The Best Sample Sales this Week

It may feel early in the season for sample sales but the frenzy is about to begin. This week there are dozens of sample sales scheduled all over the city. Obviously, no sane person could attend them all– nor should try. Instead, we carefully curated a selection of our favorite sample sales for the week.

    Scoop NYC
Tuesday, March 17th through Sunday, March 22nd
    Tue 9am—8pm, Wed—Thu 10am—8pm, Fri—Sat 10am—7pm, Sun 10am—3pm
    260 Fifth Ave (btwn 28th & 29th)
Usually Scoops big sales are at their Meatpacking store. Having a professionally organized “sample sale” indicates that there is more merchandise than the retailer can handle. We are told that shoppers can expect to save 75% off retail prices. The merchandise will include a selection of designer apparel, accessories, and shoes for men and women. Product examples include, an Alice + Olivia silk blouse for $55 from $220, a Clover Canyon lace dress for $75 from $300 and J. Brand’s men’s pants for $56 from $225.

    Cut25 by Yigal Azrouël
Wednesday, March 18th through Friday, March 20th
    10am—7pm daily
    Chelsea Market, 75 Ninth Ave (btwn 15th & 16th)
The last few Yigal sales have been a bit of a bummer. Prices were too high and there weren’t any real samples. We are hesitant to include this selection in our ‘best of’ list but there is a chance that the brand has a enough inventory to incentisize shoppers with truly good discounts. We are told that the discounts will be up to 80% off retail prices and include womenswear, overstock and samples.

    Roger Vivier
Friday, March 20th through Monday, March 23rd
    Fri 10am—7pm, Sat—Sun 9am—6:30pm, Mon 9am—5pm
    Soiffer Haskin, 317 W 33rd St (btwn 8th & 9th)
The Vivier sample sale has become one of the most popular of the year with shoppers lining up from the day before. At last year’s sample sale we found almost all the merchandise was reduced 50% to 60% off retail. Basic black pumps with no signature buckle started at $225 and long and ornate boots are priced up to $2000. Most buckle shoes were $300 to $350. A small assortment of little girl’s buckle shoes were $200. Bags start at $525 from a small bag and go up to about $2000 for a more ornate evening clutch.

    Frette
Friday, March 20th through Friday, March 27th
    Fri Mar 20th 10am—9:30pm, Sat 10am—9pm, Sun 11am—8pm, Mon—Wed 7:45am—9pm, Thu—Fri 7:45am—9:30pm
C21 Edition, 21 Dey St (btwn Broadway & Church)
Century 21 is the newest venue to the sample sale arena. At the last Frette sale we found duvet covers for $195, top sheets for $95 and fitted sheets for $65. Plain bedsets were starting at $100 for full-sized and $249 for queen.

Krakoff Closing Madison Ave–75% Off Winter

Reed Krakoff is suspending design and production of his company and closing his Madison Avenue boutique, accounting to WWD. The uptown store will only be open for a few more weeks but the Soho store, the website and Woodbury outlet will continue operations.

Today’s announcement comes as a big surprise as Madison Avenue sales associates were unpacking new spring shipments just last week. The store still had two sections of winter clothing that were all reduced 75% off and a small assortment of bags were 60% off. You can see pictures from our shopping trip last week right here.

If you pop over to the Reed Krakoff website, you will see lots of the clothing reduced 70% off and shoes and handbags are about 60% off. (A bit more pricey than the boutique but the selection is larger.) This circle lace dress is $650 from $2100 and a sweater with leather stripe sleeves is $327 from $1090. Among the bags selection is a classic Boxer for $645 from $1290 and a Soft Atlantique in anaconda and leather skin is $2495 from $4290.

Reed Krakoff will continue to run the company with a skeletal staff until additional investment is found or an alternate plan is made. Management is considering refocusing the company on the “accessible luxury segment of the accessories market,” according to a statement given to Fashionista.

Reed Krakoff was the creative director of Coach for 16 years and started his eponymous label in 2010. The designer left Coach and purchased the brand with and investor group for an undisclosed sum of money. We suspect that the separation from Coach in 2014 made production costs skyrocket, which would have shaved profit margins remarkably.

