Saks Emergency EGC with Double Points

Retailers are quacking as the markets tremble and liquidation rumors swirl about big hedge funds like, Atticus Capital. Saks is making economic adjustments faster than the Federal Reserve and holding an emergency gift card event along with double points.

From October 1st to October 5th Saks will be rewarding big spenders with electronic gift cards. The levels are detailed below. I’ll post updates as more info emerges.

    Saks Spend Some, Get Some:
    Spend $1000 – 2499 get $150
    Spend $2500 – 4999 get $375
    Spend $5000 – 9999 get $750
Spend $10000 or more get $1500

    Cynthia, ain’t karma a bitch?

    Hermès Madness

As predicted the Hermès sale was torturous, at least the line to get in. Price are as follows: Scarves $225, ties $102 and Garden Parties are $852 for the PM. The best deals are the saddles which, are $750 down from $4,200. (I can just picture trying to get a cab while toting a horse saddle.)

    One Mad-Spy reader reports:

I went to the Hermes sale and it was pretty large but the line is longer than ever! I got in line at 8:45 and it was already close to 100 people long and I did not get in until 11:30. When I left a little after 12 the line was down 18th street, curved around to 6th ave and I heard it went to 19th. The usual scarves and ties, tons of clothing that no one was touching. Lots of shoes, fragrance, horse things, glass and china 70% off and mainly Garden Party bags. There were no H-belts and only a few other belts, no jewelry, few small leather goods, almost no bracelets just a couple leather ones and all the large sizes of the Garden Party bags are gone.

Racked also has a full play-by-play of the three hour wait, which includes a bit of line cutting scandal. One reader even sent in a full scarf report. I imagine Leslie will be reporting on location again tomorrow morning. Maybe we should partner 50%-50% on tees reading: I survived the Hermes sample sale and all i have to show for it is this crappy silk scarf!

You know, if there’s a three hour line — I ain’t going. But please continue to send me your stories. I love them!

    Bloomies Private Sale

For some reason I have always found Bloomingadales confusing. The actual physical store is so vast that you can easily get lost and their sales are the same story.

I hope to get this one straight: Starting tomorrow, Bloomies is launching a private sale that runs until Thursday (9/23 to 9/25). I’m trying to keep all the offers in order. Please correct me if I’m mistaken anywhere.

    Here goes:
First there is a more-you-spend-the-more-you-save type of promotion where if you spend $250 to $499 you get 20% off, and 30% off if you spend above $500.

On top of that, there are $25 coupons floating around the mail. If you don’t have them go to the customer service desk and they will replace the ones “you forgot at home.” So for every $100 you spend you can use one of these $25 coupons up to 4 or $100 worth.

So lets say you find a $500 DVF dress. First you get 30% off, which brings the purchase price down to $350 and then your coupons are good for another $75 savings, which brings the total price of your DVF dress down to $275 for a savings of 45%.

As usual there are lots of exclusions and additional promotions going on in the store –like in the denim and shoes. So grab a cab and go directly to Lex and 59th!

    Sale Reminders

    Saks Friends and Family

Rumor has it that the Fall Saks Friends and Family event will be from October 16th to October 19th. I’m still waiting on conformation but the last friends and family was in April and most items throughout the store were 20% to 30% off. Even cosmetics, which NEVER go on sale, were 15% off. So check your makeup bag and start making a list of what you need because this sale only comes around twice a year.

Don’t fret too much if you miss the F&F. In past seasons the store hosts a “public” sale right after. However, lots of times the best of the good stuff is gone already. We won’t let that happen though. I’ll keep you posted and make sure you get into the friends and family pre-sale!

Ralph Lauren Friends and Family 30% Off

This afternoon Ralph Lauren sent out a 30% off discount to friends and family. Turns out that someone on the RL team forgot to read the fine print. Upon trying to purchase the $17,000 purple croc Ricky Bag –I promise it was only research– the code wouldn’t work.

Turns out the Ralph Lauren folks made a mistake with the fine print. Purple Label and collection items, including crocodile Ricky bags were not supposed to be included in the sale. When I called to point out that the code wasn’t working I was first told, too bad. Later a manager came on the phone and said that they would honor the the promo because a correction is warranted.

To get 30% off most items on RalphLauren.com and Rugby.com use the code RFLA2008. If the code doesn’t work for the item you desire call the assistance hotline and say that you spoke to Maya and manager, Jaime. Whomever you speak to should be able to extend the discount.

Below is the faulty fine print that can save you $5,100:

    True Love: ITO EN

In this hectic world we live in it’s so easy to forget to take care of yourself. However, I believe that you should take as much time to consider your insides as you do your outsides. That’s why I make a concerted effort to ingest as many antioxidants as possible. Green tea is one of my favorites.

Studies report hard evidence that green tea prevents cancer, keeps down cholesterol levels, keeps cardiovascular disease in check and helps repair impaired immune function. That’s a lot of punch for a little leaf.

My favorite green tea is Ito En, on Madison at 69th Street. The purveyors of this little tea shop happen to be the largest green tea distributor in the world. The store has been voted NYC’s best tea emporium by Zagat’s for several years in a row. In addition to the company’s line of bottled teas, the store carries Japanese, Chinese and Indian tea leaves both traditional and exotic. Everything is packaged and handled as if it were a precious jewels.

So give air kisses to Cono at Dolce & Gabbana and refresh with some green tea from across the street at Ito En. You can also find Ito En teas at many grocers and bodegas across the city (country & world). It’s definitely worth the $1.49.

    Luca Luca Private Sample Sale

You know how much I dislike sample sales, right? The real reason is because of how sample sales are defined these days. All types of sales, which include previous collections, are called sample sales. In fact, a real sample sale is when the designer sells the “samples” used for showing buyers. These sales usually take place in a showroom rather than an empty warehouse or holed out party venue (read: Metropolitan Pavilion).

One of our favorite design houses, Luca Luca, is having a REAL sample sale and we have an invite to check out the goods two days prior to the general public. The Private sale takes place on Tues. 9/23 and Wed. 9/24. You need to RSVP to gain early admission. The email address is RSVP@LucaLuca.com or you can call 212-644-5568.

If you are unable to get a reservation time you can always join the public Thurs. 9/25 to Sun 9/28. The sale is up to 90% off so I expect that there will be a long line to get into the showroom. Full time details for all sale days are available below.
