    Celine Takes First Markdown

A vail of mystery surrounds Celine and their markdowns. Some believe the chic French company never goes on markdown but au contraire mon ami.

Starting today shoppers of the Celine boutique and department stores can begin presaling seasonal Celine items at a discount of 40%. We weren’t given specific details if any bags would go on markdown but you can only suspect it would be seasonal colors in the least desirable style bags.

Moving on to shoes, there are lots of sale styles from which to choose. Included in the markdown are Celine ballet flats in yellow, nude and red and the versions with a heel are reduced in nude and red. There are also lots of espadrille sandals and flatforms. You can click here to see pictures from the Barneys Celine sale.

The sale becomes official on Thursday but we suggest you start sending out serious inquires if you plan on attempting to negotiate a handbag on sale. Just keep in mind, sometimes there is a reason why sale items are put on sale.

    Net-A-Porter Hits 60% Off: Shoes!!!

As predicted, Net-A-Porter took their second markdown today. The sale now includes discounts that stretch up to 60%. Like most every woman, we focused our attention towards the shoe department since a 60% discount would make the online luxury store the best place for soulful deals.

Tread lightly if you’re in any danger of unwanted temptation. Here we found Tabitha Simmons lace-ups for $278 from almost $700, a Nichlolas Kirkwood version of an Alaia shoe for $480 from $1200 and a denim and suede Paul Andrew slingback is $360 from $645. There is an amazing amount of Aquazzura that was just further reduced to 60% and super inexpensive pom-pom Sam Edelman sandals that are just $50.

We hit our personal daily shopping limit (DSL) in the shoe department but you’re welcome to keep going. It’s hard to say no to this denim dress that’s just $170 from $425, a Ronald Van Der Kemp stripped dress or a Mugler dress/vest/shell.

We suspect that the discounts will get even better as the month progresses. Just try not to get too greedy. It’s not worth saving 10% to wait and miss the opportunity to buy something you’ve wanted.

    Deep Discounts at Bloomingdales

Bloomingdales tends to have great sales but there is always the problem of trying to keep track of all the latest incentives. The store would be much better served keeping it simple. The highlight of Bloomies current markdown is that lots of merchandise is already discounted 50% and as an added incentive you can save $25 off every $100 you spend. Just use the code PRIVATE at checkout.

Head right this way to snag a summery Alice & Olivia dress that comes to just $150 from $485, this Ramy Brook Mediterranean blue print dress is $150 from $400 and Sandro high-rise pants are about $175 from $325.

On top of those immediate savings, you can sign up for the Bloomies Loyalist program to get a $25 gift card to use at a later date, for every $100 you spend. The gift card promotion is even eligible on beauty products and many luxury designer items.

Take note, all these additional promotions end on Sunday. We strongly suggest you hit up the new fifth floor kids department if you haven’t already shipped off the camp trunk. Some items are reduced so far that it’s painful to walk away.

    Father’s Day Gift Ideas

It can be quite stressful figuring out what gifts to give our dads (husbands-boyfriends-significant others) for Father’s Day. We searched Madison Avenue and the cyber universe for the best Father’s day gift –on sale, naturally. Below are a few of our favorites:

    Nespresso VertuoLine $199 from $440

Ralph Lauren Mesh Polo $50 from $99

Ralph Lauren Big Pony Polo $60 from $99

Gucci Leather Holdall $2065 from $2950

    Shroom Socks $10 from $14

Paul Smith Linen Blazer $600 from $1200

Acne Shell Jacket $170 from $340

Golden Goose sneakers $280 from $560

Golden Goose high tops $307 from $515

Mr. Kim fedora $109 from $185

Barneys to Take a Second Markdown Thursday

It seems as if sale season just started but Barneys isn’t wasting any time. The Madison Avenue landmark is set to take a second markdown starting on Thursday, June 9. Insiders tell us that the discount will be 60% off many items.

Bags and shoes will likely hold at the current 40% markdown. If you’re looking for discount bags, they are usually found in the right alcove. At this point in the sale season you can usually find a variety of Balenciaga, Chloe and Givenchy bags. Some highlights from last season’s second markdown included a Givenchy Pandora, several Antigona totes, a classic black Chloe Emma bucket bag and a few Alaia pieces.

The discount on most clothing will be 60% off. What’s nice about the current shopping experience is that the sale clothing is still in its respective places as opposed to consolidated to different sections of the store. Look out for the discounted Prada, Nina Ricci, Dolce & Gabbana and Thakoon.

In the meantime, you can head over to Ssense where the discount hit 70% off today. As a matter of fact, the fashion is actually much better at the European online store than at Barneys. Check out this Marques Almeida denim dresses with raw edges that’s $270 from $418. Brian Atwood lip print shoes are $300 from $900, a Mary Katrantzou dress is $744 from $2880 and this Givenchy black and white dress is $2100 from $7000. Just take note that some items are older than this season but fashion like this isn’t meant to go out of style quickly.

