Where to Shop Duty-Free — Before You Can’t

Shopping from Europe is about to get a lot more expensive — even on something as small as a lipstick. Starting August 29, the U.S. is ending its de minimis exemption, which has allowed international orders under $800 to enter duty-free. That means you’ll now be charged import duties on everything you buy, no matter how small. Most European sites already include duties for shipments over $800, but with this change, they’ll now be required to cover all purchases — which means you can expect pricing adjustments across the board. If you’ve been shopping directly from Europe to score better prices, skip U.S. markups, or access hard-to-find items, this is your last chance to do it without the extra fees. Below, I’ve linked some of my favorite European retailers — many offer seasonal codes and exclusive inventory. Come September, even your online cart won’t be immune from the chill.

    Sponsored post
Mytheresa just kicked off a  private Miu Miu sale with discounts up to 50% off—and it’s one of the best we’ve seen this season. Most bags are marked down 40%, including signature. (Here is a link to the men’s selection) Meanwhile, clothing and shoes are 50% off, making this a rare chance to score Miu Miu’s cult pieces at a serious discount. The sale is only 4 days and includes everything from satin ballet flats to logo knits and cropped jackets that defined the brand’s recent runway looks. Inventory is already thinning out in popular sizes, so don’t wait if you’ve had your eye on something.

The final—and most thrilling—Neiman Marcus markdown is here. The third cut just hit, slashing prices to up to 70% off. If you’ve been holding out, now’s the time to strike. The standout this round is the shoe selection, with dozens of Manolo Blahnik styles included in the deepest cut. The clothing section is also stronger than usual for a last-round edit. Nordstrom Designer Markdowns 75% Off

When the heat rises, the real discounts roll in. Nordstrom just started final markdowns and  a huge range of sale styles are  now over 75% off. For designer deals, head to the private sale section with Bottega, Prada, Burberry, and more.

Shopping tip: This time of year, inventory systems struggle to keep up—so cancellations happen. Always take screenshots of what you see and what you buy. The screenshot should be from the retailer’s site. Not a photo from a personal shopper or even a sales associate. The image should include the size, price, and color. If your order gets canceled or the item comes back in stock, you’ll have proof of the lowest price for a price adjustment or price match.
