    Barneys Spend and Get

These gift card promotions are starting to feel a lot like a Macy’s one day sale. Their popularity, however, indicates that they drive sales.

This time the gift card is coming from Barneys where for every $250 you spend, you receive a $25 gift card. Spend $250 get $25. Spend $500, get $50. Spend $750, get $75. You get the picture. The promotion runs from April 16th to April 19th.

This seems to be a big week for department store promotions and unless you’re shopping Lanvin go for the Saks friends and family 25% off discount.

Bloomingdales Cocktails and Discounts for Men

We found this men’s promotion on one of our favorite sites: Party Crasher!

On Wednesday, April 15th from 6pm to 10pm men –and women–can enjoy cocktails and discounts tomorrow in the men’s department of both Manhattan Bloomingdales locations. The more you spend the better the discount:

    Spend $200 to $499.99 and save 20%
    Spend $500 to $749.99 and save 25%
Spend more than $750 and save 30%

Chanel Pulls Out of Bloomies Friends and Family

Bloomingdales is hosting a friends and family event from April 23rd to April 26th. The discount throughout much of the store will be 20%. Presale is already in progress.

Usually Chanel participates in friends and family with a gift card incentive. For example, spending $500 earns you a $100 gift card and spending $1000 earns you a $200 etc. We hear that preselling for Chanel was crazy and 90% of the stock room is filled from floor to ceiling.

However, Chanel customers-to-be were blindsided when they received the following information from their sales manager:

    Good afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.

I am very saddened to have to write to all of you, to notify you that Chanel has decided to withdraw from the friends & family event here @ Bloomingdales. The EGC offer no longer stands valid. We have tried to arrange compensation for those of you that were already promised an EGC, but sadly there is nothing they will allow us to offer to you.

For those of you that have already placed orders/requests, please note: they will be voided, unless you call or reply to keep them active
    .

Again, i am so very sorry for the misleading information. We were told early on that the offering would be the same as years past, but upon revision, Chanel decided that this promotion was not appropriate for their brand.

I thank you all (as always) for your business.
If I may answer any questions, please feel free to reply, or to call our handbag boutique.

    Sincerely,
    CHANEL Shoppe Manager

Who do you think are more upset: the disappointed customers or the commissioned sales people?

    Krizia Relocated

Earlier this month we wrote about Krizia closing their doors after 15 years. We are happy to report that the Italian design house did not abandon Madison Avenue but rather moved two blocks uptown to a smaller location.

The smaller revival is just two blocks up on 68th street. The spot housed Moschino in the 90s and most recently Searle. Sources say that prime space, like this, can be had for about $400 sq. ft. Last year, the asking price was about $1000 sq. ft.

The slimmed down version of Krizia doesn’t seem as ritzy but in this economy it may be a smart move. After all, we can’t remember the last time we saw anyone else in the store.

    Saks Friends and Family

Saks Friends and Family is scheduled to run from Thursday, April 16th until Sunday, April 19th. The discount is 25% off, an unprecedented 20% off for jewelry, 15% off for cosmetics. Presale starts Monday, April 13th.

In addition to the F&F discount Saks card holders will receive triple points when using their Saks card. As a further incentive, the store is offering a 12 month interest free MPA –major purchase account — for purchases over $2000.

Some brands like Chanel, Louboutin, Prada, David Yurman, H. Stern, Cartier and Bulgari are not included in the 20% off discount but shoppers can still receive triple points and are eligible for MPAs regardless of brand.

    Missoni Discounted

We don’t get across the park often but one reason to take the bus across 79th Street is Filene’s Basement. The merchandise isn’t as interesting or diverse as Century 21 but you don’t have to deal with crowds or tourists either.

This week friends told us that Filene’s received a major shipment of Missoni summer clothing that should not be missed. Swimsuits, which run about $320 at the Madison Avenue boutique, range from $99 to $130 at the Basement. Beach towels– a great hostess gift– are $30. There are also lots of traditional Missoni patterned and knit dresses.

Yes, the prices are good but after a while one wonders how much Missoni can a person wear without feeling like they are wearing the same thing over and over. So scout it out and just pick your favorites because like everything moderation is key.

Chloe Paraty Better with the Euro

We are big fans of Bag Snob or anything snobby for that matter. While checking out what’s new and hot we came across a post about the Chloe Paraty bag going 30% off. Normally a 30% off bag sale would not be worth mentioning except that the Paraty bag doesn’t seem to go on sale.

Whenever Chloe has their in store sale the Paraty is excluded. They don’t go on sale at Saks or Bergdorfs either. So 30%–if you like the bag– is a reasonable deal.

However, the Bag Snobs missed a major point. LuisAviaRoma.com, which is hosting the sale, is a European company and all prices are quoted in euros. The green Paraty started off at €1125 and is €788 with the 30%. Convert that to dollars and the final cost is $1060. That’s 45% off the original price of $1900-ish.

So hurray to Bag Snob for sniffing out a great deal but never forget about working in the currency exchange– for better or worse!

Now, what’s your opinion of the Sally?
