    Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Goes Public

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to the public tomorrow. We like to think of the promotion as a Fall pre-presale and it’s a great opportunity to stock up on items that you will need as soon as temperatures start heading south or even some fun items you can enjoy now.

This year prices on some items are especially attractive. We sorted through all 32-pages from the women’s sale. Below are some of our favorites items:

Marco Bicego diamond and gold earrings $1024 from $1530

3.1 Phillip Lim ‘Mini Pashli’ Leather & Snakeskin $635 from $950

Helmut Lang jersey rocked dress $209 from $320

Milly ombré dress $260 from $395

Rag & Bone long cotton shirt $234 from $350

AG Relaxed skinny jeans $150 from $225

Trina Turk swimsuit $98 from $148

Lace Trim pajamas $59 from 488

Spanx high waste to mid-thigh $55 from $82

Erno Laszio ‘Lift and Firm’ set $225 from $308

Charlotte Tilbury ‘On the Go Essentials’ Set $155 from $213

Saks 5th Ave Cuts Prices 75%

What a difference a season makes. This past winter, Saks Fifth Avenue made a point of ending the consolidation sale and limited discounts to 70% off. Perhaps Hudson Bay– the corporate owner of Saks— didn’t realize how competitive the luxury retail space can be.

Today, Saks started a “Surprise Sale” where discounts top 75% off. This MSGM white lace dress is mid-Summer perfection at $273 from $910, this Christopher Kane white eyelet skirt is $281 from $1135 and a Narciso Rodriguez shift dress is $519 from $2100. Take note that not all merchandise is 75% off. Most less expensive pieces and contemporary designers are between 60% and 70% off. Shoes are still reduced 60%.

This extra discount promotion is only available online and ends Thursday at midnight. We also noticed that there isn’t a Final Sale policy on sale items. The small disclosure states that returns on sale items can be made within 30-days. Lets hope that this is a permeant policy change.

Shopbop: Designer Fashion Extra 25% Off

We all love a good friends and family sale but a friendly designer discount is just as good. Right now, Shopbop is offering customers an extra 25% off already discounted designer merchandise. The extra incentive brings the current discount to nearly 80% on some items. Use the code 25Extra at checkout.

We found a Narciso Rodriguez sleeveless knit dress that comes to $474 from $1600, a Preen By Thornton Bregazzi geometric dress is $437 from $1320 and Wes Gordon wide leg trousers come to just $267 from almost $1200. One of our favorite items are these Rodarte earrings that come to just $66 from $220.

The sale ends at midnight on Wednesday. Just beware that the most discounted merchandise is final sale. This is the best deal you can expect, outside of Shopbop’s friends and family sale. Seems like a good enough opportunity to stock up for August vacation.

    Intermix Now Offers 75% Off

The discounts at Intermix are climbing quickly. Right now, many clearance items are nicely discounted and then all sale items are reduced an additional 50%. The only downside is that all reduced items are final sale.

We found Frame bell bottom jeans for $75 from $220,
Nicholas V Band dress comes to $230 from $575 and
Marissa Webb drappy skirt is down to just $100 from $445. There’s also Missoni turbans for $100 and a light weight ALC dot blouse for $85 from $345

The sale is online and in stores but the last time we checked the Madison Avenue store there wasn’t a lot left in the clearance racks. You might have better luck Downtown but shopping online seems easier than either!

    Manolo’s Markdowns Begin

The Manolo Blahnik’s boutique sale is happily on its way. The savings are currently 30% off but in just days the markdown will go to will be 50%.

As far as sales go, the department stores are serving up better discounts. Bergdorf Goodman has BBs for under $300 right here and mules start at just $315 from Saks.comhttp://bit.ly/1Jde2Sj
    .

Towards the end of the month, Manlolo adds a third “sticker” markdown where prices start at just $250. You can see our past overage of Manolo’s sticker sales here. We always prefer the boutique final markdown to the sample sale– at least you get a box with your shoes.

