Joe Fresh Comes to Madison Avenue

Joe Fresh, a Canadian fashion love child between H&M and Zara, will be opening their first New York boutique on Madison Avenue on Thursday. The store, located at 1055 Madison Avenue, at 80th Street, is supposedly just a pop-up store to prepare for the unveiling of several more stores throughout the tri-state area.

Most items at Joe Fresh are priced around $100 and many are below the $50 mark. We checked out the boutique while staff were putting on the finishing touches. We saw a table full of colorful sweaters, lots of tweed coats and work-appropriate outfits. We are told that those merino wool sweaters will retail for $49, while a metallic pleated miniskirts will sell for just $39.

Low-cost fast-fashion is a new concept for Madison Avenue, which is more known for items that cost the same as a mortgage payment. In this case, we welcome any impulse purchase that costs less than a Tom Ford lipstick.

    Saks Friends & Family

The amount of exclusions associated with any department store promotion reads like the ingredients of a Twinkie. We are starting to think it might be easier to make a list of items that are included in the shopping incentive.

If you’re not worried about getting wrinkles from studying the fine print, you may want to take advantage of Sak’s Fifth Avenue’s Friends & Family promotion. The discount will run from Monday, October 10 through Saturday, October 22. The discount on clothing and accessories is 20% off and online shoppers can use the codes: FRIEND9.

We actually went though the full list of exclusions (ordering botox as we complete this post) and found a few interesting items that are actually in the sale. For readers that have children or shop for kids, you can use the friends and family discount on almost the entire children’s department. Only Little Marc Jacobs, kid’s UGGs, Prada shoes and Gucci shoes are blacked out. Housewares is also a good department to hit up.

Of the more popular clothing brands sold at Saks, DVF, Milly, Vince, Rag & Bone and Tory Burch, Theory are included in the sale. Now, please excuse me while I massage my crow’s feet.

Dior, YSL, Fendi & Prada at TJ Maxx

We have come to adore the TJ Maxx at Columbus Square almost as much as we love Whole Foods. During a recent trip we found an unexpected array of designer shoes, accessories and clothing.

Following our own advice, we headed straight to “The Runway” section that is delineated by lavender signs. A table of yellow Fendi boxes first caught our eye. Upon the table we found lots of designer iPad accessories. A hot pink leather YSL iPad case was $280 from a suggested retail of $450 and a Fendi rubber iPad protector was $100 from $150. In the same area we also found an interesting unknown Italian designer bag made of mink and leather for $230.

Further along, we spotted a lone nude silk and sequined Versace dress for $400 from $1000, a very Fall 2011 cashmere Ralph Lauren Black Label cape for $500 from $1250 and a Black Label shearling jacket for $700. The store tags were still on the shearling jacked and showed a retail price of $3,600!

In addition to the more expensive high-end designer clothing, we found lots of McQ by Alexander McQueen priced almost as attractively. A two tone wrap dress from last year is $130 from $325. (The same dress is $425 on Yoox.com.) A McQ silk dress with zippers is $200 and an iconic print seethe is $300.

Shoe lovers brace yourself. We found Dolce & Gabbana sandals, Miu Miu pumps, Christian Dior slingbacks and last season’s Prada patent two-tone pumps all priced at $300. We dare you to find a single pair of shoes on the 8th floor of Saks priced under $300.

See, it’s even better than organic veges!

    Scoop Warehouse Sale Fizzles

    By TJ Kennedy

The final consolidation of the Scoop Warehouse Sale is well underway at the Meatpacking location. Although the racks are stocked, it takes quite a bit of determination to find a stand out piece that is actually in your size.

The top floor is mostly summer tanks and jeans, with a few exceptional Missoni print tops & dresses. Prices, unfortunately, still range around $1,000. The jeans, however, were marked down a fair amount. Pairs that retailed for almost $300 were down to just $100. If you’re in the market for denim, now is the time to pounce.

The downstairs selection of accessories is grim, but there were several light sweaters that are ideal for this time of year. There are very few pairs of shoes, no handbags, and a ton of belts. A gorgeous hunter green Marc Jacobs wool jacket caught everyone’s eye, but only large sizes were left.

The men’s selection was much more plentiful, with John Varvatos tees for $50, Rag & Bone knit sweaters around $200, and cashmere crew sweaters from a variety of designers. Might we suggest picking up a thing or two for your over-worked, under-styled boyfriend?

