    Scoping Barneys Past Season at 80% Off

    Barneys has removed all but a few winter items from it’s store and website. If you toggle over to the Barney’s Warehouse site, however, you will find everything you thought you might have missed.

    Most Fall and Winter clothing is reduced 75% off retail and the current 20% off promotion brings the total discount over 80% off. Use the code ENJOY20 at checkout to engage the additional savings.

    Over this way is a gorgeous double-faced cashmere coat from Armani that’s reduced to $1600 from over $6000. (Someone please buy it now so that it can stop haunting me!) Balenciaga pointed toe mules are $200 from $735, Mary Katrantzou ice-colored jacquard mini-dress is $400 from $3880, an Isabel Marant silk stripped dress is $230 from $955 and Nina Ricci wide-leg trousers are $180 from $850.

    There is no end date for this promotion, which means it could expire with no notice. Not buying the items I’ve wanted all season is proving to involve more self control than I can muster. Send help!

    Getting to Know: Patron of the New 50% Off

    It’s more likely for an Upper East Sider to go to Paris that it is to take the sojourn to Tribeca. After all, the trip to JFK is closer than Nobu Downtown.

    After too much time, we finally made it to Tribeca and visited Patron of the New. The fashion-forward boutique carries all of the latest hype brands without a single note of hysteria. We were surprised to find a variety of established and emerging steetwear brands like Off-White, Amiri, Fear of God, Palm Angels, Alchemist and Enfants Riches Déprimés. Let’s put it this way, there are enough $900 sweatshirts to wardrobe the Grammy’s.

    As an added bonus, Patron of the New carries a selection for women too. There is a great assortment of brands like Balmain, Off-White for Women, Faith Connexion, Moschino, Ben Taverniti and RtA.

    The best part is that there are plenty of racks that are discounted 50% off. (You can click here to see what we spied on sale and other great fashion, not on sale.) We found a classic Balmain dress reduced to $2125 from $4250, a Balmain puffer is about $2900 from $5850 and the classic tank with gold button shoulders is $140 from $280.

    Beyond the Balmain selection, we found a Moschino ‘Fauxschino’ tee for about $115 from $235, a Faith Connexion leather biker jacket is $960 from $1920 and RtA’s star lambskin leather pants are $573 from $1146. (Click this way to see more.)

    We absolutely fell in love with the store’s jewelry — especially the statement rings. Check out this stunner from Monies and these wood earrings from the same designer. Both are 50% off. There is also a full assortment of Off-White belts and bags  (not on sale). We have pictures in the jump.

    Inside Look: Saks Discounts Hit 80% Off

    This is the tail end of sale season. Most winter collections will be removed from stores in the next two weeks. For now, you can lap up the last days of sale and the most extreme markdowns. Right now, Saks Fifth Avenue is offering customers a savings of 70% off clothing and an extra 25% off, which brings the final tab to nearly 80% off retail.

    Take note, we don’t see the additional 25% off promotion offered to online shoppers. After further inquiry, a phone operator told us that you can place your online order and call afterwards to get a price adjustment.

    Among the designer clothing on the third floor, we found red Loewe leather hot pants that come to $450 from about $2000, a Fendi floral print dress is $640 from $2850 and a red Givenchy coat is $1800 from over $6000. You can head this way to see pictures from the third floor.

    Upstairs, in the shoe department, there are still plenty of racks of sale shoes. Most shoe styles are 60% off and there aren’t any additional promotions. On the bright side, the Vetements x Manolo collaboration has hit the ‘racks.’ We found Vetements x Manolo satin ankle boots that are now $800 from nearly $2000 and stain pumps with an ankle strap are $710 from $1775. Other interesting finds are basic Chanel pumps that were priced at $300 from $750, Roger Vivier espadrilles are $290 from $725, Gucci flatforms $575 from $1150, Prada embellished mules are $396 from $990 and Miu Miu fur slides are $380 from $950.     Saks gets very fussy during final markdowns. There are no exchanges or returns accepted once merchandise is reduced more than 60% off. It kind of seems to defeat the purpose of shopping in a department store but it’s hard to blame them for not wanting boomerang merchandise.

    Inside the FiveStory Off-Site Sale

    Claire Distenfeld, the owner of the multi-brand boutique Fivestory, is one of those rare retailers who specializes in satisfying shoppers who love ‘fa-shun’. We always look forward to her bi-annual off-site sample sales because it’s a great opportunity to buy something haute and unique at a serious discount.

    This season’s sale started yesterday and we couldn’t wait to see what treasures we could discover. Clothing discounts range up to 80% off, shoes are 75% off and jewelry is discounted 60%. Clearly, the discounts are wonderful but the selection is horribly depleted. Most of the inventory consists of pants and skirts. There are some basic sweaters and a handful of gowns. The best shoe styles are limited to one size.

