Coming Soon: Jil Sander Sample Sale

    By ManhattanMataHari

Minimalists mark your calendars–the Jil Sander sample sale will begin next week. The sale doesn’t officially open to the public until Tuesday, April 16th but Jil Sander insiders will be able to start shopping a day early during the VIP preview.

As fans already know, this is a final opportunity to Raf Simon’s last collection. Prices will be a steep 80% to 85% discount.
At last year’s sale, the selection was mostly black wool and basic fall and winter clothing marked 85% off. Lightweight cashmere sweaters for $127 were among the first items to go, although there were plenty of separates in the $50 to $100 range. Classic black wool sheath dresses were a fail safe at just under $160 and there was a good selection of wool outerwear that hovered near the $270 mark. At the last sale were were not particularly impressed by the selection of 80% off leather accessories and handbags.

While the VIP day is invite only –and there is a list at the door– smooth talkers may have some luck towards the afternoon on Monday. Take note that VIPs do tend to scoop up some of the most highly desirable items, so determined Raf Simons fans may want to be resourceful.

Roger Vivier Sample Sale Starts Friday

The Roger Vivier sample sale is back in town starting this Friday. The five-day sample sale will offer brand fans a wide selection of shoes, bags and accessories for up to 60% off.

At the last sale, about 16-months ago, shoppers were greeted with mountains or red boxes including classic buckle flats, elaborate heels, sandals and boots. No season was left out and no style or print was omitted. In addition, there were lots of bags, including evening clutches and larger shopping totes. There was also a small but nice assortment of small leather goods and jewelry.

Any shoe with a buckle was marked 50% off the retail price. Shoes without a buckle were an additional 20% off, or 60% off retail. The price for classic buckle styles were about $275. Sandals are a bit less at $220 and boots ranged between $420 and $600. Bags cost between $425 for a long classic clutch to near $800 for lager bags. The sale also included small accessories and jewelry that were priced in the $100 to $200 range.

Those who are serious Viv fans better start clearing their balances now. Again, this is a credit card only sale and you’re going to need at least $1000 if you’re not disciplined enough to pick just one pair of shoes. Those unable to preview the sale early (hint-hint) should slot between two to three hours during the first day. Last year, the line to check out equaled the line to get into the sale.

    Good luck!

    Hunter Dixon Sample Sale

Spring break always puts us in summer forward thinking. When the weather is warm there is no more versatile item than a cute dress. Pair your dress with flat sandals during the day and switch out the shoes for sling back heels at night.

One of our favorite moderately priced company for summer dresses is Hunter Dixon. And yes, we’ve been fans of the designers before their network fame. (You can read our interview with Hunter Bell and Jennifer Dixon right here.) The sale is boasting discounts up to 80% off retail, which is a sure hit this early in the spring season.

    C. Wonder Spring Sale

    C. Wonder is hosting a spring sale that will can add a bit of sunshine to your wordrobe and home decore. Discounts are up to 50% off and include everything from sweaters to tea cups. The sale is also online but you might be able to find a wider selection at the forever multiplying boutiques.

During a recent trip we found eye-popping dinner table settings for half off, colorful glasses for $5 from $8 and a stripped sweater for $60 from about $80. Our favorite item is this classic monogramed leather bag for $85 from $128. We especially like the bag in red and those lucky enough to have the letter H can make this purchase an ironic play on Hermes.

Bloomingdales Freinds and Family Begins Today

You know markdown season isn’t too far away when Bloomingdales starts their friends and family sale. This season, the early spring shopping incentive will begin Wednesday, April 3rd and run through Sunday, April 7. Presale will begin this Tuesday, March 26 and the discount is 20% off.

Electronics are 10% off and all cosmetics are excluded. Online shoppers can use the code FANDF at checkout. For the best deals, combine the friends and family discount with merchandise that has already been marked down 20% to 30%.

All of the high-end designers of clothing, shoe and handbags are excluded. We suggest sticking to the fourth floor women’s brands were we spotted some great pieces from Sandro, Alice & Olivia, Cut25 and Thakoon Addiction.

Next up, is the Saks F&F that usually takes place towards the end of April. We expect the discount to be the same 20% off. High-end shoes and handbags are excluded at Saks too, along with cosmetics.

    Chanel Bags at Costco

One of the biggest questions we get at Madison Avenue Spy is how to score a Classic Chanel bag for less than retail. The obvious answer is always preowned but today we spotted brand new Chanelies at Costco.

A small Classic style bag usually retails for $4200 but is available at the Harlem Costco for “just” $3600. That’s about $600 less than the current retail price. Not exactly spectacular percentage but $600 is a nice savings. In addition, the big box store has the Chanel Hobo Weekender that retailed for over $3000 is “just” $2059. (That’s a much better deal, in our opinion.) This bag was part of the 2009 summer collection and the hobo strap can be elongated to be worn as a cross body. I can also hold lots of stuff!

Costco also has a few less exciting Prada totes that range in price from $1100 to $1770. We would most definitely pass on these as the retail prices aren’t very much higher. Finding Prada bags on sale isn’t too difficult either. Like the Prada bags, we suggest passing on the green grapes and honeydew. Both are less expensive at Fairway.
