    Nordstrom Anniversary Presale

Nordstrom is known for having great sales. There are two in particular that can send a city girl shopping in the burbs: The “Half-Yearly Sale” and the “Anniversary Sale.” The Half-Yearly sale is clearance, usually towards the end of the season. The Anniversary Sale is a pre-sale before the new collection hits the department store floor.

Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale starts today. The sale consists of a catalog of pre-Fall merchandise that is discounted 25% to 40% off. Each department has its own special items that are featured in the pre-Fall sale. You can sift through the catalog right here.

The presale sale runs from July 9th to July 16th but the sale is limited to customers who have a Nordstrom credit card until July 16th. Afterwards the sale opens to the general public. Prices return to normal once the sale ends in August.

Back-to-school items are especially attractive during this Nordies sale. For example, we wouldn’t be caught dead wearing Uggs but they are a staple for school-age children. For example classic Uggs are $100 from $150,  Hudson jeans are $32 from $69 and Vans are just $30.

We are a bit choosier when picking pre-season items for ourselves but a DVF wrap dress caught our eye for $265 from  almost $400. A casual coat from Topshop is just $100 from $160 and classic Stuart Weitzman boots are $400 from $625.

There are also some great beauty packages with terrific brands like Kiehl’s, Molton Brown and La Mer. Check out this Charlotte Tilbury package that comes with a cosmetic case and offers a $60 savings. This year there is also an extensive home section, which includes sheets and towels, kitchen accessories and decor accent pieces.

Clearly the savings are significant. Identifying what you want for Fall is a bit more difficult but surely worth the effort. Sometimes it pays to plan ahead.

Milly Dresses are $20 at Kolhs

Kolhs isn’t exactly the most likely shopping destination for Madison Avenue shoppers but we heard about $20 Milly dresses and decided to take a look.

Today was our first entreé to the retailer and we were really quite surprised with what we found. There were lots of recognizable brand names and the prices were quite inexpensive. The only problem was that a lot of the merchandise is produced of that nail snagging polyester that makes our skin crawl. Very much akin to what you would find from Target’s designer collaborations.

As with Target, there are many pieces that stand out for their great design, reasonable quality and amazing price. The Milly collection, which is now on clearance, includes crisp cotton dresses, light cotton peasant tops and soft sketchy jersey maxi-dresses. In the store, we found this stripped maxi-dress for $23 from $76, this organza top in black was $15 from $50 and this blue floral print dress was just $20 from $68. You can click here to see pictures of all the Milly dresses we found or you can click over to TheBudgetBabe to see the complete lookbook. (Unfortunately, Kolhs.com will not cross-honor in-store pricing.)

Today’s shopping trip just goes to show that you shouldn’t drive by a store for 10 years without going in. You never know what you can find.

    COS 50% and More

It’s that time of summer again when you realize you have nothing to wear. There’s nothing to wear to breakfast. Nothing to wear after the beach. Nothing to wear. Period.

To make matters worse, summer trends are already tired. We’ve had enough with the chevron rainbow. Ditch the Dolce florals. Simple. Simple. Simple. Finding something inexpensive isn’t bad either.

If you’re looking for quality minimalistic basics without the high prices, we suggest you explore COS. The retailer is the younger sister of H&M. Prices are higher but the quality is akin to most designer contemporary brands or better. The best part is that COS is hosting a summer clearance sale where most items are 50% off or more.

A loose fit jersey dress (perfect for after the beach) is now $39 from $79. Raw cut leather sandals are $37 from $125 and this version with a wood heel feels like Celine and is just $95. Here is your oversized cotton top for just $22 from $45. Oh, and here is your dress for your early Sunday morning coffee run for $44 from $90.

The online store also carries a nice selection for men and women, which are both on sale too. If you can’t get to the store downtown, we seriously suggest you test shop online. Shipping is just $6 and returns are free.

    Net-A-Porter and TheOutnet Extra Discounts

It’s now or never if you want to grab what remains on Net-A-Porter. As an extra bonus, the site is offering an additional 20% off select remaining items.

