OCTOBER SAMPLE SALES ????????????UPDATED: The Row, Jimmy Choo, Bonpoint, Jonathan Adler

The mums on Park Avenue are the most visible sign that Fall has officially arrived. The changing leaves and cooler weather means that sample sale season isn’t too far away. Like post-season baseball, shopping gets serious in October. It’s the perfect time of year to be on the lookout for holiday gifts, outerwear and, of course, boots!

We’ve exclusively listed only the sample sales that we think are worthy of your time and effort. The post will continue to be updated throughout the month and remain just a click away in the right sidebar. You can also follow along on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook to get quick and immediate updates or check Chicmi for a complete list of all New York sample sales. Feel free to leave feedback in the comments section, so that everyone can benefit from the ‘Spy’ network.

    Hermes Sale
There hasn’t been a Hermes sale in New York City for over three years but you can snag a big discount if you head to Long Island. In a pop-up store (next to Tory Burch) at the Americana Manhasset Mall, the privately owned Hermes boutique will be hosting a sale where clothing, shoes and non-leather accessories are discounted 50% off. At the last Loooooooong Island sale, there were over 100 people in line before 9am. Shoppers who waited were very frustrated by the lack of selection. Our reports indicated that there were very few ties, some Swift CDCs in strange colors and some wayward style shoes. A Hermes sale is always exciting but even at half-off prices are expensive and it’s always nicer to have exactly what you want than to make half-hearted purchases. Here is a link to how it went down last season.
Wednesday, October 3 through Saturday, October 6
    10am-7pm daily
Americana Manhasset Mall: 2060 Northern Blvd (Next to Tory Burch)

    Dolce & Gabbana
Who doesn’t love a powerful floral print at 70% off? The problem with this sample sale is always the line. Last season, shoppers reported waiting more than four hours to get in. If you can resist attending until the end of the sale you will find fewer lines and deeper discounts. Last season, the markdowns hit 90% off on some items. Now, that’s a discount worth trecking to the Penn Station neighborhood.
Sunday, October 7 through Wednesday, October 10
Sun 10am-7pm, Mon to Wed 9am-7pm
Soiffer Haskin: 317 West 33rd Street

    Rosie Assoulin
Way Downtown to Rosie Assoulin. Prices on older season merchandise can be found at 90% off retail. The best part is that there are no lines. As a matter of fact, there was nobody else there for most of the time we were shopping. You can read a full report over this way.

    Manolo Blahnik Sample Sale
This season’s Fall Manolo Blahnik sample sale will open to the public on Thursday, October 11th. We expect that prices will run along the same lines as last season. Plain shoes, including leather, suede satin, and printed fabric start at $125 ($136 with tax) and go up to $150. Shoes with embellishments like glitter and studs were priced $175. Boots started at $200 for basic versions and went up to $400 for over-the-knee styles. All the details can be found in our most recent blog post.
    Thursday, October 11th
Sale opens: 11am and closes when the inventory dwindles (usually 3pm – 4pm)
The Warwick Hotel, 54th Street and 6th Avenue, 2nd Floor
    Cash only!

    David Yurman Sample Sale
Discounts at the David Yurman sample sale normally range from 30% to 60% off retail and 10% of all proceeds on the first day of the sale will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Expect to encounter long lines on the opening day. At the last sale, cable bracelets were reduced 30% off and other styles were discounted by 50%. Rings and necklaces were 50% off and watches and pendants were reduced by 60%.

    Thurs 3pm–8, Fri & Sat 10am–7pm, Sun 11am–5pm
The Altman Building, 135 West 18th Street

    Bonpoint Sample Sale
The discounts will go up to 70% and apply to every clothing collection (newborn, baby, girl, boy, teenager). At the last sale, most items were 60% off the retail sticker. That means that more formal dresses, which are normally priced in the $400-range were reduced to $260-ish. More casual dresses were about $200 in the boutique and come to about $80 at the sale. Boy’s trousers were about $60 from $150 and the collared shirts came to $48 from $120. Read our last Bonpoint review over here.

