    Anya Hindmarch on The Outnet

Madison Avenue Spy readers had a great time shopping the Anya Hindmarch private pre-sale at The Outnet headquarters today. We couldn’t get enough of the designer’s playful and colorful bags, wallets and accessories.

Starting Thursday, at noon, everyone can shop the collection at up to 65% off when the sale officially goes live on The Outnet.com. Be sure to check out the leather tote that’s $638 from almost $1600, a python embossed tote for about $360 from $795 and a classic canvas shopper that’s under $150 from almost $300. Shoppers also loved the brightly colored make-up and accessory bags. (They are truly useful and will make a great gift.)

You can click on the jump link below to see a full range of pictures from today’s event. We hope that you can join us next time. Take note, that you can win a bag by posing a picture of your favorite Anya item on Instagram. Just use the hashtag #alwaysanya to win.

Try a Vintage Varsity Jacket for Spring

This has been a long, cold, dark and hard winter. While the moto jacket may be one of the hottest fashion must-haves, it is starting to feel a bit too dark and heavy of a look for spring. We love the the über-preppy varsity jacket or letterman sweater as an alternative.

The look is light and playful and quite versatile. We especially like a vintage variety or limited edition piece. We found a great selection on eBay. Among our finds was a 1976 girls softball jacket, an Alaska 80s jacket has the cutest patch of a cartoon cheerleader and a vintage Olympic team USA version seems entirely appropriate.

We love the look of a jacket either over sized or hitting the hip. The style looks particularly adorable on kids. We suggest experimenting with the styling of your letterman outerwear. Try it with a short flared skirt, shorts, or jeans (skinny or boyfriend). As far as footwear, dress it up with booties or heels, or keep it casual with slip-on or oxfords.

You can check out my entire eBay collection of preppy outerwear here. While there, also browse my other collections like the most timeless handbags, intoxicating scents and designer slip-on sneakers.

Neiman Marcus Consolidation Goes to Last Call

If you’ve ever wondered what happens to all that wonderful merchandise at Bergdorf Goodman that nobody purchases, we have the answer. It pops up at the parent brand’s discount store, Last Call.

Starting tomorrow, select Neiman Marcus Last Call stores will receive new arrivals direct from Neiman Marcus. (Bergdorf Goodman will be coming in March.) The discount is up to 65% off original retail. Keep your eyes open, just last month shoppers reported racks of Chanel clothing discounted almost 90% off retail. We’ve also heard that the discounter receives Chanel bags from time to time but doesn’t display them. We suggest asking a sales manager if you’re on the hunt.

Participating stores include, Austin Brodie Oaks Shopping Center, Arundel Mills, Camarillo Premium Outlets, Fashion Outlets of Chicago, Franklin Mills, Grapevine Mills, Great Lakes Crossing, Gurnee Mills, Katy Mills, Milpitas Great Mall, Potomac Mills, Sawgrass Mills, Sugarloaf Mills, The Outlets at Orange, The Outlet Collection-Jersey Gardens, Livermore Premium Outlets, Arizona Mills, and Woodbury Common Premium Outlets.

    Shopbop: Spend More, Save More

Shopbop is hosting a “Tier Sale” where you can save up to 30% off, depending on how much money you spend. The sale starts on Tuesday, at 7am and represents the first real markdown opportunity of the season. The discount can be applied to both full price and sale merchandise. Use the code BIGEVENT14 at checkout to activate your savings.

    The discount runs as follows:

    Spend $250+ Save 20%
    Spend $500+ Save 25%
    Spend $1000+ Save 30%

As far as we can see there are no designer restrictions, which means this discount is a lot more valuable than a department store’s friends and family sale. While browsing, we came across this playful dress from the increasingly popular designer, Ostwald Helgason. The price is $1,020, so the 30% savings would come to over $300. This Jason Wu jacket is normally $2500 but will come to $1750 with the discount. We absolutely love this Lisa Perry stripped sweater comes to $315 from $395.

If you head to the sale section, you should check out this Ellery sequined dress that will come to $415 from an original price of $1800. This slinky Viktor & Rolf dress Was $1500 and comes to just about $350. A Milly sweater with a dalmation collar is absoutly adorable and totally affordable at about $100 from an original price of $326. There are also J Brand super skinny jeans reduced to about $70 from $185 and Won Hundred jeans are about $90 from $221.

The sale only runs until midnight, Thursday, February 27. We suggest you get shopping now or you’ll be waiting until early April. That’s when Saks Fifth Avenue hosts their first friends and family sale.

What to Expect: Diptyque Sample Sale

The Diptyque sample sale starts Wednesday and shoppers can expect to find finely scented candles and room sprays started at $30 from a retail price of about $60. Shower gels, last year, were $22 from $44. This sample sale is loved by luxury pervaders due to the real bargain prices.

Room sprays dominated the last sale in a variety of scents including Myrrh, Cyprès, Galliano, Thé, Feu de Bois, Pin Sylvestre, Ambre, Patchouli, Santali and Oranger. XL candles were $138, Valentine’s Day and Rose Duo candles were $39 and mini holiday candles were just $16. Those who hold out for the last day of the sale might be rewarded with a 2-for-$30 markdown. Take note, that least year, candles completely sold out on the first day.

If you can’t make it to this sale, we suggest you go to Homegoods, which is located at Columbus and 100th Street. Madewell Coming to Madison Avenue

Over the past several years, J. Crew has created a strong footprint along Madison Avenue with four stores between 66st and 87st. This spring, little sister, Madewell is be jointing the Madison Avenue family with a store located between 84th and 85th Street.

This will be Madewell’s third store in Manhattan but its first uptown location. The new space is appropriately situated between Teavana and LuluLemon. It is clear that J. Crew has big expansion plans for Madewell. In the first nine months of 2013, the company opened 13 Madewell stores, bringing the total tally to 65.

Madewell is known for their effortlessly cool and laid back aesthetic. Think, Canadian tuxedo with lots of downtown cool. Jeans are normally priced at $125, a dress is $160, flannels are $80. (You’ll also want to know that Madewell offers a college and teacher discount of 15% with a valid I.D.) The brand’s biggest competitors are Gap and Urban Outfitters, which are both directly East, on Third Avenue.

We just hope that Madewell doesn’t play the same tricky pricing games as the Madison Avenue J. Crew stores. Do we really need to be charged more for the same item because we are shopping on Madison Avenue? Frankly, it seems quite opportunistic and nearly unethical.

Lots of Winter Items on Barneys Warehouse

It’s no secret that Barneys famous bi-annual warehouse sales haven’t really been great since the time of the checkered cab. Most recently, the Madison Avenue department store practically eliminated their sale and moved most of the discount items online to Barneys Warehouse micro-site.

While searching for this season’s marked down Fendi-shoes-that-got-away we found a healthy selection of this winter’s sale merchandise at Barneys Warehouse site. The aforementioned shoes with fur trim are $679 from $1700. While the shoe discounts might not be as good as a sample sale, finding seasonal icons at this time of year can be difficult. Most discount stores pull last season’s merchandise and warehouse them until next year.

The markdowns are better if you’re still looking this season’s winter clothing. A jumpsuit from The Row is $1050 from $4190, a Carven wool gazar strapless dress is $270 from $910 and a spring appropriate Prabal Gurung aqua dress is $459 from $1825.

Just take note, that like the Warehouse sale of days past, there are no returns allowed from the online site. All sales are final. This is an absolute deal breaker when shopping online unless we’ve seen and tried an item.
