    Big News: Manolo Sample Sale

We love Fall in New York– the changing leaves, the Park Avenue mums, and yes, the Manolo Blahnik sample sale. Our sources tell us that this year’s Fall sample sale will open to the public on Wednesday, October 25th. As is tradition, the second floor salon of the Warwick Hotel will be the site of the event.

This sample sale is a bi-annual highlight for shoe lovers. As you can imagine, the wait time can be worse than a passport agency. We usually prefer the boutique sales even if prices are a bit more expensive. You can read the full report from last season over here. (Those who can’t make it to the sale can shop an assortment of brand new Manolos starting at just $75 from the scroll above.)

Shoppers who are up for the Manolo sample sale challenge, should expect to take a number and wait, and wait, and wait. The really nice thing about this sale is that you can leave and come back once you get your lucky numbered ticket. Take note, that the sale opens at 11am and will close when inventory begins to run low. In past years, that was at about 3pm to 4pm, which does’t leave a big window for shopping.

We expect that prices will run along the same lines as last season. Plain shoes, including leather, suede satin, and printed fabric start at $125 ($136 with tax) and go up to $150. Shoes with embellishments like glitter and studs were priced $175. Boots started at $200 for basic versions and went up to $400 for over-the-knee styles.

Over the past few seasons the assortment has been dwindling. Manolo Blahnik & Co. recently added a fundraising component to their overstock strategy. A sale to benefit Arethusa Farm Scholarship Fund for University of Connecticut Agricultural Studies. A good amount of stock that would show up at the bi-annual sample sale has gone to the, so called, farm.

At the last sale, by 10am the crowds of VIPs had thinned and the shopping environment was very civilized. Sizes 37.5 to size 39 were already running very thin. The best selection was for sizes 40.5 and up or 36 and below. Doors opened to the public at 11am sharp and the room filled with many more shoppers– many seemed like resellers.

Remember, the sale is open to the public for only one day. That’s a good indication that there will not be much merchandise. If you attend the sale, please keep us all posted in the comment section below.

    Bergdorf Goodman Gift Cards

No matter how much we try to hold out for sale season, there are always a few items we need immediately. Considering the weather is going to change soon, it’s now or never if you want to get into fall fashion. Sometimes finding a good gift card promotion could be your best (and only) discount option.

Bergdorf Goodman is offering online suppers up to $1000 in gift cards. The incentive breakdown is below:

Spend $500 or more and receive $75
Spend $1000 or more and receive $150
Spend $2000 or more and receive $400
Spend $5000 or more and receive $1000

The sale is only running one more day, October 23. The best part is that there are hardly any exclusions besides for the likes of Gucci, Balenciaga and Chanel. Qualifying items are indicated in green. Just use the code BGFALL at checkout to automatically receive your electronic gift card.

Some fashion pieces never seem to go on sale and others we just refuse to wait for. For example, we never got a new down jacket last year and it might be time to update your Moncler. These Off-White bags keep going up in price. Last season they were $900 and now they are up to $1100. Manolo Hangisi flats look better than Gucci loafers and are less “fashion uniform.”

Once you get started, it’s hard to stop. After all, any incentive is reason enough start the new shopping season.

Neiman Marcus Secret Sale: Givenchy, Balmain & Pilotto

Starting Sunday, Neiman Marcus will begin a promotion where merchandise that’s been reduced up to 85% off will be discounted an extra 25%. That will bring the total discount to nearly 90% off retail. The sale is private and only for ‘best customers’ so you must use this link to access the additional discounts. Remember the extra, markdowns won’t be live until Sunday.

For now, you can start browsing and filling your cart. This Stella McCartney dress with zipper details is already reduced under $200 from almost $1300. A Tom Ford dress with a deep v-neck is currently reduced to $1362 from $6450. The extra markdown will bring the price down to just about $1000. We absolutely love this Peter Pilotto cold-shoulder ruffled blouse that’s about $190 from nearly $1000. It’s hard to resist this firey Balmain dress that will be about $750 from more than $3745.

Over in the shoe department, the discounts aren’t quite as good. These shoes from The Row are about as on point as a shoe style can get. After the discount they are $270 but it’s a far cry from the starting price of $1150. Chloe suede boots are $405 from $1350 and Aquazzura flats are $225 from $750. Tom Ford shoes should be about $400 from $1790. Aquazzura shoes will only be $185 from $725.

This sale is scheduled to go public on Sunday and will only run through Wednesday. We suspect there will also be a bonus day but we don’t expect many of the best items to stick around.

Fall Fashion: Great Jackets & Coats

The weather is starting to get nippy and we can’t bear the idea of starting a whole new season in last year’s coats. Yes, it’s time for a outerwear makeover.

In New York, fashionable outerwear is more important than perhaps anywhere else. You can essentially wear the same outfit every day and nobody will know because we are always in coats and jackets. New York Winters can be brutal.

Before we get ahead of ourselves we need to spruce up our Fall style. We’ve found that Nordstrom has one of the best selections of outerwear and includes almost every style and price point you can desire.

The most important item for Fall is always a leather Moto jacket. You only need one and if you buy the right one you can wear it for decades. This Saint Laurent version ($4890) is classic and perfect in cut and style. We’ve also been stalking the Rick Owens biker jackets ($3295). The funnel collar is dark and sexy and the body fits like a glove. Over here is a Proenza jacket ($2950) that has the look of a biker style but is made of a fantastic stretch wool.