    Jimmy Choo Sample Sale
The Jimmy Choo sale opens to the public on Wednesday, October 4 at 11am. To attend the sale you must use this link to RSVP. Use the code JCSS2018 to receive your email confirmation number. Each individual must have a confirmation number to get into the sale. Last season, the lines wrapped around the entire avenue and block and the assortment weren’t even very good. We would suggest saving yourself some time and agony and not attending the first day. Last season, basic pumps and sandals were usually $200, booties were $325 and boots were $375. Women’s shoes run from size 35 to 42 and men’s go from 43 to 46. You can read all about it right here.

    Jonathan Adler Fall Warehouse Sale
Lifestyle guru, Jonathan Adler is moving and the merchandise must go. We are told that these will be the lowest prices ever and the examples we got are amazing. A Herringbone rug will be $300 from nearly $2800, a salad bowl will be $40 from $150 and the Channing desk will be $700 from almost $2000. This is a sale we suggest you don’t miss if you’re planning on decorating or face lifting your decor.
Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27
    9am-2pm daily
885 E. 138th Street (NE corner of 138th and Walnut Avenue), Bronx

    The Row
We can’t count on Céline for refined female elegance, which leaves The Row as one of the few brands catering to women who desire excellent quality coupled with a refined silhouette. At last season’s sample sale the discount breakdown went something like this; Ready to wear was 70% off, bags and shoes were discounted 60%, fur was 40% off and exotics were 50% off. We anticipate that additional discounts will occur during the final days. Read up on past sales and stay tuned. We will post here and on Instagram as we receive more details.

    Bogner Warehouse & Sample Sale

It feels like Summer was just yesterday but that means that ski season is just a moment away. We usually don’t get the opportunity to shop sales before the season but Bogner is giving us an amazing opportunity to get ready for those alpine trails.

Bogner is really one of the best resources for fashionable and functional ski-gear and cold weather accessories. We are told that merchandise will be reduced up to 75% off retail. The selection will include ski and golf apparel, Winter boots, Summer shoes, helmets, and fur-trimmed accessories. (You can see pictures from inside the sale right here.)

You should take advantage of these discounts before the season is in full swing and the assortment is plentiful. You know if you don’t, you will regret it when you’re packing to go out West.

    MatchesFashion New Big Markdowns

It’s hard to keep up with the markdown schedule of many European online sites. Many times, analytics, inventory volumes, and shopping data determine when markdowns are taken. It could be hard to keep track, especially when top designers prefer if deep discounts are kept quiet.

That’s why we were so surprised by what we currently found on MatchesFashion. Over this way, we found a double-breasted wool coat trimmed with aqua fur from Saks Potts for $550 from over $1500. It will be perfect to wear in just a few weeks. Same goes for these shearling lined boots that are $442 from $1475. They come in navy too. This Vetements dress is now 70% off but is still a bit pricey at $570, considering it’s just a sweatshirt. The standard Vetements hoodie is nearing normality at $279. That’s with the 70% markdown! Same goes for these Balenciaga hotel slides that are $260.

Among the most highly reduced items are these leopard print boots that are just $212 from $709, an Attico dress with an oversized hounds-tooth print is $535 from $1785 and an Alexander McQueen silk pajama top with a heart print is $288 from $960.

If you’re not already a customer, you can receive an additional 10% off using the code MFNEW. Just a warning, it’s addictive! Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Early Access: Shopbop Spend & Save 25%

For a long time department stores have been luring shoppers in with gift cards as shopping incentives. We’d prefer a straight discount over a gift card that expires and luring you to spend more than it’s face value.

Through Saturday, Shopbop is offering a shopping discount incentive that increases to 25% off. Just use the code STOCKUP18 at checkout. The promotion isn’t public yet, so make sure to use this link to access the sale.

Right now, you can save 20% off on orders under $500 or save 25% off if you spend even more. Some of the items that caught our eye are this Temperley London gold dress, this Preen sequined dress is shockingly beautiful and this Mira Mikati tracksuit jacket is catchy. We are even a little tempted to try these Agolde pinch wasted jeans. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to snag this season’s hightest item: cowboy boots.

Circle bags are making a big statement this season and we feel a gravitational pull towards the styles offered by Avec le Troupe and it’s just $400. Beaded bags are also a huge trend for fall and this style from Shrimps is leading the pack. (We might have to dive into this trend a little more deeply!)