While prices were generally marked down just 50%, an employee pointed out that select items would be further discounted at the register. We assume the deals will get better as the sale continues but we wouldn’t suggest attending with very high hopes.

    Saks Gift Card Event

Saks Fifth Avenue is gearing up for their September electronic gift card promotion. The shopping incentive starts September 30 and goes through October 1. Online shoppers can take advantage of the campaign starting immediately.

    Here’s the September breakdown:
if you spend… you get a giftcard for…
    $250-$499 …$25
    $500-$999… $50
    $1000-$1999… $100
    $2000-$2999 …$300
    $3000 or more …$450

Unfortunately, there are lots of restrictions but that won’t stop us from browsing. Today we hit the 8th floor– otherwise known as 10022-SHOE– to scope out the hottest and sexiest shoes of the season. Top contenders include, Nicholas Kirkwood’s metallic emerald python sandals ($1495), Prada’s knee-high leather boots with a covered platform ($1200) and Christian Dior’s lace-up bootie ($1100). Of course, anything that is sparkly is highly desirable this season, that includes Miu Miu glitter pumps ($1195) and two tone Chanel glitter pumps ($895).

You can actually browse the best of the 8th floor shoes collection and vote for your favorite right here. Sure there’s a $10,000 grand prize for participating but it’s just novel to browse beyond the normal online shopping selection. So, which do you think is the hottest shoe?

    Discount Missoni, Beyond Target

    By: ManhattanMataHari

Do not despair if you missed out on the chaos that was the Missoni for Target launch. There are plenty of places in Manhattan to get your discount Missoni fix without sacrificing on the quality from the bonafide items. We have put together a list of the best places to go for discounted Missoni. We know that the prices still aren’t as low as the Target collab but the headaches are much less too.

    Filene’s Basement @ Union Square
40 East 14th Street, New York
    212-358-0169

The Filene’s Basement, in Union Square, is stocked with racks of the Italian designer’s original Missoni line in both the women’s and men’s sections. Prices range from $80 to $700. Finely woven wool blazers and elegantly tailored jackets are the more pricey items. The most wanted items, knit sweaters are $360. Lightweight silk print tops and sweaters are a bit more budget friendly at $300. We also spotted a few embellished and woven Missoni gowns in “The Vault” for $600. For the fashionista on a budget, we found it hard to resist the $40 socks and woven Missoni hosiery, including $80 thigh-high socks perfect for wearing under boots with a skirt.

Keep in mind that these prices are just temporary. Filene’s tends to mark down items very quickly. Before you know it the collection will be an extra 75% off and that Missoni coat and gown will be just $150.

    TJ Maxx Columbus Square
    808 Columbus Ave @99th Street
    212-222-0543

At the farthest most uptown TJ Maxx, we spied enough M by Missoni to make you mind zig-zag. Most dresses that incorporated the iconic knit were priced at $230 (retail $460) and long cardigans were $200 (retail $400+). We suggest opting for the dresses that are part-knit and part-print so that your new purchase will never be confused with a mega-store collab.

    Century 21
    Broadway and West 66th Street

Last week we scouted out the new Century 21 on the Upper West Side and found plenty of the Italian company’s playful prints for discounted prices. Silk scarves ranged in price from $40 to $120 and large wool scarves were between $180 and $100. Shoes were $300 and rainboots were just $120.

    DDC
    181 Madison at 34st Street
    Rainer: 212-685-0095

If your mouth watered from the Missoni home collection, at Target,, you may want to head over to DDC. The design store is having their biannual Missoni Home sale and current floor stock is discounted 15% to 30%. Although the discount isn’t large, the quality and array of items are sublime. Signature bath towels are $236. Woven throws originally priced between $455 and $850 are now 15% off. Plenty of throw pillows, which retail between $200 to $400, are 30% off. Small ottomans in an array of sizes and prints start at $615 but are also 30% off. Larger versions are over $1000 and only marked down 15%. Unfortunately, bedding is not included in the sale but designers can get a 15% discount on all custom orders, all the time. This sale ends Oct. 31.

    Milan Luxury

    482 Broome St
    Francesca: 212-228-6651
If DDC’s prices seem a bit too high we suggest trying your luck at Milan Luxury. The inventory is currently a bit low but the store continues to get more items. Duvet/sheet sets are $389, pillowcases range from $89 to $118, small bath towels run from $39 to $79 and large towels are $130.
