    Gift Guide: Lets Get Techie

We know that you are at least slightly tech competent if you’re a blog reader. Techie gifts used to be geared towards men but women enjoy modernization as much as the next guy. This holiday season there is a full corp of wanna-try and must have techie and  travel items. Below is a compilation of some of our favorites.

    1. If you updated your iPhone to a 7, chances are you miss using your favorite headphones. Without a headphone jack we’ve been forced to experiment with bluetooth speakers but many of us just want old pair back. If this is the case, there is the Mpow’s Bluetooth Adaptor, a nifty little attachment that bridges the gap between your bluetooth device and your favorite plug-in. The beat part is that it’s just $32 and can be used with any speaker.

    2. Everyone has a thing for Alexa these days. The Echo Dot is Amazon’s award winning smart hands-free, voice-controlled device that plays music, controls smart home devices, provides information on demand, reads the news, sets alarms and cooks dinner. (Just kidding about the last feature.) Basically, for $40 you can have a fantastic speaker and order your Prime items just by vocalizing your order. (Be careful of the kids getting wind of this feature!)

    3. Okay, the Rimowa Salsa is just a suitcase. It won’t even charge your phone but it looks great and you can pack all your techie gear inside. As a packing tip, we always take a large bag and a smaller one. Spreading your belongings among two cases will assure that you’re never overweight. We especially like the combination of the 29″ with the 26″. Take note, Louis Vuitton purchased the Rimowa brand earlier this year and we wouldn’t be surprised if prices began to quickly rise.

    4. There are a lot of things we put on a pedestal. So why shouldn’t your phone charge on a marble base? The Native Union marble iPhone charger ($130) looks super chic on a kitchen counter and assures you don’t drop your phone in the sink.

    5. We all know that New York winters are brutal. The lack of sunshine only makes the sub-zero temperatures even more unbearable. Many people find that mornings are a lot easier with gradual natural light rousing you from your sleep. The Verily Rise & Shine( $49) allows you to choose your light level, slumber sounds and will help you count down the days to Spring.

Department Stores: Finding the Best Discount

There are just a few days before Christmas and there isn’t a lot of time to pick up last minute gifts. Almost all of our favorite stores have taken a second markdown. One can expect to universally save 60% on women’s clothing but if you’re in the market for shoes are bags, the discounts vary greatly.

Below is a comparison chart of Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. The next and final markdown usually happens mid-January.

Here is your discount cheat sheet:

Second Markdown Alert: Net A Porter

‘Tis the season of markdowns and shopping. Net-A-Porter started their second markdown today. The online luxury retailer has reduced prices up to 70% off and many popular style bags and fashion are still in stock.

Among the bag selection we found lots of popular styles discounted 50%. This Chloe Hudson bag is reduced to $1175 from $2350. This Drew bag is also discounted 50%. A pink Lanvin shoulder bag is about $600 from nearly $1200 and the Christopher Kane bag with flower appliqués is reduced 70%– $239 from about $800.

The discounts on shoes range from 40% to 70% off with most styles getting the 60% markdown treatment. Among the most heavily reduced shoes are Aquazurra styles. Lace-up flats are $225 from $750, over the knee suede boots are $450 from $1500. Other well-discounted shoe options include, Tabitha Simmons flower embroidered ankle boots that are $250 from $850 and those Raf Simon- Stan Smith sneakers we love are $166 from $415.

The clothing options that are discounted 70% off seem infinite. From a Balmain minidress that’s perfect to ring in the New Year or this Balmain black-and-white coat that’s as on trend as you can get. It’s really hard to choose. We even found this very popular Mr. & Mrs. Italy fur parka that was just reduced 40%.

The new markdowns just launched this morning but we already see items low in stock and selling out. We suggest you pile up that cart and edit before you’re done.

    Bergdorfs Goodman’s VIP Second Markdown

This is a huge week for retailers and your last chance to finalize your holiday shopping list and not pay extra for shipping. Retailers are only adding to your temptation by taking second markdowns. Bergdorf Goodman is the latest store to start promoting additional discounts. The sale hasn’t gone public yet but you can access the additional discount with this VIP link.

Handbags are now 50% off, which is excellent except the online selection isn’t very good. A Valentino Rocketed bag is $2000 from $4000 and a Givenchy
    Shark satchel
is $800 from $1600. The shoe collection, on the other hand, is excellent. The markdown is 50% off and the selection is top-notch. Valentino ballet flats are about $500 from $1000 and Gianvito Rossi nude pumps are about $317 from $635. Careful, some styles are still only 30% off.

Lets sink our teeth, or wallets, into where we can find the deals. Clothing! That Dolce & Gabbana tulip print dress is now $1290 from $2145, a Diane von Fursternberg dress is $160 from $400 and a Vince lace-up sweater is $138 from $345. Don’t miss this sweater from The Row that’s $460 from $1150.

We suggest you pounce on this second markdown right away. It’s not often that Bergdorfs goes toe-to-toe with Barneys this early in the season. (Shoe pun intended.)

    Barneys Takes Their Second Markdown

Barneys started their second markdown today online and in stores. Most sale merchandise is now 60% off. There is still a wide assortment of fall/winter shoes, bags and ready-to-wear. Another markdown will come after the holidays but much of the stuff you want will be gone by then.

The Barneys markdown is great because it includes an impressive assortment of shoes and bags. This Anya Hindmarsh clutch is $579 from $1450 and makes a great gift. A minimalistic Valextra tote that fits a laptop is $1800 from $3400 and a Valentino Rockstud saddle bag is $1700 from $4300. Among the shoes are Gianvitto Rossi classic black knee-high boots that are $580 from $1460, Chloe lace-up boots are $560 from $1400, Valentino lace-up flats are $360 from $900 and Prada platform pumps are $380 from $950.

If you’re in the store and looking for discount bags, head to the right as you walk into the store.  At this point in the sale season you can usually find a variety of Balenciaga, Chloe and Givenchy bags.

We suggest you don’t procrastinate before buying holiday gifts. This will be the last markdown before the holidays. The third, and final markdown, doesn’t usually occur until mid-January. Just remember to not blow your whole shopping budget. You’re going to want to leave some money to grab something nice for yourself when the markdowns hit 75% off.