    Shoes Sale On Madison Avenue

It’s been a bit over a week since department stores officially started their first markdown. Some boutiques, particularly, shoe stores have been holding off on markdowns. Starting Monday almost every major shoe brand will offer customers a discount on summer soles. Below are some highlights:

    Aquazzura
Looking for something to tie down your attention? Look no further than the scrappy heels, sandals and flats from Aquazzura. The sale started Sunday and features a discount of 30% off. This is the first sale season at the boutique. It’s hard to say if there will be another markdown. Included in the markdown are the sandals with the turquoise stars (which happen to be 50% off on Net-a-Porter), pom-pom sandals and a variety of classic Hero Ballerina flats.

    Charlotte Olympia
One of the first stores to go on sale is always Charlotte Olympia. The discount is currently 50% off but many of the most desirable styles are already sold out. Sizing is spotty but everyone who works in the boutique is always extraordinarily helpful and, if possible, will locate your size.
    Harlina 212-744-1842 or harlina.senfleur@charlotteolympia.com

    Christian Louboutin
Shhh…Christian Louboutin’s private sale officially kicks off Monday. The discount is 40% on a variety of summer styles. Some of the most popular shoes this season have been nude pumps with hearts, denim pumps and rainbow python heels.
    Louboutin Uptown: Marina 212-396-1884

    Gianvito Rossi
The private sale at Gianvito Rossi starts Monday. This is the first sale cycle, as the boutique just opened. The discount is 30% and we strongly suggest you go for the cork sandals (discounted 50% right here), sexy d’orses and classic suede in a variety of colors.
    Arthur 646-869-0201

    Giuseppe Zanotti
The sale started publicly last week but there is still a large inventory available. The discount is 30% but the store usually takes a second markdown to 50% before July. It’s hard to imagine who is buying those armored high-top sneakers but they continue to add them to the collection. Highlights from this season’s collection include, clog-like mules (already discounted 50% here), classic embellished sandals and beaded suede espadrilles.

    More Madison Avenue Sales

Most stores on Madison Avenue are officially on sale. Last week we did a rundown of some of our favorite luxury retailers and today we are adding to the designer list and adding lots of contemporary stores too. Shop away, there’s nothing like springtime in the city.

    Alexander McQueen
Most clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and accessories are discounted 40% off,. There are several colors of Heroine style bags included in the sale along with a few knuckle box clutches.

    Alexis Bittar
Select lucite baubles of plenty are 30% off but some items are discounted more. If you’re looking for the items with a higher discount ask the sales person to point you in the right direction before you get hypenotized by full price items.

    Alice & Olivia
The discount on most merchandise is 40% off. Take note that the designer is hosting a sample sale starting June 13–details to follow.

    Cynthia Rowley
If you haven’t been to Cynthia Rowley lately, than you should. The designer is is the queen of surf and there is no place to shop that’s more Montauk friendly. Summer fashions are now discounted 30% to 50% off.

    Intermix
A comprehensive selection of merchandise is discounted 40%.  The designer selection is better in the store than online. Head to the back left or right to browse through the reduced merchandise. To the left, we spotted a table of shoes that included Valentino espadrilles and Fendi sandals. There appears to be an abundance of Missoni and Mugler.

    John Varvatos
Guys can save 40% off most spring and summer items. Even some Ernst Benz watch styles are included in the sale. Be sure to ask a sales person to point out exactly which ones.

    Joie
You can now shop for “effortlessly causual” looks for 30% off. For some reason we always find uptight-
formal to be a lot easier to style than realaxed-cool.

    Maje
Most of spring fashion is discounted 20% to 30% off but online you can find some holdovers from last season at 50% off.

    Milly
Lots of spring and summer styles are discounted 50% off. Unfortunately none of the kids items are reduced but we’ll keep our eyes open.

    Theory
Markdowns hover around 30% online and in stores. We suggest you go for the culottes, which aren’t cut very differently than the ones you would find at Celine. The fabric, however, isn’t the same but these also cost about 90% less.

Where to Find Christian Louboutin Shoes on Sale Now

Certain brands always go on sale a little later than all of the other designer collections. The usual holdouts often include Celine, Christian Louboutin and Chanel. We unofficially heard that these brands will hit the sale section on June 9 but some retailers have gone off script and already started discounting Louboutin shoes.

The Louboutin shoe and bag discounts range from 30% to 40% off. Over at Barneys you will find the highest discounts. Styles included in the markdown are Trepi High Platform Sandals that are about $700 from $1145, Follies Spikes Pumps that are about $775 from almost $1300 and more basic nude pumps are $510 from $900.

If you’re interested in shopping for discount Louboutins at Saks it’s best if you avoid the NYC Flagship. The space is actually leased by Christian Louboutin and they haven’t started discounting their red soles. Saks Fifth Avenue stores outside of New York, however, are ripe for shopping at a 30% discount. Among the sale styles are many of the same styles found at Barneys with the addition of these lip print pumps, Tulle Point Toe pumps and heart toe pumps.

We’ve heard from many reliable sources that Christian Louboutin’s sales aren’t what they used to be. The shoe floor is getting a lot more competitive with newcomers like Gianvito Rossi and Aquazurra. Just remember, no diva stays on top forever and retailers are quickly growing tired of Louboutin’s demands and antics.