Reed Krakoff is a master of cut, scale and texture and we hate to see the quality of his designs diluted for mass production. Krakoff is down but not out, for now.

The Outnet Clearance Sale 85% Off

Just when you start to dig into The Outnet’s new products, the site begins its clearance sale. Right now, you can save up to 85% off a great assortment of fashionable fashion, so to speak.

Unlike many sales that boast big discounts, this sale lives up to it’s hype. There are more than 500 items priced at just 15% of their original retail price. A Lanvin gold draped top is $322 from $2150, a Victoria Beckham is $390 from $2600 and a knit Prabal Gurung is $180 from $1200.

Before you check out, be sure to check out the jewelry. It’s not often you find discounts steep enough to warrant the purchase of trendy items like these bright and large Shourouk earrings that are just $135 or an Isabel Morant bangle that’s just $18.

Take note that items are selling out quickly. We suggest putting anything you like in your cart and not taking too long to check out. Few things are more crushing than proceeding to checkout and find that the items you want are gone.

Last week, the brand started a downtown sample sale where spring and fall ’14 merchandise are all reduced between 75% and 80% off. The selection includes lots of bridal gowns and evening gowns but also includes enough ready-to-wear at steep enough discounts to grab our attention.

Save the Date: David Yurman Sample Sale

We hope you’ve been stashing cash because the David Yurman sample sale is set to start Thursday, March 26. Discounts normally range from 30% to 60% off retail and 10% of all proceeds on the first day of the sale will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

During the last sale we didn’t find many classic Yurman pieces. We did, however, find a lot of Petite Albion items. Rings and earrings with semi-precious stones were 30% and 50% off, depending on the particular item. For example, silver and pearl varieties were 30% off. Most of the jewelry selection was composed of link-type items and a few cable styles. Most of the iconic cable pieces were discontinued just 30% off. The watch selection was quite limited, but all timepieces were 50% off retail.

We are very much in love with the colorful Yurman aluminum bangles ($350) but have never seen one at the sale. There aren’t additional markdowns taken throughout the sale, so were suggest going early to get the best selection. The David Yurman outlet is always a good alternative if you can’t find time within your day to make it to sample sale.

    Thurs 3pm to 8pm, Fri & Sat 10am-7pm, Sun 11am—5pm

    Intermix Clearance 85% Off

Intermix is hosting an online clearance sale where a very wearable collection of clothing is an extra 30% off. The additional discount brings the total savings over 85% off on some items. With this type of sale it’s hard to choose what not to buy.

Take a look: A Jay Ahr casual blush colored sweatshirt dress comes to just $100 from $500, a Barabra Bui cashmere blend cape is $230 from $1500 and Tibi crystal heel wedge slides are $140 from $500. It’s really hard to pass up Jean-Michel Cazabat black pumps for just about $100 from $500 and there is also a glitter leopard style for about $180.

While shopping, don’t overlook the jewelry. This Missoni cuff is about $180 from $830 and a stack of seven Eddie Borgo rings are $140 from $500.

The sale is online and in stores but the last time we checked Madison Avenue there wasn’t a lot left in the clearance racks. You might have better luck Downtown but shopping online seems easier than either!

Save Up to 25% on Shopbop

For a long time department stores have been luring shoppers with extra gift cards as shopping incentives. We’d prefer a straight discount over a gift card that either expires or ends up luring you to spend more than the face value.

Through the weekend, Shopbop is offering a shopping discount incentive that increases with the more you spend. Just use the code BIGEVENT15 at checkout. The discount breakdowns are below. The only restriction is Stuart Weitzman, which is great. You can use the discount on these Aquazerra cage pumps, which are a trending item for summer but not yet on sale anywhere. How great would it be to have a red moto jacket for Spring? This Iro lambskin is making us lust for warmer weather even more.

    15% off orders of $250+
    20% off orders of $500+
    25% off orders of $1000+

You can also use the discount on sale items. These Belstaff moto boots will come to just $255 from $750, this Marcus Lupfer ‘Easy Tigar’ cotton sweater comes to $230 from $377 and this Rodarte scorpion dress comes to $1500 from $6620. That’s about 80% off! That’s just about the only type of math we can do.
