The IT-it: The Teardrop Shaped Bag

The new season is upon us and there are new trends to explore. This Spring we will be introduced to the teardrop shape bag. The new silhouette features a rounded sack-type base that culminates with a short middle handle that can be worn as a wristlet.

This trend has a casual feel of a bucket bag with the elegance of a clutch. Unlike a clutch, there is the added hands-free bonus.

Some standout styles for Spring include a Bottega Veneta style, called The Twist,  that is offered in a traditional woven style ($2200) or in flat leather ($1900). S. Joon ($400) is a newcomer to the handbag tab and offers a contemporary priced option of the teardrop shape.  Alaia ($1490) offers its own version ranging from pony hair to its signature laser cut ($2560). Jimmy Choo ($1550) has an evening version with crystals.

If you’re interested in the Bottega Twist, finding a deal isn’t always so simple. We found this orange woven version for $1692 and the flat style for $1616.

The new shape is a welcomed change. It’s a nice excuse to add something new to the collection without feeling it’s a redundant purchase. What do you think of the teardrop shape?

Net-A-Porter & Saks Add Extra Discounts

The Winter sale season is coming to a close and retailers are eager to move any remaining sale merchandise. Today, Net-A-Porter started a one-day extra 15% off promotion and Saks Fifth Avenue will begin a flash sale on Tuesday with discounts topping 75% off.

Only the items indicated are included in the NAP extra discount promotion but there were extra reductions too. Some highlights include this Valentino beach bag that’s now $558 from $1395, Nicholas Kirkwood ankle boots are $625 from $1250, Isabel Marant ankle boots are $444 from $1110, an AWAKE pleated skirt is $250 from $620, and a Dolce & Gabbana sunflower print dress is $770 from $1700.

Take note, the Net-A-Poter sale won’t linger forever and these might be the lowest prices of the season. We are told that the sale section will be removed from the site on January 13. That only gives you one more week of sale-ing.

Heading off the computer and down Fifth Avenue, Saks has started consolidation and gathered nearly all of the store’s sale clothing to the ninth floor. Be sure to check out the full rack of Prada and Miu Miu that’s all reduced 70% off. A blue floral skirt is $318 from about $1030 and a Miu Miu print cardigan is $550 from $1130. We have pictures from the store over here. Online you can snag this blue ruffled skirt for $480 from $1200.

Among the other designer merchandise, we spotted an Henro puffer jacket that comes to $381 from $635 and a Dolce & Gabbana floral print skirt that’s $378 from $945. Online there is a lot of The Row items that are reduced 70%, which is sample sale comparable.  This cashmere and wool sweater is $300 from $990. A Zimmerman sweater is $300 from $800 and this Fendi coat with fur cuffs is $1200 from nearly $4000.

You can click here to see more pictures of what we found at the store. The Saks online flash sale is slated to begin Tuesday morning. We will sure to update prices and merchandise as the promotion goes live.

Weekend Shopping: Scrolling at 70% Off

The weekend is nearly over but there are still so many sales to discuss. Many of the boutiques listed on the Farfetch platform took an extra discount over the weekend resulting a bounty of buys.

Among the noteworthy bags are Fendi’s Upsidedown bag that’s $1700 from $3400, a Givenchy Eden bag for $1425 from $2850, a Tom Ford tote for $996 from $2490 and a Valentino Rockstud bag with a heart for $1650 from $3300. (Is it too early to start thinking of Valentine’s Day?) The shoe selection is pretty good too but it’s safer to sort by your individual size because there are only one or two sizes remaining in each style,

Some other weekend standouts include the Prada & Miu Miu sale at Neiman Marcus. Speaking of shoes, Net-A-Porter added another discount on designer footwear.  Again, you’re going to want to sort by size to eliminate disappointment.

If you’re looking for great “fash-fun,” head to Moda Operandi. Discounts hit 80% off. Daisy earrings from Rebecca de Ravenel are $90 from $300, a set of Roxanne Assoulin bracelets are $132 from $330, a Nanushka vinyl puffer is $200 from $700, and Zimmerman leather pants are about $780 from nearly $2000.

We all know the Golden Globes aren’t that interesting. Happy Scrolling!