You can also use the discount on sale items. This ‘Best Day Ever’ sweatshirt from Anya Hindmarch will come to about $230 from $500, this Courreges fuschia trench is $750 from $3300.

The Shopbop promotion only runs through Saturday. It’s times like this that we wish that Shopbop carried Fendi too!

    Bloomingdales Friends & Family Presale

The Bloomingdales friends and family sale will officially begin Friday online. Shoppers can save 25% with the code FRIENDS. Those looking for an in-store Bloomingdales experience can begin to presale now.

In the past, the exclusions haven’t been too extensive. Designer collections, beauty, and fragrance are never included in the promotion. Although the discount can’t be applied to beauty purchases there will be a gift with purchase incentive.

Bloomingdales can be frustrating to shop. We’ve become a big fan of the “In-Store Pickup” service. Shop online and retrieve everything from the customer service department on the 3rd floor. Once you get there, you can try everything on and just take the items you like.

We love this rainbow sequined camisole ($58) to wear under a blazer or jacket, this Aqua packable puffer is just $88 and has a super 70s retro feel. We have been secretly yearning for a Strutterheim raincoat ($295)– they are the old-fashioned totally waterproof type that lasts forever. The discount can also be applied to sale items. These Gucci Mary Janes will come to $500 from $1250 and this Maje leather jacket will about $300.

The friends and family promotion runs through Monday, October 8. We suggest that you shop during this markdown. The next sale with similar discounts won’t be until Black Friday.

    StyleBop Discounts Hit 80% Off

StyleBop is offering a deal that might be hard to refuse. A selection of sale merchandise that is already discounted 70% off is now an extra 20% off. The special promotion runs through Monday and the total savings are upwards of 80% on some items.

We were actually very surprised about how many great items we found. Check out this Delpozo silk gown that’s about $800 from $3235. It’s such a vibrant print and fabulously chic. Here is an Alyx Studio silver blouse that looks horrible in this photograph but will be really great when paired with the right bottom and it’s just $220 from $910. Over this way, a Marc Jacobs red crepe dress is $180 from $735 and a coat from Maison Margiela is $725 from $900.

The extra discount promotion extends beyond the most reduced sale merchandise and can be applied to almost all sale items. (We just like to target the best deals, of course.) Balenciaga tweed ankle boots are already rescued 40% and Marni cognac boots will have you on point through the next season.

As far as sales go, StyleBop’s selection seems to be pretty on point. There is even an assortment of sizes still available. Seems like a good opportunity to pick up something extra nice before Winter shopping officially begins.

Coming Soon: David Yurman Sample Sale

The sample sale that you have been waiting for is for is finally here. David Yurman will be hosting his semi-annual sample sale starting October 11. Discounts normally range from 30% to 60% off retail and 10% of all proceeds on the first day of the sale will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

At David Yurman’s last sale, we scoped out a line that almost spanned the full avenue. Shoppers waited hours before gaining entrance.  Cable bracelets were reduced 30% off and other styles were discounted by 50%. Rings and necklaces were 50% off and watches and pendants were reduced by 60%.

Prices at this sale aren’t precisely a steal. This is a good option for discount shoppers considering how David Yurman jewelry retains its value and how it’s become increasingly difficult to find the designer’s jewelry at outlets or discount stores.

There are additional markdowns taken throughout the sale. If you don’t mind a wait, we suggest attending the sale early to get the best selection. Alternatively, we found some discount Yurman you can start shopping now.

    David Yurman Sample Sale
Thursday, October 11th through Sunday, October 14th
    Thurs 3pm–8, Fri & Sat 10am–7pm, Sun 11am–5pm
The Altman Building, 135 West 18th Street

    The It-it: Micro-Pleated Midi Skirts

Fashion week, or month, is in full motion. As we dive into one collection to another we have been struck by the abundance of micro pleated midi-skirts. As Fall approaches, the longer skirts seem almost irresistible.

Sally LaPointe, Gabriela Hearst, and Ulla Johnson are just a few designers that feel head-over-pleat for Summer ’19. On the runway, we saw these tiny pleats shown as monochromatic ensembles. The long line of just one color appears is slimming, clean and classic. The impact is really felt when a bright color like fuschia or red is used. To add a more casual vibe, pair your midi-skirt with a logo tee or oversized sweatshirt and low cowboy boots.
