There are lots of great gift items as well as classic pieces that are perfect for when school starts up again. Stock up now while the selection is still good.

    Gucci 2nd Markdown

Retailers were all psyched not to replay this winter’s quick and furious price reductions. They are, however, realizing that their inventory is not wine, and will not appreciate with age. Just 10 days ago Gucci officially started their semi-annual sale and they are already knocking the prices down again from to 60% off. The discount is currently 40% off.

Most ready-to-wear will be included in the extra markdown. We are told that only select shoes, handbags and accessories will discounted further. The additional price reduction officially starts Friday but stores will honor the new prices starting Thursday.

Will prices go to 75% off? Lila says: “Absolutely!”

    Jimmy Choo Bigger Discount

It’s been three weeks since Jimmy Choo started their 30% off sale but apparently the small discount wasn’t enough to move spring/summer merchandise. Customers all over the city are getting phone calls from hungry sales associates who are trying to lure customers into the store to pre-sell items, which officially go on sale for 50% off on Friday.

We are told that even the Riki bag is 50% off. The original price was $1,895 and it sold out on Net-A-Porter when it was reduced to $1,147. We wonder what bag fans will do when they find out their favorite purse is now under a grand.

    Lila Dishes for MSN Money

Lila speaks to MSN Money about how to get a better deal at high-end boutiques and department stores.

Lila Delilah, the founder of Madison Avenue Spy, has found that boutiques offer discounts upon a hint. She was looking at a children’s coat that was 30% off and remarked that she saw it for 50% off the previous season. The owner immediately offered an additional break.

“I have a friend that’s been walking into every boutique she goes into and asking for the ‘recession price.’ Amazingly, she’s getting 25% to 30% off just by asking for it,” Delilah said.

When you’re dropping a small fortune. At high-end department stores, if you spend more than $15,000 or $20,000 in a single visit, you can usually get 20% off the entire purchase, Delilah said.

“Stores that sell Christian Louboutin shoes, you can say, ‘These are very expensive. Is there any way you could give me something off?'” Delilah said. “In this economy, everybody’s looking to crack a deal. If you’re ‘spending bank,’ there’s going to be more flexibility.”

    eLuxury Closing June 26th

eLuxury is officially closing its doors or in web terms, pulling the plug on their ecommerce operation. The site launched in 2000 as part of the Internet gold rush. LVMH’s Bernard Arnault planned to float eLuxury on the public market along with his other Internet properties like, Ashford.com and Shephora.com.

In January 2000, Women’s Wear Daily quoted Mike May, a digital commerce analyst and Internet consultant at Jupiter Communications. “The timing is not bad for an IPO,” he said. “Luxury is one of the hottest topics for IPOs, especially with
what Sotheby’s and eBay are doing online.”

What a difference a decade makes. In January, LVMH announced that eLuxury would cease retail operations and open a stand-alone site for Louis Vuitton. A spokesperson for the company said the decision was based on the fact that many of the brands it sells have developed their own online presences.

We’re sure the changed economy had nothing to do with the decision but then again bricks-and-clicks was a novel theory. In the meantime, watch the sales as the impending date approaches there should be some great discounts.

    New iPhone June 19th

Okay. This isn’t a sale thing but my phone is almost three years old and I am dying to get a new one. I am not very good about charging my phone so the iPhone 3G has never been very attractive. Hence the off topic post. This evening, Apple announced it’s newest iPhone– the 3GS –that will be released on June 19th.

The newest iPhone version will record video and allow you to edit video and pictures. The new phone has longer battery life (yay) cut and paste (yay), voice activated calling and commands (eh) and text messaging with photos and video (yay.) Oh yeah, and it’s fast, the “S” in 3GS supposedly stands for speed.

The 16-gigabyte iPhone 3GS will cost $199 while the 32-gigabyte model will cost $299. The original eight-gigabyte iPhone 3G will drop to $99 from $199.

Enough with the geek talk, we’ll let Racked.com give us the play-by-play availability score once the phone drops in 11 days. In their words, it’s sure to be an iPhrenzy.

    Dunhill First Markdown

Discounts in men’s boutiques traditionally starts a few weeks later than women’s wear. This weekend, Alfred Dunhill started their first markdown where most seasonal clothing, shoes and accessories are 30% off. Classic wool suits and blazers are about the only items not on sale. Cuff links, pens, belts and small leather goods are also being discounted 30%.

The greatest value is in the watch department where the discount is 60%. The company is awaiting a revamped line of timepieces and closing out the styles that are currently in stock. Before you male watch snobs turn up your nose, remember Dunhill is owned by Richemont Group, which also owns watch companies like Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Piaget, Vacheron Constantin and Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Towards the real end of the season the Dunhill discount usually closes in at 60% across the collection. We are told that there was a big budget cut this season and there isn’t as much inventory as usual. Truth or come-on? We’ll let you decide.
