    The RealReal Mad-Spy Deal

All this warm weather has us fishing for spring-like clothing. While searching our closets for weather-appropriate wears, we couldn’t help ourselves from noticing how much of our belongings go unused.

It’s been several years since we’ve rocked that red Chanel bag and that Hermes duffel hasn’t seen the light of day for almost a decade. Prada shoes from 2006 have been worn exactly twice and we never should have purchased that Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress in size tiny.

Seems like the ideal time to arouse that organizing hormone and cash in unused fashion into Summer 2012’s best purchase. Our first call is always The RealReal. The online luxury designer consignment store offers more than any other outlet we can find. The RealReal consignors earn 60% of the sale price. Then when you reach sales of $1,500 per year, your rate increases to 70% for the remainder of that calendar year. Try topping that!

For the next 30 days, Madison Avenue Spy readers will get a $50 site credit when they consign 10 or more items and mention Madison50. If you need some guidance, don’t worry. The RealReal offers white glove service and will personally pick up items from the New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco areas.

So round up your Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Chanel, Prada and Gucci. It’s time to sell sell sell.

    Jimmy Choo at DSW

    By ManhattanMataHari

With the warm weather rapidly approaching, replacing our favorite worn out wedge sandals from last spring is a top shopping priority. We stopped by the DSW in Union Square to see what designer items were in stock, at a discount of course. Head straight to the back clearance racks where with a bit of patience you can find spring and summer footwear discounted 30% to 40%, while boots and pumps are discounted up to 70%.

Fans of Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, Ralph Lauren purple label, Badgley Mischka and Giuseppe Zanotti will fare best. However, our favorite finds for the day were a couple lovely pairs of patent Jimmy Choo sandals, both now $420.

Exotic skin Sergio Rossi pumps and Giuseppe Zanotti nude patent slingbacks are both marked down to $280 with a 30% cut. The best deals were on Stuart Weitzman and Ralph Lauren purple label shoes, both marked down 70% off. A pair of Weitzman orange snakeskin espadrille wedges are now a mere $39 while purple label suede loafer pumps are now $180 from $600.

We forecast that a bother markdown is still a few weeks away. Even though the best clearance merchandise can be found in stores, online shoppers won’t regret clicking around in the DSW luxury section. In the clearance section we found $99 Gucci flip-flops and $99 gold Gucci slides.

    Getting Marni x H&M

It was just four days ago that the Marni collection for H&M launched to much fanfare. As expected, customers waited throughout the night to be the first to get their hands on the low-priced designer goods.

Many “hoarders” shopped the collection in hopes of turning a profit on eBay. The flipping of collar merchandise usually pays off. For instance, with this collection a $19 sequined collar already sold on eBay for $472, a spotted black coat that was $129 sold for $360 and a $129 maxi dress was given to the highest bidder for $355.

If you’re a Marni fan, you can trust that there’s still time score some lucky finds. The H&M return policy requires that all collaboration merchandise be returned within 10 days of purchase. So if you’re looking to take home a little Marni for yourself, you may want to hover around the return counter. For those keeping count, Sunday, March 18th is exactly ten days from the Marni launch.

While spying the return counter of our local H&M today, we found a Marni print tote bag, a print skirt with a matching top, several pairs of shoes and the iconic brown leather front shift top. A floor manager confirmed that the H&M 10-day return policy translates to a quick boomerang effect. He predicts that the deluge of returned merchandise will be brought back to the store over the weekend.

For those still skeptical, just imagine that we found a pair of H&M/Versace shoes today. They were in perfect condition and reduced to just $20 from a start price of $69. This is just one of the many reasons why you should avoid the “eBay premium.”

    Mackage Sample Sale

We always suggest stocking up on a hot item when it’s least needed. This season’s unseasonably warm weather left lots of excess winter coat inventory, which means it’s the perfect time to shop for next winter.

The upcoming Mackage sample sale, which starts Thursday, is prime for the picking. This annual event is not usually very remarkable but this time around we have a hunch that there will be lots of great merchandise from which to choose.

We are told that the discount will range from 30% to 50% off and include both the men’s and women’s collections. At the last winter sale a wool coat with leather detailed pockets was $260 from $590 and double-breasted coat with patch pockets and leather detail was $298 from $595. This season, we would also expect several puffer styles.

    The It-it: The Mini Bag

Our unseasonably warm weather could easily be a cruel pre-April fools joke. Nonetheless, we can’t help wanting to shed winter bulk. The first item that needs to lighten up is our handbag.

We are really enjoying the high fashion take on the mini-bag.  Below we have a Celine Nano Luggage Tote, a Chanel Wallet on a Chain, a bright pink Prada Mini, a small Chloe Sally, Proenza Schouler’s small PS11 and Hermes small Constance bag. Most styles double as cross-body versions of larger iconic purses.

If you’re worried about how to downsize from your over sized handbag we suggest taking it down to the bare minimum and working up. After all, what more do you need than a lipstick, keys, phone and a credit card?mini bags
