Barneys Last Markdown: Extra 20% Off

This weekend, Barneys started the mother-of-all-sales by offering additional discounts of 20% off merchandise that has already been reduced by 75%. The sale promoption applies to all sale items.

We strongly suggest you start your shopping in the shoe department, where a large assortment of shoes are already discounted 60%. The additional savings brings to total markdown to nearly 70% off. The online selection isn’t nearly as good as what you can find in stores but there are a few key pieces still available.

It’s pretty slim pickings if you’re shopping online for clothing too. Here is a Calvin Klein tunic that’s about $200 from $1000 and this pretty smocked skirt is about $100 from $600. The selection is mainly comprised of hard-to-sell skirts and pants. Again, we are sure you can find more interesting items in the store.

This type of extreme markdowning, goes to show that even the least likable fashion can be sold at the right price. Next stop… Barneys online Warehouse.

    StyleBop Discounts Hit 75% Off

Shopbop is offering a deal that might be hard to refuse. Right now, a selection of spring and summer merchandise is already discounted 70% off but through the weekend you can save an extra 15%.

We were actually very surprised about how how many great items we found. Check out this Victoria Beckham cross-body bag that’s currently about $300 from nearly $1000. With the extra discount the cute summer accessory comes to just $260. These Malone Souliers leather mules area gorgeous and are currently priced at $200 from $700, an Alexander Wang skirt with cut-outs is $158 from $520 and this jumpsuit from McQ Alexander McQueen is $215 from $719. We also spotted this sleeveless Alexander Wang blazer that is very on trend for Fall.

The extra discount promotion extends beyond the most discounted sale merchandise and can be applied to almost all reduced items. (We just like to target the best deals, of course.) This Sonia Rykiel dress is adorable and already marked down 50% and this Missoni jumpsuit is Mykonos-ready.

As far as sales go, StyleBop’s selection seems to be pretty on point. There is even an assortment of sizes still available. Seems like a good opportunity to pick up something extra nice before your big August vacation.

The IT-it: Straw Bags & Accessories

We didn’t see the straw bag trend coming until it already happened. It seems as if there are  straw, wicker, raffia and rattan bags almost everywhere you look. The thing is, we still can’t get enough.

We especially love that the basket weave can be found in almost any price point. Nordstrom, especially, has lots of styles from which to choose. Check out this Milly straw clutch with raffia pom-poms that’s just $195, this wood frame version is really a no-brainer for just $58 or here is a tote with pom-poms for only $48. It’s the perfect size for a towel and sunscreen.
On the higher priced– designer side– of the spectrum we are smitten with the Fendi straw Baguette ($2600) or this intricately woven straw and python Pickaboo bag ($6100). We especially love this Eric Javits straw tote ($400). It’s clean, minimalistic but not too fragile.

Sure, the bags have taken the spotlight with this trend but there are also lots of other items sneaking in a basket weave. We love these straw woven sandals for only $70, a wrinkle combatting fedora ($18) works wonders for your skin and here are fiesta-ready earrings from Kate Spade ($88).

Don’t forget, Nordstrom is hosting their amazing Anniversary Sale, where oodles of designer fashions are heavily discounted. Online shoppers should take advantage of Nordstrom’s great customer service, which features free shipping and free returns.

    Net-a-Porter’s Final Sale, Extra Discounts

After the fireworks die down we excitedly await for Net-a-Porter’s explosive final markdown. This end-of-season event usually only lasts a few days and is delivered with lots of extra discounts.

We hear that this season’s big event will begin Thursday, July 6. The extra discount is usually 20% off but doesn’t apply to all items. When this sale strikes, merchandise tends to go very quickly. The shoes and bags are always the first to fly off the site. We suggest you start browsing and tucking things away in your cart right now.

We have our eye on this Sara Battaglia shoulder bag that’s already very well priced at $324. We are going to dive for this this Anya Hindmarch –or any of the designer’s small cross body bags– if they get reduced any more. Only for the fact that we are tired of wanting and writing about them. During the Summer, we are all about cheap thrills and this woven tote from Truss is the perfect fix.

In the shoe department, there are lots Aqazzura shoes discounted 70% including this style with pom-poms. These sunny heels that Man Repeller did with Net-a-Porter are 70% off along with the rest of the collection they launched this past Winter.

Everything gets a little more interesting when you start shopping for clothing. There is still a large assortment of clothing and the variety is quite large. We’ve spent a lot of time searching for the perfect denim skirt and this Marc Jacobs version is as close as we’ve come to perfect. Is is longer than the fingertips, we love the frayed edge and it’s 70% off. Here is another one from Frame but it’s a bit shorter.

We are hoping that the Prada collection gets another markdown. We are suckers for a lip print and this black background skirt is practically irresistible and can work almost all year round. We like this white version better but it’s much more seasonal.

The NAP final sale usually lasts less than a week. Then the section completely disappears. TheOut is the next stop– as it becomes past season fashion.

    What’s What: July 4th Shopping

July 4th is famous for explosive sales. Some even go as far as calling it ‘Christmas in July.’ Considering the recent third markdowns at department stores– like Barneys, Bergdofs and Saks— it’s more like New Year’s in July.

Just remember, the holiday promotions don’t end with the fireworks. Extended sales have become as much of a tradition as the underlying sale. The bonus day, final hours and last chances are as commonplace as an afterparty.

    Golden Goose Sneakers Under $200

Golden Goose sneakers can spotted on fashion girls of all ages, ranging from teenagers to grandmothers. The iconic Italian sneaker can be easily identified by the oversized star and worn-looking soles.

We first spotted this Italian brand of footwear about two years ago but the combination of the high prices and sneaker boredom kept us a reluctant customer. Considering the growing popularity and rising prices, we were excited to find a large assortment of Golden Goose markdowns. Some styles are discounted to under $200 when retail prices can easily exceed $500.

Italist currently has a very wide assortment of Golden Goose sneakers reduced 25% to 35% off their already lower European prices. Here is a pair of yellow sneakers with a white star that come to just $179 or a light blue sneaker with a white star for the same price. Here is a black sneaker with a silver star for $187 or a white sneaker with a gold star for $167.

Italist is a no-frills European designer website, which means that the prices are low but you will play for  shipping and returns. On the bright side, there is no sales tax (unless you live in California). As New Yorkers, we can define that as an additional 9% savings.

For these prices, you can justify grabbing a pair for yourself and your middle schooler. Besides, how else can you make yourself feel better while they are away at summer camp?

Barneys & Saks Take Third Markdowns

It’s officially that time of year, when stores start taking their final markdowns. Today Saks Fifth Avenue and Barneys started their third markdowns. The discount at Barneys hit 75% and Saks slashed prices to 70% of the original price.

We spotted this Loewy hobo bag reduced 60% off and it now comes to $2150 from $3600. Here is a pretty pink cotton shirt dress that’s $140 from $550, those off-White jeans we’ve been lusting for are just $169 from $665 and this Proenza Schouler top is $220 from $900.

Over at Saks the shopping is a bit more difficult because the final cut is not returnable. This Philip Lim 3.1 cold-shoulder dress is $200 from $800, Alexander Birman heels are $278 from $700, patchwork
J Brand jeans are $85 from $228 and an elegant Brandan Maxwell jumpsuit is $575 from $2400.

We hate to say it, but this will be the last markdown. If there’s something you want, now is the time to buy it. We suggest also stalking the stores because someone else’s return can be your jackpot.
