    Arrivederci Krizia

April started without a joke or even the air of irony. Krizia is gone. The store, located at Madison and 66th , for about 15 years is now no longer there. Another casualty of the financial crisis? Indeed.

Krizia was always one of the consolations of age. The style is unexpected and ironic but maybe two decades too old for us. In time we always thought it would be a great spot to mature.

We will miss running down the store’s marble steps and falling upon an exquisitely crafted clothing for 70% off. Its presence will be missed.

    Ageless Beauty

We’ve never purchased a George Foreman Grill, a Clapper or Spray on Hair. Hell, we’re not even fond of Internet shopping. That’s why we were so dubious about meeting dermatologist Adrienne Denese, who is launching several of her SkinScience products on QVC on Friday night at midnight.

First, lets talk about Dr. Denese. She is Hungarian born and received her medical training from Cornell and a Ph. D. from Harvard. She is all about the science of looking great and ageless. Of course our first question was, can you ever be too young for Botox? Her answer, a concrete, “yes.” Apparently, some longtime Botox users have noticed loss of effectiveness. The horror!

Dr. Denese is clearly an established expert. She has a treasure of information to share and has some pretty interesting products too. One product is Glow Younger Self Tanner. Like most of you, we’re not fans anything fake. The cool thing about this tanner is that it’s a clear gel that has absolutely no smell. Not even the wrench of a fragrance free product.

Speaking of the sun, “Absolutely don’t,” insists Dr. Denese. If you’re looking for the sun’s natural vitamin D– which you should–head to your local GNC rather than the beach. Dr. Denese suggests 1000 or 2000 micrograms daily as a cancer preventative. Dr. Denese’s SPF 30 Defense Day Cream wards off both UVA and UVB rays, in addition to providing moisturizer, antioxidants and zinc-oxide. The really unique feature of this product is that it is tinted with melanin, so it enhances your unique skin tone without looking “off color.”

Bottom line, Dr. Denese is a skin science guru and coupled with the hypnotic effect of QVC is sure to be entertaining and informative.

    Ralph Lauren Friends and Family

Ralph Lauren is hosting another 30% off friends and family sale from today until Tuesday, April 14th. Take notice, in the fine print, women’s Collection apparel and men’s Purple Label apparel are not included. However, we did find a classic black Ricky bag in the sale section that was almost $2300 to start and ends up costing $1365 after the friends and family discount.

Still, spending $1300 for a bag right now seems very 2007. Nonetheless, the sale section has some great buys and many of them are under $100.

    Scoop Sale Review

As promised we hit the Scoop sale and were pleasantly pleased. We spotted: Paige Denim for $75, a DVF dress for$120, Marc by Marc Jacobs jackets for $120, Rag & Bone blazers for $150, lots of Tory Burch for under $100, and a long Missoni gown for $400.

The best included black Roberto Cavalli dresses that were $1295 but reduced to $150. Our fitting room neighbor found a gorgeous Chloe knit that ended up costing her about $260. Sadly, the Alaia sweaters were still over a grand and some other Missoni dresses were still rather pricey.

The sale was a one day event but we have a feeling that what ever is left will stay, maybe without the additional 25%. Either way be on the look out for a bowl of cocktail rings near the register. They were originally $100, marked down to $9 and with the extra 75% off was $7. Great for gifts!

    Scoop Consolidation Sale

Today we got an email about 75% off at Scoop. We know that song seemed familiar so we looked in our archives and found that Scoop had a 75% off sale way back in January. We were not thrilled about seeing the same old fall 2008 threads but we were still curious.

We put in a call to our favorite Scoop sale person and stylist extraordinaire and asked her for the real deal. Ranee told us that all the leftover inventory from all the Scoop stores in the country (11 stores in total) have consolidated their inventory on Third Avenue.

She said there’s lots of very expensive clothing that was already 75% to 85% off and now it’s an additional 25% off the tagged price. Expect to see lots of $3000 Missoni and Alaia reduced to $300 or $400. Now these are prices we can sink our credit cards into.

Stay tuned. We will be twittering live from the sale first thing in the morning and post a wrap-up here so that you’re sure not to miss a single Matthew Williamson.

    Off Season Shopping

This is one of the hardest times of the year for shoppers like us. The new collection is in, the weather is still cold and prices are still high. What’s a shopper to do?

Go online. Normally we are not big fans of shopping online and those sample sale sites really remove all the fun from our sport. However, it’s worth keeping your eyes open. For example, last May, Neiman Marcus threw their overstock Manolos online and were blowing them out for just about $100.

Then last night, on Saks.com, we came across $795 Louboutins marked down to $277. There was one size and guess what? The shoe fit!

Barneys.com has $430 classic pump Miu Mius marked down to $169. Bottom line: No matter the season a good deal can be found.