    Nordstrom Anniversary Presale

Nordstrom is known for having great sales. There are two in particular that can send a city girl shopping in the burbs: The “Half-Yearly Sale” and the “Anniversary Sale.” The Half-Yearly sale is clearance, usually towards the end of the season. The Anniversary Sale is a pre-sale before the new collection hits the department store floor.

Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale starts today. The sale consists of a catalog of pre-Fall merchandise that is discounted 25% to 40% off. Each department has its own special items that are featured in the pre-Fall sale. You can sift through the catalog right here.

The presale sale runs from July 9th to July 16th but the sale is limited to customers who have a Nordstrom credit card until July 16th. Afterwards the sale opens to the general public. Prices return to normal once the sale ends in August.

Back-to-school items are especially attractive during this Nordies sale. For example, we wouldn’t be caught dead wearing Uggs but they are a staple for school-age children. For example classic Uggs are $100 from $150,  Hudson jeans are $32 from $69 and Vans are just $30.

We are a bit choosier when picking pre-season items for ourselves but a DVF wrap dress caught our eye for $265 from  almost $400. A casual coat from Topshop is just $100 from $160 and classic Stuart Weitzman boots are $400 from $625.

There are also some great beauty packages with terrific brands like Kiehl’s, Molton Brown and La Mer. Check out this Charlotte Tilbury package that comes with a cosmetic case and offers a $60 savings. This year there is also an extensive home section, which includes sheets and towels, kitchen accessories and decor accent pieces.

Clearly the savings are significant. Identifying what you want for Fall is a bit more difficult but surely worth the effort. Sometimes it pays to plan ahead.

Milly Dresses are $20 at Kolhs

Kolhs isn’t exactly the most likely shopping destination for Madison Avenue shoppers but we heard about $20 Milly dresses and decided to take a look.

Today was our first entreé to the retailer and we were really quite surprised with what we found. There were lots of recognizable brand names and the prices were quite inexpensive. The only problem was that a lot of the merchandise is produced of that nail snagging polyester that makes our skin crawl. Very much akin to what you would find from Target’s designer collaborations.

As with Target, there are many pieces that stand out for their great design, reasonable quality and amazing price. The Milly collection, which is now on clearance, includes crisp cotton dresses, light cotton peasant tops and soft sketchy jersey maxi-dresses. In the store, we found this stripped maxi-dress for $23 from $76, this organza top in black was $15 from $50 and this blue floral print dress was just $20 from $68. You can click here to see pictures of all the Milly dresses we found or you can click over to TheBudgetBabe to see the complete lookbook. (Unfortunately, Kolhs.com will not cross-honor in-store pricing.)

Today’s shopping trip just goes to show that you shouldn’t drive by a store for 10 years without going in. You never know what you can find.

    COS 50% and More

It’s that time of summer again when you realize you have nothing to wear. There’s nothing to wear to breakfast. Nothing to wear after the beach. Nothing to wear. Period.

To make matters worse, summer trends are already tired. We’ve had enough with the chevron rainbow. Ditch the Dolce florals. Simple. Simple. Simple. Finding something inexpensive isn’t bad either.

If you’re looking for quality minimalistic basics without the high prices, we suggest you explore COS. The retailer is the younger sister of H&M. Prices are higher but the quality is akin to most designer contemporary brands or better. The best part is that COS is hosting a summer clearance sale where most items are 50% off or more.

A loose fit jersey dress (perfect for after the beach) is now $39 from $79. Raw cut leather sandals are $37 from $125 and this version with a wood heel feels like Celine and is just $95. Here is your oversized cotton top for just $22 from $45. Oh, and here is your dress for your early Sunday morning coffee run for $44 from $90.

The online store also carries a nice selection for men and women, which are both on sale too. If you can’t get to the store downtown, we seriously suggest you test shop online. Shipping is just $6 and returns are free.
