The IT-it: Givenchy Shark Lock Boots

In retail, July is always a collision of two seasons. Summer merchandise is going out and fall merchandise is coming in. One item that seems to remain timeless is the Givenchy Shark Lock Boot.

This classic style knows no season. It is just about the only boot that is sold next to thong sandals and open-toe espadrilles. Why, we ask? The answer is simple– it’s just that good. The lock is reminiscent of the Hermes Kelly but Givenchy’s styling is a lot more youthful than the Kelly Jumping boot.

The Givenchy boot comes as a flat motorcycle style, a high fold over wedge, an ankle boot and short wedge bootie. You can’t go wrong with any of these styles but the flat motorcycle version seems like a perfect alternative to spiked boots that can be perilous in winter, show and ice.

As excited as you may be to wear these style icons, we suggest waiting till temperatures dip into the 50s. A bathingsuit and high motorcycle boots are never a good look no matter the length of your toothpick legs.

If you haven’t slipped into a Manolo lately we would strongly recommend starting with the BB Pump. The BB was aptly named after the inimitable Brigitte Bardot, who was an icon of 1950s fashion. This sleek and elegant shoe was reintroduced in 2009 as an alternative to the heavy, over-designed and over-accessorized shoe styles of the 2010s.

The final markdown is always one of our favorite sales and normally occurs the first week of August. Prices range from $195 to $350. BergdorfGoodman.com Third Markdown

Click over to Bergdorf Goodman where you can currently save up to 75% off. As a matter of fact the prices at our violet home away from home are more discounted than Neiman Marcus. That’s a rarity! Neiman’s discount is still on the second markdown or up to 65% off.

While comparison shopping the two related stores, we found a Gingham Oscar de la Renta strapless gown that was originally $8990 and is priced at $3600 at Bergdorf’s but still $4045 at Neiman’s. Even these classic Prada cork wedges are cheaper at the Manhattan retailer. The starting price was $850 and Bergdorf’s discounted them to $425 while they are still priced at $569 at Neiman Marcus. Just about everything Lanvin is less at Bergdorf than it is at Neiman Marcus.

Before you swipe, be sure to price compare because this gorgeous Stella McCartney scalloped lace top started at $1235 and is reduced to $494 at Bergdorf’s and $432 at Neiman’s. We suspect that in-store prices have not been cut a third time.
