    Posh Sale For Lighthouse International

Every year, Lighthouse International hosts an amazing designer sale. There are vintage cloths, new designer cloths, shoes, jewelry, belts, hats. Basically, if it’s fashion it’s for sale. Designer donations include, Chanel, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Prada, Marni and so on and so forth.

We were offered a peak in the fashion closet today and found an Oscar de la Renta dress for $150, a Matthew Williamson top for $125 (sure beats H&M) and a vintage Victor Costa for $150. We also found Prada, Chanel and Manolo Blahnik shoes priced from $75 to $100. However, the most exciting find was the “Kim Cattrall shoe box.” The Sex and the City star donated dozens of some of the most gorgeous shoes imaginable. Inside the box were rhinestone encrusted Giuseppe Zanotti ($200 to $250), black satin Sonia Rykiel pumps with large gems ($300), nude jeweled Valentinos ($250) and Manolos iced with jewels ($400).

All of the money raised from the Posh Sale benefits Lighthouse International, a non-profit organization whose mission is to fight vision loss through prevention, treatment and empowerment. The event runs from Wednesday, May 13 to Sunday, May 17. Tickets to the Sneak Preview and Cocktail Party cost $250 and $200, respectively. And you know those with the first dibs will take all the top picks. The more economical daily tickets cost $10 and those can’t stay away can buy a four day pass for $30.

    YSL Private Sale Begins, Officially

This afternoon I got the following voice mail message:

Hi this is a message for Lila. This is Charles from Yves Saint Laurent. I’m calling you because we are going on sale. So give me a call when you get a chance. The number here is 212-980-2901.

I call back to get the scoop but Charles was with a custmer. So I asked the sales assocaite who answered the phone, “Can you tell me the current markdown.”

The associate replies, “There’s no markdown. Everything is still full price. We don’t go on sale until June.”

I respond, “Then why did Charles just leave me a voice mail about a sale.”

She answers, “Oh the private sale. I’ll have to put you through to Charle’s mailbox.”

I leave Charles a message and he calls me back a bit later and says, “Oh Lila, would you believe all ready-to-wear is 50% off and shoes and bags are 40% and 50% off.”

And that’s the way it all goes down in the boiler room of luxury fashion.Oh and just an FYI, markdowns at ysl.com are already live.

Tune in tomorrow for a transcript of a conversation with Gucci.

    Madison Unofficially on Sale

We had an exhausting day of shopping and we didn’t even make it half way down the Avenue. Even on a nice day like today the stores were empty. Not a credit card swipe to be found. This being the case we got extra attention and had some time to talk to our favorite sales people. Everyone we spoke to offered us a presale option although sales aren’t officially expected to start until 5/15.

We still have a lot more shopping to do on Monday but here’s the current sales information update going down from 80th Street:

Missoni: The sale officially started Thursday and the entire spring/summer collection is 40% to 50% off. For the first time ever, bathing suits and spring scarves are included in the sale. Prices of swim suits range from $420 to $620 and are now reduced to $220 to $313.

Intermix: A private sale is going on where all designer clothing is 40% off. Chloe, Stella McCartney, Valentino Red, Matthew Williamson are just some of the collections included in the sale. We were drooling over a $2,700 Williamson caftan, which is now reduced to $1620.

    Crowd control: Two other shoppers
    Contact: Rachel 212-249-7858

YSL:The sale hasn’t started yet but it’s expected to break next week. The discount will range from 30% to 40% but a second markdown should come quickly because prices are still too high.

    Crowd Control: Zero shoppers
    Contact: Michael 212-988-3821

Prada: The sale is slated to start mid-month. Even so, the collection is a disaster. Did we miss something or is there nothing to buy even if under $100?

    Crowd Control: Zero shoppers
    Contact: Janic 212-327-4200

Chloe: “I’ll tell my manager that you’re a good customer and we can put this on presale for you.” The sale will officially begin next week and the discount “should be 40% to 50%.”

    Crowd Control: Zero shoppers

    F.P. Journe Moves to Madison

With Madison Avenue rents on the decline, vacant shops are attracting a new flock of tenants.

Swiss watchmaker, F.P. Journe is taking over the 800-sq-ft former Graff jewelry store at 721 Madison Ave. between 63rd and 64th streets. While the company has stores in cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong and Geneva, they didn’t open their fist US store until December 2009 in Boca Raton, Fla. The Madison Avenue location will be the company’s first in New York.

Many real estate experts see F.P. Journe’s decision to open the Manhattan flagship as a direct correlation to falling rents. Experts say rents are down about 25% from their highs about 18-months ago when real-estate owners were asking $1000 to $1500 a ft. Asking prices today hover around $700 to $1,200 a foot.

If J.P. Journe is any indication, we will be seeing a lot less banks on Madison and a lot more independent companies.

    Saks Private Night 40% Off

The Saks mayhem all started this winter with Private Night. (Don’t know what we’re talking about click here to get the details.) They started with a 30% discount but then upped it to 40% and then history was made with 70% off sales.

Well, Private Night is upon us again and runs for two days, Thursday, May 7th and Friday, May 8th. We expect the discount to be 40% off but everone from the corporate offices to the sales floor seems unsure on how this whole sales thing is going to take its course.

We hear that the top brass is waiting for Bergdorfs are Barneys to break first. Bergdorfs has a will of steal when it comes to sale season so it’s going to have to be Barneys. The only question that remains is if the Private Night discount will turn into a full blown markdown or and at sundown Friday. We imagine that the 40% off will stick around for a while but don’t expect any 70% off savings until at least mid-June.

    Barry Kieselstein-Cord Sample Sale

When Cece Cord broke away from Barry Kieselstein his brand seemed took a bit of a beating. That being said, the company still has belts, bags and jewelry that are really unique and dazzling.

Finding a good sale on these goods has been nearly impossible but that’s all about to change. This week Barry Kieselstein-Cord is hosting a sample sale. Yes, it’s Barry Kieselstein’s sale and not a sample sale company. So we’re expecting it to be good.

We called over and were told that handbags, silver buckles, belt straps and sliver jewelry will be included. Our source said that prices will be 20% to 40% off retail but we have a feeling she was being modest. From the sound of the hesitation in her voice we would say that prices will be 60% to 80% off.

Once the sale starts we will be sure to send a more detailed sale update. Sale details are below:

Thursday, May 7th to Saturday, May 9th
    Thursday 12 pm – 7 pm, Friday 8 am – 7 pm and Saturday 9 am – 4 pm
    The Warwick Hotel
65 West 54th Street, Essex Suite on the 2nd Floor
Cash and major credit cards accepted