If you’re looking for something a little more demure, we love a cashmere coat. Here is a version from Acne ($1150) that is a rose petal pink, which looks fantastic against the burned colors of Fall. We love this heather grey Armani double face cashmere wrap coat ($3795). It’s so soft that you’ll never want to take it off. Here is a Ted Baker style ($575) that is much less expensive but offers a similar look.

Once we get into the holiday season, it’s time to bulk it up to keep warm. On the coldest of days, we go for a puffer. Moncler is always a classic choice for a puffer. This season, we suggest going with a bright color. We love this 80s throwback ($1590) in bright red and this velvet puffer ($1295) hits so many trends that it’s very hard to resist adding an extra jacket to existing repertoire. We also love this less expensive option from Hyein Seo ($650) it has all the styling and warmth of the expensive brands for a fraction of the price.

The dressed-up puffer counterpart is a shearling. Marques’Almeida’s version ($3145) is both swanky, warm and stylish. Here is a option from Sandy Ling ($2250) that is business in the front and party in the back. (Let’s call it the mullet of coats.)

As always, online shoppers should take advantage of Nordstrom’s great customer service, which features free shipping and free returns. If only all stores were as easy to shop as Nordstrom.

    Private Lanvin Sale: 90% Off

Some sales are so wonderful that it’s hard to post about them. The current Lanvin sale is one of these sales. The (loosely) invite-only sale started on Monday and offers a great assortment of clothing, shoes, jewelry, bags and accessories for men, women and a tiny rack of kid’s.

All dresses– long and short– are discounted 90%. All other men’s and woman’s merchandise is 80% off retail. Most of the clothing is from 2016 and 2015. We did see some Albert Elbaz throwbacks, which of course, are the nicest. (We snatched a few pictures over here.)

We spotted this metallic lace blouse that was about $400 from $2000 the dress version was even nicer and came to just $385 from $3855, this multi cover silk top that was under $300, this ruffled dress tat comes to about $200 and this ruffled blouse in blue dress is under $300 too. (Over here it’s 70% off, which isn’t bad either.) There was this crepe dress in black, which fits like a glove and is only $170 from $1740.

Shoes are divided by size under the racks of clothing. Most shoes were in the $250 range from $1200. There were some ballet flats but not many in each size. We spotted these heels that are about $220 from $1100. You can see pictures of other bags at the sale right here. Jewelry can be found on a long table. Among the baubles, we spotted a lot of items like this necklace. Prices were about $200 to $500 from $1000 from $2500.

The sale has some bags but we aren’t fans of the current collection. We spotted this hot pink cross body that’s about $300 from $1500. There are also several Jiji styles in various colors, like this stripped version for about $420. (We have pictures over here.)

Men can also make it out big at this sale. We didn’t go through the merchandise closely but an entire half of the showroom is devoted to men’s items. There are also men’s shoes, bow-ties, lapel pins and cufflinks.

This sale is always very civilized and orderly. There is a guard at the door taking names. Sometimes they check the list, sometimes they don’t. If the sale becomes too crowded, we are sure the door policy will become more strict. If you do get in, be kind and make sure to share the one tiny dressing area mirror. It’s a tight squeeze!

    Through Friday, October 20

    StyleBop Discounts Hit 80% Off

StyleBop will be offering a deal that might be hard to refuse. Starting Tuesday, a selection of sale merchandise that is already discounted 70% off will be an extra 20% off. The special promotion runs through Sunday and the total savings are upwards of 80% on some items.

We were actually very surprised about how how many great items we found. Check out this Missoni wool cape that’s $800 from $3400. It’s perfect for the weather right now and is fabulously chic. Here is a Marios Schwab dress that will be about $430 from $1800 and looks made-to-measure once it’s on the body. Over this way, is an Off-White bomber jacket that will come to $400 from $1630.

The extra discount promotion extends beyond the most discounted sale merchandise and can be applied to almost all reduced items. (We just like to target the best deals, of course.) Fendi flats are already rescued 40% and these leather pants will have you ready through the next season.

As far as sales go, StyleBop’s selection seems to be pretty on point. There is even an assortment of sizes still available. Seems like a good opportunity to pick up something extra nice before the holiday shopping begins.

    Inside the Bonpoint Sample Sale

The Bonpoint sample sale doesn’t officially start until tomorrow but there were dozens of eager shoppers vying for VIP access. people when we arrived immediately before the sale opened. This season’s sale is almost identical to past sales season’s.  There seems to be even more inventory than usual.

Most items at the Bonpoint sample sale is at set 60% off the retail sticker. Shoes, pullover sweaters and pants discounted 70%. That means that more formal dresses, which are normally priced in the $300-range are reduced to $120-ish. More casual dresses are about $200 in the boutique and come to about $80 at the sale. Boy’s trousers are about $60 from $150 and collared shirt comes to $48 from $120. (Click here to see lots of pictures from inside the sale.)

The majority of the inventory appears to be from the fall 2016 collection. Sorting through the clothing, there is almost something for everyone. We might go even as far to say that the selection is better than past seasons because there are a lot of classic items, which sometimes don’t make it to the sale. There was even a larger inventory in sizes two and three, which is usually nonexistent.

The sale also includes accessories, coats, blankets, pajamas, jackets and sweaters. Most of the shoppers were loading up full bags of merchandise. We suggest that Bonpoint shoppers head over quickly and those who aren’t can find lots of success at Zara kids.
