchwork 2Jours is $2023 from $2890 and python and leather Silvana is $2177 from $3110.

Jimmy Choo Amore boots are the same price at Saks and NAP: $556 from $795. Saint Laurent Paris ankle boots, however, are $100 less expensive at NAP, $597 from $995. NAP is also the better location to buy Giuseppe Zanotti’s ‘Ester’ ankle boots. The price is $478 from $1195 and the price at Saks is still $836.

If you’re a fan of Reed Krakoff, you might find better savings at Saks. A color block fine wool sweater was originally $1190. Saks has the sweater reduced to $428, while NAP’s price is $714. Saks also offers a more significant savings on a metallic print Jil Sander sweater, which was originally priced at $1590. The price at Saks is $572, while the NAP price is $954. That’s almost a $200 price difference! Saks also wins on a Christopher Kane print dress that’s priced $700 more on NAP.

Both sites are offering free shipping and returns through the holiday season. Saks Fifth Avenue generally has a lot more options than Net-A-Porter but the edit from the online retailer is more focused on a edgier shopper. As always, we always suggest shopping all sites before making a purchase.

    Zara Sale Begins Friday

Zara’s semi-annual sale will start Friday, December 20. The markdown will range from 10% to 50% off and also be available online. Children’s clothing and slow selling women’s items are usually found at the deeper discounts, while popular shoe and bag styles are reduced less.

Right now you can find some sale racks in stores and a limited sale section online. For example a women’s color block top is $40 from $70, a houndstooth coat is $100 from $179 and a leather bowling-style bag is $70 from $160.

Zara isn’t keen on price adjustments but if you want to get the top picks you might be able to buy sale merchandise a day or two before the sale officially starts. As the New Year edges on, Zara will likely take the top markdown to 70%. By this time, however, much of the leftover merchandise is either damaged or undesirable.

While browsing we found a McQ moto jacket with gorilla fur arms, which comes to about about $1100 from $2465. We found CoSTUME NATIONAL booties that come to about $330 from $920 and Alejandro Ingelmo clutter high-top sneakers for $170 from $525. Kelly Wearstler earrings are about $100 from almost $300 and this Eddie Borgo statement ring is about $110 from $350.

Amuze Gucci Sale Starts at Noon

Even during sale season prices on luxury designer products can still be very high. Finding a true bargain is not a simple task. That’s why we were so thrilled to find the new site, Amuze. The online discounter runs weekly flash sales of some of our favorite designers. The best part is the prices, most of which are 80% off retail.

Last week, the site ran a sale of amazing Valentino products. The sale had Rockstud shoes for $275 from $845. Another sale consisted of perfect gifts for both men and women. A men’s Brunello Cucinelli sweater was $350 from $1200 and Gucci croc shoes were $395 from $895. In the women’s sale there were Tom Ford slingback for $285 from $1114 and a $4290 Valentino dress marked down to $850.

This week, starting Monday at noon, the site will post a sale consisting of fabulous Gucci items. Shoppers can choose from an assortment of the brand’s most popular clothing, shoes and bags. All pries are up to 80% off retail. That means that you can afford to indulge your normally jealous sister with a similar pair you bought for yourself.

Seems good? We agree, but there’s even a better deal for you. Madison Avenue Spy readers can use the code “bemerry” at checkout and receive $25 off your purchase. Shop quickly because the sale will end on at noon on December 25. All orders submitted by Friday, December 20 will arrive in time for Christmas.