    Despite the limited options, we were able to find some highlights. This Brandan Maxwell mini-dress with pleated sleeves is $580 from $2900, an Adeam asymmetrical cashmere sweater is $230 from $1150 and Nicholas Kirwood Leda pumps are $181 from $725. You can click over this way to see pictures from inside the sale. There is also a great selection of Eugenia Kim hats but they are only discounted 60%.

    The sale runs through Saturday but we wouldn’t suggest making a special trip to Soho for the sale. There won’t be restocking but there might be additional markdowns.

    What’s better than a good markdown? A discount store with great markdowns and a great promotion on top. It’s like the cherry on a ice-cream Sunday!

    We’ve been told, starting Wednesday, TheOutNet will be offering customers an extra 20% off. The code is TWENTY18. The additional discount brings some clothing to nearly 95% off retail. Use this link to get a sneak peak of what will be included in the sale.

    There are also lots of inexpensive casual items. A cold-shoulder Iris & Ink cashmere top is going to be $140 from about 200. (We personally love their cashmere sweaters. The fit is great and they wear better than many of the more expensive contemporary brands.) Frame boyfriend jeans will be $160 from $120 and this denim skirt will cost just $64 from $270.

    Take note, this is a one day sale. As always, we suggest you use this inside information to begin pre shopping your purchases and click buy once the sale goes live. The promotion expires promptly at 15:00pm BST on January 25– that’s 9pm EST on Thursday.

    The IT-it: Fashionable Graffiti

    Art has always had a large impact on fashion but streetwear is currently taking it’s inspiration from street art specifically.  This season, several designers have adapted graffiti — the ultimate street art –into clothing and accessories.

    High fashion, mixed with grunge, gives designers enough credibility to be worn by streetstyle blogger icons. Look no further than Balenciaga, which under the tutelage of Demna Gvasalia, has climbed its way to the top of the fashion ladder. This season, Gvasalia took the traditional Balenciage City bag ($2200)  and turned it into one of the hottest styles of the season by adding personalized graffiti.

    Perhaps even more iconic is the Gucci Ghost tote ($3000), which is a collaboration with street artist Trevor Andrew. This season, Dolce & Gabbana took a pen to a top handle bag ($3995) and mixed conservative lines with playful doodles. The content was inspired by the doodles you’d find inside of a school girl’s journal. Even

    Even classic shoe designers have gotten in on the act. Christian Louboutin has a graffiti tote ($1550) and backpack and Manolo Blahnik is offering BB pumps ($695) that look like a 1970s subway car.

    Stamped, an upping comer in the ever growing lineup of popular streetwear labels, is offering lots of graffiti options. If you really want to plug into the hottest styling, you can opt for oversized menswear pieces.

    Remember, fashion week is coming. Now is the perfect time to start curating your wearable art. Extra points if it’s street art and triple credit if it’s graffiti.

    Neiman Marcus: Extra 20% of Final Markdown

    This Sunday, Neiman Marcus will start an online promotion where final markdown merchandise is reduced an extra 20% off. The big treat is that the online clearance section is filled with great designer items that are sold out at many other stores. The promotion will start January 21 and run through January 23.

    Upon browsing, we found a Brandon Maxwell halter top that comes to an affordable $200 from $1100. A really pretty one-shoulder Milly blouse is $285 from $1430 and a Dolce & Gabbana leopard halter dress is $1000 from $3600. They are just too good to resist.

    The discount among the shoes isn’t quite as high but it still makes sense to cherry pick. Glass heel mules from The Row are $428 from $1200, Givenchy’s studded sandals are $360 from about $1000 and Balenciaga buckle shoes are $340 from $950.

    Remember, the sale doesn’t start until Sunday but it’s a good idea to start scoping out your prospects and placing them in your cart. Neiman Marcus doesn’t do these extra 20% off sales too often. We suggest you take advantage while the opportunity presents itself. This is the final markdown of the season and prices will not get any better than this.

    Moncler 40% Off at Bergdorf Goodman

    We could easily pay for a full price Moncler coat If we had a dollar every time a sales person insisted that they never go on sale. The conversation is infuriating. Every year we wait and watch. Then poof, the puffers are discounted. Now is the time to gloat.

    The Moncler markdown started today at Bergdorf Goodman and most of this season’s coats and jackets are reduced 40%. A fur trip puffer coat comes to about $1130 from $1885, a shiny two color-block jacket is $864 from $1440 and this pearl colored wool-lined puffer is $670 from $1115.

    Online shoppers shoppers will need to wait a bit. The coats online are still full price. Not even the kids coats are on sale yet on the site. We will be sure to let you know when the markdowns are available on the Internet. You can also try to call an online rep and request a price match to the store. Just don’t be surprised if you find most associates to be a Moncler sale denier.

    We haven’t seen Moncler discounts at Barneys, Saks or Bloomingdales just yet. Remember, they are as sure to come as freezing temperatures. Bundle up!
