    NYFW: Inside Tom Ford FW18

Everything about Tom Ford is sexy. It’s a particular flavor of sexy that draws the curious and causes a slight discomfort. After so many years of turning out sexy collections, we wondered if the designer could could still evoke the same reaction from customers.

We find that Tom Ford often leans on his glam-90s classics, which made an era of Gucci and himself famous. For this collection, there were lots of Tom Ford staples but the designer also added plenty of 2018 twists. Some of the show’s highlights included, puffer jackets in a variety of textures and lengths. The outerwear was never exaggerated enough to be considered oversized but would nonetheless attract the eyes of streetwear hype-junkies. The overcoats, were classically rich and sexy. (Click here for more pictures from the fashion show.)

The collection also incorporated several Instagram-ready hues, like soft and bright yellows, pink, lavender, orange and aqua. The variety is sure to attract the look-at-me generation of Tom Ford fans– millennials. As a matter of fact, we didn’t see a lot of the dark and sexy suits that have always defined the Tom Ford brand. Instead we were served yellow, pink and blue zebra and python print pants and sports jackets with a scattering of classic patterns, like houndstooth. (More pictures are in the jump.)

Part of Ford’s success has always been his unabashed nod to the commercial side of fashion. For the show’s last segment, the music turned to Lana Del Rey’s Young and Beautiful. Dozens of male models walked the runway in nothing but underwear. No doubt, this was a concession given to a highly lucrative licensee.

As Lana Del Ray sings we know that TF is quietly asking:
    Will you still love me
When I’m no longer young and beautiful?

    He already knows the answer:
I know you will, I know you will
    I know that you will

    And yes, we will.

The Chinese New Year is a 15 day-long celebration with innumerable activities, scrumptious food and sparkling spectacle. For the third year in a row, Chinatown’s Madison Street is teaming up with Uptown’s Madison Avenue for the third annual “Madison Street to Madison Avenue” Lunar New Year Event.

Surprise: Neiman Marcus Discounts Hit 85%

We were very excited when Neiman Marcus started to offer an extra 20% off clearance. Then today,  the discounts went lower than we have ever seen. Right now, clearance shoppers can save an additional 30% off clearance merchandise. The big treat is that the online clearance section is scattered with great designer items and the total discount tops 85% on some pieces.

Upon browsing, we found a Victoria Beckham stripped dress is $500 from $2900 and a Brandon Maxwell mini-dress is $400 from $2400. The discount among the shoes isn’t quite as high and sizes are scarce but it still makes sense to cherry pick. Balenciaga thigh-high boots are $500 from $1160, Rene Caovilla
    Butterfly Suede Strass sandals
are $370 from about $1175 and Givenchy suede mules are $312 from $995.

The promotion started today and will run through Wednesday at 10am EST. Neiman Marcus doesn’t do these extra 30% off sales too often (or ever). We suggest you take advantage while the opportunity presents itself. It might take some digging and sorting but there are some great treasures.

Getting to Know: Patron of the New 50% Off

It’s more likely for an Upper East Sider to go to Paris that it is to take the sojourn to Tribeca. After all, the trip to JFK is closer than Nobu Downtown.

After too much time, we finally made it to Tribeca and visited Patron of the New. The fashion-forward boutique carries all of the latest hype brands without a single note of hysteria. We were surprised to find a variety of established and emerging steetwear brands like Off-White, Amiri, Fear of God, Palm Angels, Alchemist and Enfants Riches Déprimés. Let’s put it this way, there are enough $900 sweatshirts to wardrobe the Grammy’s.

As an added bonus, Patron of the New carries a selection for women too. There is a great assortment of brands like Balmain, Off-White for Women, Faith Connexion, Moschino, Ben Taverniti and RtA.

The best part is that there are plenty of racks that are discounted 50% off. (You can click here to see what we spied on sale and other great fashion, not on sale.) We found a classic Balmain dress reduced to $2125 from $4250, a Balmain puffer is about $2900 from $5850 and the classic tank with gold button shoulders is $140 from $280.

Beyond the Balmain selection, we found a Moschino ‘Fauxschino’ tee for about $115 from $235, a Faith Connexion leather biker jacket is $960 from $1920 and RtA’s star lambskin leather pants are $573 from $1146. (Click this way to see more.)

We absolutely fell in love with the store’s jewelry — especially the statement rings. Check out this stunner from Monies and these wood earrings from the same designer. Both are 50% off. There is also a full assortment of Off-White belts and bags  (not on sale). We have pictures in the jump.

You can browse through Parton’s online sale section over here. We do suggest you take the time to go there in person. It’s always inspiring to see fashion in a new and interesting environment.