So what’s left? White Fendi track pants come to $200 after the extra 20% from $850, A Dolce & Gabbana blouse is discounted to $320 from over $1000 and a Rick Owens vest is $800 from $2600.

After tomorrow the sale section disappears and the next stop is TheOutnet. Speaking of which, the discount site is now offering an additional 40% off items that are are already heavily reduced. This Iris and Inc drawstring bag is an amazing deal at just $177. The same goes for this light weight cashmere sweater that comes to just $95. Here’s a Valentino bag for just $600 from $2500. Here’s a pretty Herve Leger dress for just $400 from an original price of $1640.

We love both these sales because there are plenty of inexpensive items that offer a cheap thrill and a variety of more haute merchandise that would otherwise be cost prohibitive. Just remember look at the small print. Sometimes the most discounted merchandise is final sale and it’s no deal if you’re not going to be able to enjoy your purchase.

    Amuze July 4th Spectacular

July 4th is almost here and it’s the perfect time to grab some great deals at our favorite online designer discount store, Amuze. The holiday sale boasts discounts up to 80% off of great designer merchandise from Tom Ford, Valentino, Saint Laurent, Prada, Gucci and more. The best part is that you can use the code JULY4 and save an additional 25%.

Check out these Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes that come to nearly $200 from $735, a Valentino pouchette is just $380 from almost $2000 or an Alexander McQueen dress comes to $280 from almost $1200 and a wine color Balenciaga moto jacket is just $725 from over $2700. (Now, that’s a deal!) There is even a great selection of clothing for men and children.

We couldn’t imagine anyone not loving all these discounts but it’s also good to know that Amuze allows returns for either store credit or refund (minus shipping, of course). But shop fast, these deals will disappear as quickly as the fireworks.

Bergdorf Goodman & Barneys Slash Prices to 75% Off

We are coming into the home stretch of markdown season. In baseball they would call it the bottom of the ninth. (I think.) Both Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman have slashed prices to 75% off, which means all bets are off. It’s time to throw down those white gloves and get shopping.

Below is a comparison chart of Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. Take note that the shoe discount at Barneys ranges from 60% to 75% off. It’s rare to see markdowns on footwear that top 75% off. We suggest snagging anything that looks vaguely like something you might wear.

    Saks Starts Final Markdown-Consolidation

Saks Fifth Avenue started their final markdown today. The discount, which is being titled a ‘Consolidation Sale,’ is up to 80% off. The one problem is that all merchandise that’s reduced 60% or more is final sale. That means you need to really consider your options before making a purchase.

You can click here to see all the great items we found in the store earlier this week or head online. Some of our favorite items include an Alexander McQueen red flared dress that’s now $900 from $3000, Chloe scalloped flats for $200 and Manolo BBs are $280 from almost $700.

If you’re holding out for an even better discount you might be disappointed. Since new management took over, the discounts stopped at 70%. Perhaps that means more of a bounty for the Off Fifth stores but we haven’t confirmed that.

    Moda Operandi 75% Off

Moda Operandi is hosting a summer sale where some of the most stylish designer items from the season are discounted 75%. That means you can shop some of the most fashionable pieces of the season for prices that don’t even fall into the splurge category.

A Harvey Faircloth tulip skirt is just $110 from almost $400, Thakoon pleated dress is $266 from almost $1000 a print Saloni romper is $98 from $350 and a Kenzo knit dress is $124. Among the shoes are Brian Atwood snakeskin sandals for $280 from about $1000, Pierre Hardy wedges for $222 and Mother of Pearl lobster embroidered espadrilles for $110.

This is M’O and, of course, there is the more expensive stuff too. Check out this Preen by Thorton Bregazzi print skirt that’s $600 from almost $2000, an Ellery silk print dress that’s $630 from $1700 and a Delpozo flamingo print top for $600 from $1500.

There are really a lot of great pieces in the sale section. You can scroll through the photos above to see our favorites. Take note, a lot of these items are final sale.
